  1. I've been lucky - I haven't felt any real hunger yet. I know it wont stay that way for much longer though! The only problem so far I had was my first night home. I got the dry heaves about 4 different times from the anesthesia. It really hurt and I hope I didn't mess up my sutures holding my band in place. I would hate to have the band slip and go through surgery again! Take care everyone and keep in touch!
  2. Here I am! My computer up and quit on me a couple days before being banded. The power supply went out and I actually replaced it today with the help of my 2 children. My husband and I separated in February, and it was so nice to be able to fix it without him! As far as surgery went, I was banded on Monday and it went pretty well. Waking up in recovery was really hard. I was in a lot of pain, also had a bad headache. But once the pain meds kicked in, I was doing good. I went home the same day and did experience dry heaves about 4 different times that night - every time I got up to move, I felt sick. I know it was the anesthesia. I really hope I didn't damage the sutures holding my band in place. Everything is going great. I feel great other than a little soreness. I haven't felt hungry at all so far. But I know that will change soon! I'm so glad I took all week off work. I probably could have gone back today if I really had too. Anyway, that's my little ramble of a story. Take care!
  3. I'm pretty much doing the same thing this weekend. Laundry, shopping, cleaning and church. That about sums up my weekend - every weekend. With my job, it's impossible to get any chores and shopping done around the house, so my weekends always consist of getting stuff done and ready for the next week. I think at this point I'm looking more forward to the week I'm taking off of work then the actual surgery! I'm sure on Monday morning I'll be pretty nervous! Best wishes to everyone else getting banded on Monday! See you on the other side!
  4. I'm so happy to hear everything went so well for you. Enjoy your journey to the new you!
  5. I'm so happy for you! I haven't been there since I was 18!
  6. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm happy everything went so well for you! It was probably meant for you to sit next to that lady on the plane. Congratulations!
  7. I agree, excellent movie! Right now my marriage is struggling. Not because of the topic of this thread, but, as valjay said, this movie does touch on this topic a bit. Any addictions can be a parasite to a marriage.
  8. -7 lbs for me. I'm on my 2nd week of the pre-op diet. Thanks for letting me join in the challenge even though I haven't been banded yet. Name.............. Start ..........Current.......... 9. I hope everything goes well for you! Keep us posted!
  10. Minxz - I noticed surgery is getting closer for you. This has been a long process for you hasn't it? Longer than mine I believe. Good luck to you and take care!
  11. March 16th for me too!
  12. You know, I kinda played around with smoking like you did. Wouldn't smoke for several days or weeks even and then would smoke one or even just a puff here or there. I know what your going through. I think what finally pushed me into quitting was when my surgeon told me he would not operate until I had been smoke free for over a month. So, I could have had my surgery already by now if I'd stopped playing around with them. I guess I wanted the surgery more than I wanted to smoke. I'm thankful that he is this strict about it. Otherwise, I don't think I would have ever gotten the nerve to quit. I just pray I never pick it up again.
  13. As I was reading this post I noticed the avatars from post #2 and post #3 and got that picture in my mind of the angel on one sholder and the devil on the other! LOL! Anyway, I'm going to have to agree that you are doing a great job and no need getting a fill if you don't need one.
  14. The pre-op diet is to shrink your liver before surgery. From what I understand, the liver sits on top of the stomach and it can be difficult to perform the surgery if your liver is too fatty. Not all doctors require it though.
  15. Hi there! I will be banded on March 16th. I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet. I'm from Central California.
  16. Well guys, I will be banded on 3/16/09. I just started my pre-op diet today. Since this is a longer challenge, would it be okay if I joined in? I'm hoping to lose at least 10 lbs on the pre-op and a total of 30 by the end of the challenge. crzytchr2004.........237..............237...............210........... 27 LessJess..............228...............228...............199......... ...29 libbyjane1976.......283...............283................250.......... .33 SillyGoose............258...............258................228.......... 30 ukcatsfan.............340..............340...............300.......... ..40
  17. Good for you! I'm glad you are still trying. It took me several attempts before I finally quit. Just remember - don't be afraid to quit. I know it sounds silly, but it's true. I was afraid to lose my friend - the one who comforted me during any emotion possible. Just keep pushing. It will get easier day by day!
  18. What a great idea - If you do get some pictures, be sure to post them for us!
  19. I SOOoooo completely understand what you mean about feeling like you've lost your best friend. I felt the exact same way. But you know what - just like with real relationships, there are just some that you need to remove yourself from because they are self destructing! I've smoked since I was 15 years old. I did quit with both of my pregnancy's, but I always picked it back up again. I just wanted to tell you that I totally get it! I still miss it sometimes, but I promise it does get better everyday! Hang in there!
  20. I would definitely call member services tomorrow to find out if you would be considered at the 35 BMI. Where I am (also Northern -- Fresno), your BMI has to be 40 Or 35 with co-morbidities (sp?). I've read that some Kaiser's (southern Ca I believe) require you to have a BMI of 50! So, see what you can find out first - then I would either go back to your PCP or possibly consider finding a new one. The PCP I had originally didn't like the idea but still let me jump through all the hoops anyway. Finally, 9 months later I will be banded! I hear it usually takes about 6 months - 9 is what worked best for me. My PCP retired and I now have a new one that i just met yesterday and I really like him - I told him he better stick around for awhile! Good Luck to you.
  21. My pre-op diet consists of high protein shakes and/or protein bars as long as I don't go over 800 calories per day. I will be having the protein drinks from costco (160 cal & 30 protein) 3 times per day and then a lean cuisine or weight watchers type meal as long is it isn't more than 320 calories. I had heard that my surgeon only wants us on a liquid diet, but when I emailed him asking about it, he responded saying it didn't have to be only liquids - I was thrilled! He said the diet I mentioned above would be fine as long as I don't go over the 800 calories. I start it on 3/2. Good luck to everyone else!
  22. I haven't even been banded yet, so my input really isn't worth much.... But I think that you should go ahead and wait the 10 weeks and go back to see your dr. If at that time you haven't had a loss, maybe he will be willing to give you another fill. Or try calling him back after 4 to 6 weeks and see if he will change his mind. Again - I really don't know what I'm talking about here but at least wanted you to know that I'm wishing you the best and CONGRATULATIONS on your loss this far! Your doing great!
  23. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I look forward to reading Part III.
  24. You got it! My prayers are with you and Hannah. Everything will go great!
