I am 4 months post op, and pretty lucky in that things seem to have gone quite well so far. Something I've noticed in the last month or so though is how hungry I feel at night, and sometimes I feel like I really need to eat before I go to sleep, which is usually about 4 hours after my last meal. I often wake up feeling the same. Right now I am awake at midnight, not being able to sleep and and feeling like I need to eat. I don't think it is head hunger because I don't actually want to eat, it's more like a sensation of emptiness. Has anyone else had this? Am I actually hungry?! I am consuming around 500-900 calories a day. Pre op I was told I was prediabetes, so I wonder if my blood sugar might have something to do with it. Maybe I need to spread my meals out a bit more? Any ideas appreciated.

The esults of the biopsy during the scope last Friday showed there are a few h. pylori critters nesting in my stomach (“several” specifically). ☹️ I have not had any GI symptoms other than some minor increased gas in the last several weeks and there were no ulcers found.

I would love to know your experience if you had the same happen to you. My Gastro ordered the 3 usual meds - amoxicillin, claritbromycin, and Protonix (although I do not yet know how many days it’s for, it could be 7, 10, or 14).
    1. How many days were you prescribed the medications?
    2. Did they get rid of the bacteria?
    3. Did you feel rotten or was it not that big a deal?
    4. How did your Bariatric surgeon react/or what did he/she say about it?
    5. Did it delay your surgery? Were you required to retest?
i would so appreciate any info you can offer. I have been busting my butt to get everything done as fast as I could because some travel pre-paid may put me in a surgical squeeze play! But now I am worried this bacteria will slow me down ( I was told that they could fast track me once I got 3 dietician visits (weight loss) completed, the scope / biopsy done, and the psych evaluation (the last two are now complete).
    THANKS 🤗

I am in the getting close to my bariatric surgery! I am feeling excited, nervous! I just have so many feelings I can’t describe.
So here is my story… my surgery will be in December and although some might think it is the worse time to get it done because of all the food and Festivities that are happening around that time, I see it as the perfect time because during the holiday seasons it is when I see everything so nice, warm and I am truly happy, with all the festivities. I start being thankful starting with Thanksgiving, on Christmas the same I count my blessings and on New Year’s I take inventory of all of my family and my successes always hopeful for the New Year that awaits! Life cannot be any more perfect…… but the reality is that it can be! If I would just lose my damn weight! That is why this is the perfect time because of New Year I always see it as a time to let go of the old and in with the new! This time it will be a New me!
Other feelings I have are of letting my family down and myself for not having the willpower, not being able to do it on my own, and now left to having to do this surgery as my last resort. it is overwhelmingly exciting and nerve wrecking as I first noted. At the moment I feel that I am ready, but am I? That is why I am here in this bariatric group website I want to see others success story. I want to make online friends with others who have success stories and weight issues same as me, that I can relate. I also want to finally get the backbone I need to go through with this life changing surgery, as I have heard and seen from others. I am hoping I can also be motivation and help others I plan to make it a life goal to help others who have the same exact fears as I do, to make them feel more at ease because as far as the way I feel right now I get adrenaline rush just the thought because I do want to do this surgery because entering 2021 I want to be able to welcome the new me.
I don’t have many friends I can talk to regarding my fat issues because it is so very personal and I don’t know how confidential it would be. Plus I been threw a lot of fat shaming done by people I know and I always want to be seen as strong and unaffected but I am very much affected. If there is another reason to get this surgery done other than the many amazing health benefits and longevity, and having a complete circle as far as my happiness, it is to shut all the haters and fat shamers up. The number one reason still remains always Definitely my family, myself above all!

Medically, coffee with no creamers/milk/etc is on a clear liquid diet. However, as others have said, during the bariatric process the caffeine is the issue.
As all doctors seem to have their own dietary recommendations, please consult your surgeon's office for their dietary guidelines.

I wasn't "prescribed" coffee by my surgeon until six months after my surgery. I missed it but stuck with his guidance.

I was allowed only caffeine free coffee for the preop diet and the first 3 months after surgery. I just have it up because I don't think caffeine free tastes right. I just passed 3 months and I'm so happy to have my coffee back! [emoji23]

in addition to holding off on it immediately after surgery (I actually had to wait six months - but some surgeons are OK with you having it sooner), no, I could not have it during my pre-op diet. I was supposed to be off of all caffeine a couple of weeks before surgery. Although maybe your surgeon is of a different opinion. I'd ask...

According to ASMBS guidelines, “Q: Do I need to avoid caffeine after bariatric surgery? A: Caffeine fluids have been shown to be as good as any others for keeping you hydrated. Still, it is a good idea to avoid caffeine for at least the first thirty days after surgery while your stomach is extra sensitive. After that point, you can ask your surgeon or dietitian about resuming caffeine. Remember that caffeine often comes paired with sugary, high-calorie drinks, so be sure you’re making wise beverage choices.”

Sherry McKenzie Surgery was almost 10 years ago. In the past year and a half, I've developed problems no one can answer. My bariatric surgeon no longer has the practice, so I'm not being followed by anyone unless a problem arises, then its my family practice who refers me out to various specialists who find nothing wrong. My issues are as follows: nausea daily sometimes more than once per day with or without food. Sometimes eating makes it worse. No appetite. Thought of eating makes me ill some days. Vomiting once in a while. Dizziness, ready to faint. Sweaty, like cold then hot flashes. Heart palpitations. Irritability. Fatigue. Female hormones and thyroid all check out ok. GI did upper GI no problems there. Blood work showed I'm very hypoglycemic. Given nausea meds but I'm tired of taking it twice a day. I eat Snacks every 2-3 hrs. if I can. Meal time: just a few bites and I'm full. I've cut out specific foods and methods of cooking. It helped a little but still have issues. I'm at a loss. Per a nurse friend, I did some research, that indicated maybe I'm missing gastric enzymes needed to digest specific foods. Found your website for support and another that indicates my problems are not uncommon several years after gastric bypass. Recommendations and support is what I seek. Thank you.

I am not exactly a picky eater, except when it comes to texture and how food looks. There is no way EVER I could puree meat or chicken salad or whatever and eat it. I got through the pureed stage by having things that are already pureed, like applesauce and pudding. I never pureed any food. I wouldn't have been able to stomach it.
