    Soon to be bandster!

Amy - Congrats and welcome! I am fairly new to the site as well and will be banded on 7/16. So, I'm a few days into my preop diet. I hope the liquid diet goes smoothly for you!

    Liquid Diet Day #3

I am so proud of myself. I made it through 4th of July without breaking my liquid diet. I did accidentally lick some BBQ sauce off my fingers when I was serving the kids' food and WOW it tasted good. But I kept to my diet and I'm glad. It was good not to have that "oh, I ate TOO much" feeling like I usually do on holidays. And, I just kept thinking to myself that next year I wouldn't have to worry about sitting in a folding camping chair and worrying it was going to break! I hope everyone had a good holiday and got to see some great fireworks!

    Over 100 July Butterflies....

Awesome! I've never been to Vegas but my friends who have been tell me it's a city built for me. We definitely need a private party! I'd love to help plan - so exciting!
  4. Hey - thanks for accepting the friend link! I also started my pre-op liquid diet yesterday . . . Optifast. I am getting banded by Dr Frank Veninga in Dallas! Lap band was the only option for me. I have about 135 or so to loose. Are you on all liquids? How are you doing? I found adding extracts (vanilla, coconut, banana) to my shakes makes them better. They don't have any sugar or anything in them. Nice!

  5. Seriously - I love your screen name! Should I ask how you came up with it?

  6. Hi! Thanks for accepting the request! Yes, I am July 16th also. I got your name off the list that's floating around and thought it would be nice to chat. I was SUPER excited until the night before my 2 week liquid started, then I was a little scared. But my coworkers (God love 'em) are being super supportive so that helps tremendously! I started my preop diet yesterday. I felt great all day. Today I started getting a little bit of a headache so I made sure to get my vitamins the doc reccomended and am trying to drink more water.

I am 31, married with 2 stepkids and 1 baby of my own who will be 2 in August - hoping to be completely mobile by her birthday on 8/17! I work in Marketing and love rock music. I guess that's a good intro. What about you?

    I feel like a failure!!!

I agree with Keisha85 - the doctors are there to help you. They know that food is a struggle for us. If it wasn't none of us would have the surgery, right? I am just on day 2 of my pre-op liquid diet and I know this is going to be hard, but if you give up now then all of your pre-op work will be lost! My sister just had the gastric bypass done and has chosen to look for things to distract her from food - her Nintendo DS, reading, etc. I don't know your exact situation but keeping busy always works for me to help stay away from the food. Lately I've been trying to exercise when I'm bored - like going to the pool or park. Anyway - I hope this helped you some!

    Unlearning everything I know.

I hadn't really thought about this. But it does seem like a big deal. Will my personality change when I am thinner? Maybe it will just be amplified - like with less inhibitions? I have tried not to let my weight hold me back from doing things like camping and the swimming pool. But in the end, it does make a difference. I can't wait to see how/if I change after. Don't know if the world can handle me being any wilder - HAHA!

    Weight in & 5th Fill

Don't be too upset with yourself! You are exercising and seem to be on top of things. Also, I read (somewhere in my MANY literature pieces) that staying on liquids and mushies for too long can mess up your satiety response (when your stomach tells your brain it's full)!

    very frustrated

Patience is not a virtue of mine. But, I agree with ajoneen. If you really want this to happen it will. Don't give up! Just set yourself a reminder to call the doctor's office or insurance every day. Once they see you are really serious they may be more receptive to your requests. I've known too many people that have given up on WLS because of the paper work!

    Liquid Diet Day #1

After about 3 months fighting with the insurance company I got my surgery approved ! July 16th! So today is the first day of my liquid diet and I'm starving! My doc has me on the OptiFast system. So I had one of those shakes after I got settled in at work around 730. Then I had a can of water - 12 oz. Now it's about 1030 and my tummy is grummmbling! My office is having a 4th of July cookout today so if I have another shake now, then I can't be social and have my "soup" when everyone is eating - argh, decisions decisions. I'm really scared that I will become anti-social by not eating. I just started really talking to people again and coming out of my shell. Hubby is trying to be supportive but I just  don't know how long his "support" will last. It's good to have a place to vent!

The things I look forward to...

That's a great list! I'll have to start one for myself as well. Good Luck!

    Hard Day

Cherie - I love Wii Fitness! Bowling is my favorite. I hadn't really thought of using it as exercise, but it would be a great way to get my husband more invovled in my exercise. Plus, it's one thing we can do at home, for free and after the baby is asleep.

    Whine....

Ok, so I know that any alcohol is really just empty calories. But, how long should I wait after surgery to drink? My nutritionist recommended straight vodka on ice - funny, huh? I have some friends' birthdays coming up and would love to attend happy hour and have a drink!

    An Apple

I just started my preop liquid diet today. But I know after the surgery I will be on clear liquids for a few days and then on liquids and mushy foods for 2-3 weeks. So you may want to call your doctor or nurse and check with them.

    Who's Getting Banded in July?

I'm so excited to have found this thread. I'm super excited about finally having a date - the 16th. I start my liquid diet tomorrow and I'm going crazy with anticipation. My doctor (Veninga in Carrollton, TX) has me on Optifast. Anyone else been on that? Also, have you guys started taking the daily multivitamin already? Any suggestions on which one is best? Glad to be a part of a group and can't wait to hear all the exciting news!

    Walking 1,2,3

Thank you so much for this post! I fall into many of these traps. I am going to print this out and put it on the fridge or front door or in my car - somewhere to remind me that there are no GOOD excuses.

    surgery scheduled

Yes, people do read these! I am so excited for you. I can't wait until I have a date set. Will you switch to all shakes before the surgery? I was wondering if the 2 week shake requirement was just my doctor.

    Sugar Land

I'm in Dallas - quite a drive! LOL. Quick question tho - how did you get that cute little ruler at the bottom of your posts? I've seen a few people with that and think it's pretty coo!

Hoping to be an August Bandster

Jodie, I am not a patient person either. I started the process in March and am still waiting on the insurance to approve me. I was approved, then denied and now waiting on my appeal to be looked at. I did the psych eval (scariest part for me) and the nutritional eval (piece of cake - haha). I am SUPER excited and I can't wait. I hope to be "banded" and recovered before my baby's 2nd birthday in mid August. Let me know how it goes - it's good to see another person waiting around!
