  1. When I first told my sons that I wanted the band I was shocked at their reaction. After years of begging me to lose weight they acted as if I was doing something terrible. They showed me every negative thing that was written about the band. I showed them everything positive. Now after 4 months and 64 lbs lost they couldn't be happier!! I think most people have to learn about the positive side before they can be happy for us. My kids are now my biggest supporters! Do what you feel is right for you and don't listen to others. Good luck.
  2. I could not feel my port until I lost about 50 lbs. Now I can. I didnt have any trouble with the fill however.
  3. I am a patient of Dr liu. First my insurance came back with the six month diet request but I fought it. The office sent a letter saying it was medically necessary and I wrote a long letter outlining my years and years of struggle. I also had been on and off Jenny Craig for years so I got a copy of the last 2 years of notes and included them. My insurance company, Horizon BC BS of NJ then approved me. By the way I sing Dr Liu's praises every day. I felt very little discomfort after surgery and it looks like my first fill hit my sweet spot! They say that is unusual but I am doing great! Good Luck and I hope it works out for you!
  4. I love this page! Congrates to all. I am down 63 lbs since Aug and loving my band.
  5. I was just diagnosed a month before my surgery. The doctor wanted me to try to control it with food so I didnt start meds at that time. When I went back to my doctor last month he couldnt get over how great my labs were! He said everything was normal, sugar & cholesterol! I feel great and love my band!
  6. I actually use this product sometimes. I mix it in a blender with skim milk and a cup and a half of frozen strawberries also a couple of sweetnlows. It comes to 280 calaries and I think it taste great. It stops my cravings for sweets. I also use the bariatric advantage shake the same way. It is more calories but has vitiamins in it too. I like it in the morning when I am feeling tight and I dont feel hungry for 4 hours. Of course you could put in any fruit you like. The frozen ones make it thicker like a milk shake. I hope this works for you.
  7. I had a problem with protein too. Since I am tight in the morning I have a protein shake. I love to mix vanilla with skim milk and frozen strawberries in a blender. That gives me 25 grams first thing in the morning. I use the Bariatric Advantage because it has vitamins fats and carbs. Oh yea I add a couple sweet'n'lows to it too.
  8. YES, YES, YES, I am 58 and was banded in August. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I joined a gym in October and have never been in this good of shape in my life! I love the band and how I feel! Best of luck on your journey to good health!
  9. Just wanted to say congrates on your fantastic weight loss in less than a year!!!
  10. Keep in mind that not eating enough slows down your metabolism. What you ate today does not sound like it is enough. You should have 3 meals a day. My dr also recommends a light snack like a small piece of fruit or a string cheese. Remember follow the rules, protein first, veggies, then fruit. I also use a protein shake once a day to get my protein in. You need at a minimum 60 grams per day. I use dailyplate.com to keep track of what I eat. I also have kicked up my exercise and that has really helped melt the pounds. Good luck and don't give up!
  11. YES YES YES I AM HAPPIER!! Food no longer dictates my every thought. I am not craving junk any more. I eat to live. I enjoy what I eat but for some reason am turned off by the bad stuff. I was very fortunate that my first fill hit my sweet spot. I was absolutely miserable ate 250. I couldnt get off the couch with out a strain. I couldnt walk to the mail box without feeling like I was going to die. Now I can do 60 minutes of aerobics and feel energized. I only got sick once and that was because I didn't follow the rules and eat much more after my body told me to stop. I love the band and can't sing its praises enough. Good luck to you on you journey.
  12. Boy do I know what you mean BUT we have to do it! I joined a gym about a month ago and honestly I have to drag myself there. ONce I am there I just force myself to start. Once I start moving I am fine! I love how I feel afterwards, I feel like I accomplished a lot! But the next day I have to go through it again. The good thing about it is it sure makes the scale move quicker! I lost 14 lbs in one month because of it! I remind myself of that as I am driving there. It does give you more energy but that takes a couple weeks to kick in. Good luck and start moving you will feel better!
  13. When your doctor tells you it is okay.I was 2 weeks on liquids and 2 weeks on mushies. Remember you are healing and should not push it beyond what the doctor tells you. When I went to solids he had me start out with very small amounts and then slowly moved up. I had no pain. Good luck.
  14. You will do great! Oh I dont think we answered you regarding additional surgery. I know some people have tummy tucks etc once all the weight is gone, I'm too old to worry about that unless I hit the lotto! Every one is different when it comes to how much their skin sags.
  15. I would suggest a fill as soon as you can. Start from the beginning. You know the rules. But if you gained 30 lbs sounds like you need that fill to put you back on track. Best of luck.
  16. Good luck! I am sure you will do it. Try to exercise more. Since I started going the gym 5-6 times a week my weight loss has picked up.
  17. I haven't told too many people because of the negative remarks I have gotten. For me being banded is the best thing I have ever done for myself! NO, you don't feel sick every time you eat! However if you don't follow the rules like chew chew chew and stop eating when you are no longer hungry you can have problems. I got sick only once. I was out to dinner and just kept eating even though I knew I was full. It just tasted too good. Well I paid for that big time! I will never do that again. Good luck and do what you need to do for yourself!
  18. Welcome and best of luck on your journey!
  19. 49! Feel great! Surgery was 8/22/08 and I have had one fill and really don't think I need another yet. For the first time in my life I am going to the gym and loving it! Because of family traveling problems we had our Thanksgiving dinner Saturday. I did great and have a house full of leftovers and I am not tempted! I LOVE MY BAND!
  20. GET OVER IT PEOPLE! The country has spoken. Yep we are going back to the socialist tax plan that we had under Pres. Clinton. You may remember that time, when the economy was good and China didn't own us !! I had to get over it when the country voted Bush a second term. Now it is your turn.
  21. My doctor didnt allow straws only for the first 6 weeks after surgery. I now use them everyday without problems. This shake sounds fantastic!
  22. Unfortunately I have a family member who is a child abuser. I wanted him put away for life but it didn't happen. I am no more responsible for his actions than Obama is for his family members or McCain is for his idiot brother who calls 911 when he is stuck in traffic.
  23. You have to do it for YOU. If you are not really committed to it you will fail. You can learn to eat around it if you don't follow the rules. It is a great tool and the best thing I ever did for myself but if you are against it then don't do it. I suggest you spend a lot of time researching it. Read the pre and post surgery posts. Learn all about it. YOU must decide for yourself and not look for others to talk you into it. Good luck on your journey.
  24. Boy my dad was right one should never talk about politics or religion. Nothing can get the blood boiling than an opinion that is different from ones own.
  25. YES it is worth it. I have to say my surgery was not bad at all. I had very little pain, in fact I have had more from this tooth that was worked on last week. The darn thing still hurts! Everyone is different but I am sure I would feel this way even if I had not had it so easy. I have lost 43 lbs and feel great. I have had only one fill and I think the doctor got it right on the first try! I just canceled my appointment for my second which was scheduled for 11/5. I no longer spend my day thinking about food. I love my band. Good luck and let us know how you do!
