  1. I do not have one pair of shoes that fit properly! I have no idea what my real shoe size is! I actually think I might have a narrow width... It is hard to find them in a store to try on. But shopping in the "normal" section is a wonderful experience!
  2. I started at 250 - size 22-24 Now 133 size 8 Funny how we can weigh the same but take different sizes.
  3. Head hunger is really the challenge. The band is a tool but we all can find ways around it. Even after a year I have to fight the "head". I have always been a stress eater. I find exercise helps a lot. I am at the gym 6 days a week. Once I work out I do not want to ruin the calorie burn by eating crap. Yoga also helps. Get your fill and dont give up.

    first day at gym

That is fantastic! I started 2 months after I was banded and it just helped melt the weight. I never thought I would say I love working out but now I feel like a slug if I miss more than one day a week! Good luck on your journey!

    Anniversary Challenge

August 22 was my one year anniversary! I have reached my weight loss goal and my weight is around 135-133! I feel fantastic. I exercise 6 days a week and have never been in this healthy in my life. I am hoping that even at my age (59) some day I can teach cycle spin class and yoga. I love my band and my new body!!
  6. I do weigh myself every morning when I am empty. I find that scales are not nice creatures! I can move mine an inch or so and get a weight 1/2 more or less than the first time I got on it. So I went out and bought a second scale and pretty much the same things happen. I have a weight watchers and a biggest loser scale. They never agree with each other! If anyone has a good scale I would love to know the brand.

    Help me please!!!!

Just call your doctor and tell him. I really doubt the little you ate makes that much difference. You must however, follow the pre-op prep from now on. It could cause problems if you don't. Good luck. I think you will be fine.
  9. It seems everyone is different and so are their doctors. All the things you mentioned were off limits for a while but then I was able to add things back, in moderation of course. Different foods bother people. I don't eat bread but I know it bothers a lot of people. Dry chicken can be a problem for me as well as soy beans. I eat a bag of 100 calorie popcorn every night and a lot of apples with skins (chew chew chew) with no problems. I also eat shrimp every so often. I know many of us eat nuts. I do not eat fried foods and really think it is a good idea to give them up. I have had a problem with celery but I know I didn't chew it well enough. I think it is a good idea to listen to your doctor then after several months you can see what bothers you. A word of caution, getting stuck is no fun! Chew chew chew. Good luck on your journey
  10. Hi, sorry it took so long for me to answer you. Good luck on your journey! I wish I could tell you I did something special but I just followed the doctors rules. Honestly I think the band adjusted my head too! The way I look at food has changed. Suddenly I Want to eat healthy. Before the band I didnt care. I do work out 5 days a week. It took me 6 months before I could say I enjoy it. Now I take several classes and love it! Let me know how you are doing. Best of luck - Diane

    Protein and -- Sleeplessness?!

I doubt it but everyone is different. All I wanted to do on the preop diet was sleep! Maybe you are a little anxious about the surgery. When in doubt bring it to your doctors attention. Good luck on your journey.
  12. Go slow and dont pick up anything heavy for a couple weeks. When in doubt check with the Doc. Good luck on your journey.
  13. Yes, I use the chewable vitamins and the protein drinks. I mix the vanilla with frozen strawberries and sweetnlow in a blender. LOve it! If I am out of the chewable I put Andrew Lessmans vitamin capsules in my drink but have to add more sweetnlow so I dont taste them.

    death?

I agree with the others, as with any surgery there are risks but it my case being 250 lbs with very high blood pressure, type II diabetes was much more risky than the surgery. I was on 5 different medications and felt terrible. Now I am not on any and feel great. Obesity does carry a lot more risks.

    IN need of Help

How about a PCP if not your surgeon?? You could be deficient in various nutrients or just maybe sick ( hope not) Just go to a regular doctor. Tell him/her you don't feel well and mention the band. Good luck...by the way you should be able to talk to your surgeon by phone too.

    Getting the blues

If I understand you correctly you have lost 13 lbs in 3.5 weeks? That is and average of 3.7 lbs a week. That is fantastic!! Hang in there! You are on the right track!
  18. Lost another pound. Almost there!
  19. Congratulations! Best wishes for a life full of joy, love & laughter for you and yours!
  20. Yea, I have my share of sagging skin but I will take it any day to the way I looked at 250 lbs or the diabetes, high blood pressure and acid reflex I had! I don't think my insurance company will pay for any other surgery but feeling great and looking great is well worth hiding that sagging skin under spanx! Good luck on your journey.
  21. (knock knock almost 60 yr old here...) I didn't start till I had lost about 30 lbs and had some more energy. Of course if you can start walking now that would be great I joined a gym and started slowly with the treadmill and light weights. I then added the elliptical ( could only do 3 minutes the first time) Little by little I added more time and resistance to my work out. I now work out 6 days a week for 2 hours. I do take weight classes and yoga. I still find it hard to believe I actually have some muscle! Good luck and remember take it at your own pace. Good luck.

    Bariatric Advantage ?

I use BA and Unjury. I like them both. BA has vitamins and carbs. For lunch I mix the vanilla of one or the other) with 2 cups of frozen strawberries and sweet'n low and skim milk n a blender. It taste like a milk shake to me. It with BA it comes to 320 calories and with Unjury it is 280. It does stop me from craving bad things. I have also used the chocolate of both with skim milk and sugar fee carmel syrup and ice in a blender ( sometimes I add instant de-caff coffee graduals to it) BA is 220 and Unjury is 180.
  23. Bill, i have been asking my self the same question should I get a fill. I am almost at goal but I am getting hungry every 3 hours. I am trying to hold out to see if adding maintenance calories will help. I do work out a lot and that could be the reason for the hunger. I am trying to give it another 3 weeks to see what I feel like at goal. If adding calories does not work I will get one. ( I have only had 2 fills in total) Good luck and congrats on your success!

    Big Sigh

It could be affected by something as simple as what you just had to drink. Weigh yourself in the morning before you eat and after you go potty. If you still are not losing log your food. You should also start increasing your exercise little by little each day. Don't get me wrong it is great that you are walking but increased cardio will help you lose fat. Above all do not give up! Keep plugging and you will be fine. Best of luck.
  25. If you read through this site you will find some horror stories but the majority of us have had great success and are happy we had the surgery. Yes, it works but it is not a magic cure. You have to do the work. Follow your doctor's orders. You will find that many doctors have different opinions and restrictions. This is a tool that will help you feel full and start a healthy life style. As you read you will find you can eat around the band ( ice cream candy etc) that will go through easily. That is a challenge for some people. The answer to Coke, ( I assume you mean the drink  varies. Now if you are talking sugar soda you should never drink it again. As for other carbonated drinks some doctors say yes after 6 months, like mine did, some say never. It can make you very gassy. I had a big diet soda habit before surgery. After giving it up for 6 months I find I do not crave it. While I will have some once in a great while I find I can not drink canned or bottled because of the gas, however, fountain soda does not bother me. Everyone is different and so are their doctors. For me it was the best thing I have ever done! I wish you much luck and great success on your journey!
