Eurocrat reacted to Recidivist in POST OP BLUES
I really regretted having the surgery for more than a month afterwards, and I didn't start feeling somewhat positive about it until several weeks after that. I was just miserable. Now that I'm in maintenance I think it's the best decision I ever made and just wish I had done it sooner. Hang in there!

I am 3 days post-op today, and it is the first day I have not maxed out my painkiller allowance. It feels like great progress!
So, now that I felt better, I stopped to take some "post-op pictures". But when I looked at them I was quite shocked 😅
My complexion is very, very fair so every bruise stands out a lot. And boy, am I bruised! I have bruising around the incisions. I have a huge bruise on my forearm from the IV dislodging and sending fluids to my muscle instead of the blodstream. The other arm is super bruised as well from a nervous nurse having a hard time finding a vein. And my surgeon has me on these anti-thrombotic injections each day, so more tiny tiny bruises appear each morning.
It looks dramatic, but really I feel fine 😂

    I can't wait to
    - Go shopping with friends and be able to try on clothes in the same stores as them
    - Sit comfortably with my legs crossed
    - Pass unnoticed through the city, buy groceries and go to the fitness center without being stared or snickered at
    - To go to the GP with a cough or a backpain and not have the conversation be about my weight
    - Not spending parties and family events constantly alert and moving around to avoid cameras

I had my bypass on the 15. Everything went well, although I'm still in pain. If I keep improving like this though I should be fine. Walking has really helped - it is slow and uncomfortable but it is a good thing.
I'm struggling to get in my Water and to eat what the doctor recommended. I'll hang in there and keep pushing. 💪

Hi July peeps! I had my RNY yesterday. Doing well. Should be discharged after my clear liquid lunch. Some pain, but mostly not too bad. Hope all of my surgery twins and those having surgery this week are doing well. I will try to keep everyone posted on here.

T-minus 3 hours. Wish I'd slept better/more, but there was a slim chance of that happening. See ya in 6-8 hours!

I had two days of bowel prep, but mine was Golytely, not Magnesium Citrate. My stuff wasn't flavored nearly enough, even with the little flavor packet they gave me. Yesterday was awful. I did end up nauseous after 2 glasses (had to drink a 1/2 gallon of the stuff), and ended up popping one of the nausea pills I'd been subscribed. It worked, but nothing could help having to choke that stuff down. Took me almost 4 hours to get through the 1/2 gallon.
Today was easier, though still horribly unpleasant. No nausea and I just powered through it to get the 1/2 gallon down in under 3 hours.
Also have to be at the hospital for 5:30am tomorrow. Going to try to head to bed shortly, but not sure how much I'll sleep.
You got through the worst part of it, though! It's a downhill run from here on out!

Getting better, at home sitting or lying but sipping something all the time. Not using any painkillers and I have just some pain around my belly button which makes it difficult to move around, sit or stand up.
I have the energy to go shopping or play with the kids etc., if you would want to know, but I can't because of the belly button pain. Hope it helps.

I'm having RNY on July 15th! Somehow the date seems so much closer on this side of July 1st 😮

Glad to hear I'm not the only one freaking a bit out due to gaining 5-7 Corona pounds. I decided to start my liquid fast early as well and dropped about 11 lbs in a week. The past few days no change on the scale though. Hopefully it will pick up again so that I'll be sure to have a nice and shrunken liver 😅

I found out Friday that my date is July 15. It feels like things just got real as I had to do 6 months with a nutritionist and I’ve kind of been putting it out of my mind. Now it’s real and a little scary and a lot exciting!

Eurocrat got a reaction from GreenTealael in What actually makes the liver shrink?
    Hi all,
So this might be a stupid question. I have been wondering what the process involved in liver shrinking actually is?
I'm the kind of person who feel most comfortable with new things if I can see or understand how they work. I'm having a gastric bypass on July 15 and part of my prep has been to watch surgery videos to understand the mechanics of the operation. I might be a bit of a weirdo, I know.
Now I have started obsessing about the liver shrinking, scared to death that the surgeon will refuse to operate for some reason. I even taken to starting my pre-op diet early.
Anyway, can someone help put my mind to rest by explaining the liver shrinking? Does it happen due to the very low calorie intake? Or is it linked to the Protein Shakes? Is it because food intake is liquid - and why is it that pre-op diets are liquid?
