Oh my gosh! I'm not kidding. I've read it a 100x the pain you will be in if you eat too fast or too much.
I'm extremely positive and have been so blessed with zero complications. So understand me when I say DO NOT EAT TOO FAST and STOP EATING NO MATTER WHAT if you are full. I
In my case, I'm in Phase 3 which for me is soft foods. I can barely get through my two ounces of Protein. And forget about the 1/4 cup of veggies. I'm thrilled. I'm NOT complaining because this is good and what I want (duh). I'm just warning you if you're even thinking about pushing yourself to eat what you're supposed to eat a certain amount, but can't just STOP. Just keep your logs and tell your doctor or nutritionist if it's too a major pattern.
Just now, I didn't even push myself. Out of habit from my previous ways of eating I lost my ever loving mind for 2 seconds and just stuffed in a full bite. Wow! Our brains are so tricky. In recovery, I once heard someone say our brains have good forgetters. Lol. They sure do. In a split second decision you can bring a world of hurt to your life in many ways.
    Lots of love you guys!

I think it's all about moderation. I bought Decaf and at my first post follow up, I mentioned that the decaf wasn't doing it for me. My surgeon asked how much coffee I drank and I said one large cup each morning and that's it. He said it would be fine. I stopped using Creamer and started using Premier Protein Caramel or Fairlife vanilla plus collagen Protein, so it's a protein bomb too!

I'm doing the same. I literally cry for no reason now and I have never been one to cry. I keep hearing what others have said about hormones. I also know that weight loss has been an enormous gift that I would never trade. And the incredibly positive mental changes I have gone through have been unreal, too. Like, just yesterday I got together with an old friend, but we are on two COMPLETELY different levels now. I had made plans for next weekend, but today I had to cancel. I just feel like I'd be going backwards. I have therapy tomorrow. I also suggest you get a therapist. The changes are a lot to handle. I once heard that stress isn't always when bad things happen. Your body experiences stress even when good things happen. Any change. Hope you get some relief.

Not sure if it’s the surgery , time of year with holidays or COVID-19 . I’m angry and just a stewing pot ready to boil over. I am passive aggressive with my husband, and short with the kids. I’m overwhelmed by the anger, I spent hours away from home with the kids last night because I didn’t want to see my husband. The kids had a great time, and I was relaxed. MAybe the break from the daily Routine was what I needed. I haven’t been sleeping well, And I work full time, we are short staffed, the weather has been cold so I’m not out walking as much as I should.
he is a stay at home dad and doesn’t socialize with people beside me and a few others. I try guideline him to places where he could engage with others. I try to encourage him, and he seems happy being at home. I enjoy having him at home to help with the kids , picking them up and so forth.... what is wrong with me..... I don’t know. TIA

So, your fat stores estrogen and when you lose massive amounts of fat in a short period of time your body dumps a massive amount of estrogen into your system. This often causes depression or mood swings. This is a known side-effect of WLS. You may be experiencing something related to this. Talk to your doctor about it. You may need medication to help, temporarily. Good luck.

sizemedown reacted to Soon2BMiniMommy in Metformin
I also have been on Metformin for years for insulin resistance/prediabetes secondary to severe PCOS. Both my surgeon AND my PCP say I can go off of it as soon as I have surgery as my body will be in a catabolic state (weight loss) and my body will naturally lower my insulin levels while losing weight, even more so over time. They both say it's almost immediate.
Note that I am on 1000 mg, twice a day, the maximum dose as there have been many, many studies done that state the maximum dose it's what's needed for PCOS/insulin resistance and anything lower than that really doesn't do much of anything. Metformin isn't really for weight loss....that's a huge misconception and most don't lose weight while on it, but it does help your body utilize the insulin it produces better, and therefore can minimize some of the side effects of hyperinsulemia (high insulin and insulin resistance). Metformin also allowed me to get pregnant after many years of infertility due to PCOS. But, honestly, if you have had the sleeve, you will lose much more weight from that than from taking Metformin....that would be like winning a million dollar lottery, then someone giving you a monthly allowance of $100 dollars - not enough to even make an impact in my opinion.
And yes, it will make you feel nauseous and often causes diarrhea....takes your body a while to get used to that.....but it will get better if you decide to take it.
Disclaimer here - I am NOT a doctor but have worked in health care for many, many years, specifically in endocrine disorders, so this is just my educated opinion. Many people think Metformin is a magic bullet to help them lose weight, but just as many are disappointed because they don't. Metformin does many things 'behind the scenes" that are beneficial to your body, but weight loss is really not one of them, and if it is, it's very minimal. For many, though, it does prevent them from gaining weight if their insulin resistance is severe. The sleeve will allow you to really lose weight.
    Hope that helps some....

sizemedown got a reaction from Pandemonium in New here, I am seriously considering weight loss surgery please help..
Hi sweetie! I have PCOS, too. I was diagnosed in 2002 and I only weighed around 220. I later ballooned up and had a BMI of like 60 I think. I tried tons of different things to lose weight for many years. I am not sure how to breakdown the last really hard 18 years. But I'm on oxygen 24/7. I had severe hypoxia and almost died from respiratory failure one day. All of this was a result from not staying on a cpap machine thinking I was cured from sleep apnea. Anyway, I later got diabetes. I was 404 pounds at my highest. So, in May of this year I made an appt. AGAIN to see another gastric surgeon. But this time I was pretty optimistic because I found out since I was on Medicare, they may cover the surgery. So I found a great surgeon online Dr. Chetan Patel here in Florida. He was so kind. Long story short I started working towards getting the surgery by meeting with the Nutritionist and I did everything she said. I started at 377, but I shed 47 pounds from May 22, 2020 to the day of surgery September 2, 2020. So I just had surgery like almost a month ago. I am so happy to say I had ZERO complications. Now....I've only lost 10 pounds since the surgery, BUT ask anyone on here there is a 3 week stall. It scared the crap out of me. But I am telling you all this because my Endocrinologist told me before the surgery that because I have PCOS I may need to go back on a little bit of Metformin. So, the last week I am back on 500 mg in AM and 500 mg in PM. And I have thyroid issues, too. Which in a month we will redo bloodwork to see if that needs to be adjusted. BUT LET ME TELL YOU. THIS IS THE BESTTTTTT decision I have ever made besides turning my life over to God. I feel amazing. I keep thinking. The mental changes just from having hope has changed my life. Girl. Do it. I have so much to say, but I eat like 600-850 calories a day. I get full easily. I do all the Vitamins every day. If I feel hungry pretty soon after eating it reminds me to drink my Water. I use the stopwatch on my phone all day long. You can't drink while eating and you need to 30 minutes between. I thought i would miss that, but my digestion problems totally stopped by doing that. And what a tiny trade off for a brand new life. I started college again 1 week out of surgery! Hello!!! Crazy wonderful life.

    Welcome to the forums.
Get rid of your scale. Your RNY doesn't need you to know your weight to work. You also won't be vexed by events of which you are currently vexed.
Personal anecdote: I was too large for any scale but my surgeons. Thus, I could only weigh at Doc's office. After months and months I was finally able to weigh at home. I did if a very few times just because I could, then I never weighed myself again, except at annual physicals.
Focus on your plan. Do your plan. It will work if you work it. [Cool cliche, huh?]
Good luck and enjoy the ride.

yep - sounds like the three week stall (which can really happen any time within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery). It happens to almost everyone. I wish clinics would warn their patients about this because it's EXTREMELY common, and people freak out about it when it happens if they aren't aware of this phenomenon beforehand. Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale for a few days, and know that it will end and you'll start losing weight again.

The three week stall is experienced by just about everyone but it can happen from week 2, 3 or 4 & can last 1-3 weeks. And you’ll experienced it again along this journey. Yes, it can really screw with your head. I thought of them as your body saying stop. what the hell are you doing to me or it taking a breath as it gets used to the changes you’re making (reduced food intake, changes to activity levels, the surgery, etc.).
Leave the scales alone for a few days. Did you take body measurements before your surgery? Sometimes you’ll see changes on a tape measure before you see them on the scales.
This is hard work. A lot of reflection, emotional ups & downs, changing habits & establishing new routines but it is sooooo worth it. Best decision I ever made. So many benefits. Keep a list of all your non scale victories a long the way to keep you motivated. Take photos of your shrinking body.
You’ll get through this & other hiccups along the way.

These are what they gave me after surgery and by far my favorite. My active teen boys fell in love with them, too. Unfortunately, our favorite is lemonade which has recently gone into backorder, but we’ve tried most of the other flavors and they are good, too. We add them to smoothies drink them straight and have even made ice cubes out is them.

i sent a request (and encourage everyone to, also) to the company to develop a powdered version which would be cheaper and more environmentally friendly so we aren’t shipping the liquid.

Thanks for this post. I am almost 3 weeks out and I haven't lost either. Saw my surgeon yesterday and he assured me that this happens a lot. But I did lose 47 pounds before the surgery so I was really confused. Anyway, he said that I have already physically changed and I have. It's weird. Anyway. I guess we just need to hang in there

if you are barely drinking Water than you can easily slide into dehydration. Your body is holding on to the small amount of water that you have in your body and sounds like your metabolism has temp slowed down. Drink more water to speed your metabolism up.

Stalls are a normal part of weight loss that just about everyone experiences (search this site for “three week stall” and you’ll see thousands of results). This won’t be the last time you stop seeing your scale move for a little while before starting up again.
in your case, though, I’m not sure I’d even call it a stall. This soon after WLS, you shouldn’t even be looking at the scale. Your body went through a lot during surgery and it has to adjust to the changes. While you were in the hospital, I’m sure they pumped you full of IV fluids, and that alone can cause weight gain. I actually weighed more at my one-week follow-up than I did right before surgery (my surgeon didn’t care — at that point, he was more interested in how I was healing from the surgery).
You should also be aware that since you’re starting at a relatively low BMI, your weight loss is likely to be slower than someone starting out 100 pounds higher than you, so don’t get discouraged by comparing your weight loss with anyone else’s. A lot of people only weigh themselves once a week so they don’t get freaked out by normal fluctuations or stalls, and you might want to consider that.

Hi. I started out at 203 lb. 5 ft 2
I had my vsg in 2010.
    Dropped weight way to fast.
Not by choice. Lowest weight was 110 lb. happy weight was 125-128.
I am sad to say I am now at 156. Not happy at all.
I blame myself and also my husband. Me mostly.. I feel right into the spot where he made me feel guilty because i was small and he gained. He started to offer and push more food. Remember this is your body. Your life. Don’t fall for it. Stay strong.
I am officially back on track today.

Soo. I started my weight loss journey over 10 years ago. I am 5'2" I had surgery and was, if I remember correctly about 320 pounds. (and I had lost weight before surgery..) I was 54 years old. I lost over 100 pounds. I got down to 180 pounds. I could never get lower than that. But my doctors were pleased and so was I. Over 10 years I managed to gain weight and this past July, got mad at myself when I realized I weighed 220 !!!! I told myself that I needed to reverse the trend, and get back to a healthier weight. My initial goal was to lose 10 pounds in a year. Well, I lost 10 pounds in 4 months and then lost another 12 in the last 4 months, and for the first time in about 6 years am just under that 200 pound weight at 198. ( I will claim those last 2 pounds ! )
I refuse to do any drastic dieting, just "going back to my sleeve eating." More Protein, less carbs, more vegetables. occasional treats. Cut out the popcorn and chips which are my slider foods.... and although I really cannot exercise with my other physical issues, I am moving more and feeling better. I would be happy to be in the mid 190's for this coming July - but focusing more on making sure I don't backslide again....
I am posting because .... well, how do you explain to anyone that you have already lost over 140 pounds and gained back 40, and now have lost 20... 10 years later and it's all connected ? And at my age, no one really notices.... although I did go buy new jeans/slacks for work because darn it, I didn't keep the smaller clothing !!!
Anyone else as far out as I am ? Having issues ? Getting back on track this late in the game ?

Will i'm sure you now know that it was wrong.... but no use crying over spilled milk. What's important to remember is how this made you feel...... Physically and emotionally.
I always stick to this way of eating..... one Rule: Only eat at a table. Never in the car, never on a couch, never in the bed..... When we start with Not eating at the table we open ourselves up to so many dangers. I know i had to find this out the hard way. Eating in the car leads to fast food and fast food leads to bad food choices. It also leads to hurried eating, Which leads to overeating, which leads to no weight loss or a weight gain. Eating on the couch leads to eating in front of the tv, which leads to not paying attention to how we are eating, which leads to eating too fast and again.... Overeating. Eating in bed is the same, but it's mostly junk food.
I learned there (for me) there was a right way to satisfy my cravings.... Portions. Example: chips, i would open the bag, count out 4-6 chips, close the bag, and return it to the closet. Sit at the table and one by one slowly eat till it was like mush .... by the time i was at prob 4 i was good... threw the rest away.... don't think about putting them back in the bag... that will lead to you impulsively reach in the bag. I have to throw in the garbage disposal.
