  3. Oh Froggie, been there done that. I have diverticulitus too and my colon actually perferated. Talk about painful. They told me the pain is worse than having a baby: They were right! I have had to many colonoscopies to count.
  4. Talk to your doctor about a restaurant card. I just asked my doctor for one and he is sending it to me. He also reminded me to stay away from the "greasy restaurant food", though. Sometimes that can be difficult. Everyone have fun on your trips and good luck!

  6. Try applesauce or sugar free pudding too. Good luck!
  7. More protein! we are supposed to be taking in at least 60+ gs of it daily. I have a friend who is always telling me (she's been banded for 1yr 4mos) eat your protein so your hair doesn't fall out. I'm only out 6 weeks since surgery and am not having that problem yet (so far). Trying to pack in that protein though. Good Luck!!
  8. I was also told to not EVER eat popcorn. Getting stuck is something that is a truly miserable feeling. Although a vitamin got stuck for me I am now afraid to eat breads, pastas, and rice along with the popcorn. These things stick together and form a ball that may get stuck in the band. Since we need the extra calcium I have taken to having some yogurt or some milk. That seems to help me. Good luck!
  9. I had the slimies. I had taken a vitamin and it got stuck. After about 2 hours I started throwing up about every 5-10 minutes. Nothing but slime. That went on for about 2 hours and I finally went to the emergency room. On the way there I got this horrible pain in my chest and belched, I actually felt the vitamin get unstuck. I went to the ER anyway and got checked by several docs just to make sure. Make sure you chew your food really, really well and try to eat slowly. I am still having trouble with that last part. Good luck!
  10. I had my first fill on Tuesday. He put in 1cc and had me drink some water. If you have ever had anything "stuck" that is what it felt like. He removed about a 1/2cc I drank more water and if felt much better. He said that I am a "slow goer". I am eating like when I first got banded, whew, what a relief! Good luck all!!
  11. Hang in there. I got a little discouraged along the way because it was taking so long. When I finally met with the medical doc, she told me that if I had lost more weight at that point she would have scheduled me for the first available surgery date. Talk about disappointed! That also gave me the extra boost to lose the weight (20lbs) in a hurry. I lost it in a month! Didn't think I could do it. Try not to get to discouraged, like I said it is worth the weight.
  12. I went through Kaiser. You have to go to an orientation class and there they will give information on both bypass and band surgeries. It is a very long process. I went to orientation in August of 07 and was finally banded in may 08. One thing to do is start losing weight right away. The sooner you do the sooner you will have your surgery. I had Dr. Le in South San Francisco. The staff is great and they are very helpful. These classes are mandatory and are very informative. Per Kaiser: if you miss any of your classes you have to reschedule them and attend them prior to having your surgery. People complain about having to do all the things they want prior to surgery, like having to lose 10% of your initial weight, this is done to help prep your internal organs for surgery. Right now they are covered in a layer of fat and that needs to come off so it is easier to get to your stomach. Do what they tell you and you will be fine. Good Luck! It is well worth the wait!
  13. I was banded on May 5, 08 and have lost about 30 lbs. I go for my first fill on 6/24 and can't wait since I keep getting hungary. Can't wait to not be hungary. I had my surgery done in San Fransico. I have to say it was not a bad experience. I am on liquid vitamins and chewables since I have had incidents of pills getting stuck. Not a pleasant experience. Good luck to everyone.
