billho got a reaction from GradyCat in How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
I weigh every morning. I have a Renpho scale and I like to see the trend lines, even if it goes up and down a little between lows. I've noticed a pattern that right after I hit a new low, it bounces up a half pound or so for a few days until I settle back to the lower number.

I lost 18 pounds in my first month. Sounds like you're right on track.

billho got a reaction from danahall5885 in What to tell work during co-vid??
I didn't tell my work anything. I took 4 vacation days and didn't offer any other details. I was super tired for a few weeks, but was able to hide it since I'm working from home until travel is opened back up. The good thing is that I was already starting to increase my exercise program and focusing on diet before my procedure, so now that I have lost weight (and it is now obvious on zoom calls), I don't think anybody suspects anything. I'm not going to hide it if anybody asks point-blank, but I don't feel it is information that I need to broadcast.

I think the key point is this is a one-time thing and if I make a habit of it, I'm going to be right back where I started.

That happened to me last week. I am usually very strict about my diet, but last Friday night, I got a bag of tortilla chips and ate way too many over a few hours and felt like crap afterward. I weighed the next morning, expecting to see the number be a few lbs. higher, but lo and behold, I dropped like 3 lbs. Go figure.

I can only speak for me, and you have to decide what is best for you. For me, no way. The decision to get WLS was very personal and involves addressing some difficult stuff and embracing the failures of trying to manage my weight on my own. There are a lot of "friends" that are super fit and would never understand what it is like to walk in my shoes.
Then again, I almost never post anything personal on social media,... my wife, however, if she went through this, she'd post every detail. Fortunately, she honored my request to not mention this about me with her "friends".
If you want to put it all out there, you may want to be prepared for some negativity or unsolicited advice.

billho got a reaction from Zom B in Clothes during Weight Loss
I have kept most of my old clothes over the years and many different sizes, so I still have some things I can wear, even after losing 59 lbs. I did break down last week and bought some workout gear on Walmart.com, since I'm working from home and sweats are my daily uniform. I'm wearing XL shirts now and simply refuse to grab the XXL shirts, even if I only have a few to choose from.

I broke the three-week stall. I tried to stay positive, but I'll admit, I was concerned. I weighed in a few weeks ago at 230, then 228 (yes, I weigh every day), and it went back up. I was back to 232ish and it stuck there for about a week. That was frustrating. I'll admit that this coincided with me pushing my limits as I tried to introduce more normal foods into my diet. I am happy to report the past three days, the scale has started moving again and I hit 224.8 (HW 284) this morning. I'm happy with where I am so far and feel like I'm heading in the right direction. I am also thankful for the advice on this forum, so when I hit the stall, I was more patient than I otherwise would be, since I knew what to expect.

I told my wife and kids and one friend. I also told my two brothers and mom and dad. And I asked them all to not tell others until I decide I want that information out there. That's all. I didn't feel the need to hide it but also don't feel the need to broadcast what I'm doing to others. The good thing about the lockdown we are in is that I don't have to see people on a regular basis, so nobody is asking. I may choose to tell people later on, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I still need to learn how to get out the right portions. Even now, I scoop out the smallest amount I think is reasonable (a fraction of what I used to), and I still can only eat a few bites. My dog has learned to stay by my side when I am eating because it is a good chance she's going to get a nice snack.

Good question. All that I have been told I can take is Tylenol, which isn't really good enough. I am particularly interested in finding something better since I fell about 8 ft. through a shed roof over the weekend (long story...) and I am pretty sore.

I'm doing fine (surgery on 9/21). Down 19 since surgery and 56 total, so feeling good about my progress. I have been pushing a bit too fast with eating foods I probably shouldn't, but my body lets me know right away. If I stick to the plan, I feel OK, other than being tired a lot. I'm over halfway to my goal, so I'm anxious to get there.
