My surgery is coming up on 12/30, and I haven’t hit any of the fears or concerns that I thought I would yet. I’ve had two c-sections and I also broke my nose and had a rhinoplasty to correct a deviated septum. I’ve done well with anesthesia and even my c-section recoveries weren’t miserable. I’m quite optimistic that everything will go well. I wish I could rub some of my optimism off on you! If you need to chat, I’m always around, please send me a message! We’re practically surgery twins!

This surgery is invasive but the recovery is quite quick. My wife and I had VSG surgery on 11/11 and we were both back to doing everything we could do before surgery very quickly. The pain was manageable and we only took pain killers for 1 day after we got home from the hospital stay. You will do great and this surgery is to help you in the long run. Our reason to get the surgery this year and as soon as we could was due to similar circumstances as yours as my wife was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis this year. Her pain has substantially reduced in just the last 8 weeks. Good luck tomorrow and just remember the reasons why you are doing this surgery. It will be worth it in the end.

Youll be fine. Mine was at 3 pm. Talk about cruel and unusual. Lol.
Once you check in, it moves along quickly. Before you know it, its over. Not much pain for me, and I was able to walk from recovery to my room, no problem. I was amazed at just how good I felt. Do what they tell you and you'll be home before you know it. Once home, don't over do it as far as bending and lifting, but walk all you can.

    Good luck!

I've had other surgeries in addition to this one - and I'm always freaked out before them. I think it's a pretty normal reaction. BUT...most people come through this and other surgeries just fine!
like GradyCat, I had no pain with this surgery. I was a little nauseated the first few hours from the anesthesia my first time through a surgery, but the nurses put Zofran in my IV bag, which helped a lot (now I ask for a scopolamine patch (which you stick behind your ear) before I have surgery, which also helps).
Recovery was quick for me. I was mostly just tired.
as surgeries go, I felt this one was pretty easy. There are definitely some people who have a rougher time with it, but it seems like the majority of us sail right through and have a fairly easy recovery.

No, it's not too extreme. It's something you need and have anticipated and are ready for. Some people have ZERO PAIN (me! I had NO PAIN!) and the nausea from the anesthesia lasts about 24 hours. That's only one day. You can tolerate anything for one day that's going to make a lifetime of difference to your health and body. Everybody gets nervous. It's not just you. Focus on why you're doing this. Focus on the long-term results. Pray if you're a praying person. It'll be okay. We're here for you. Check in with us afterward and let us know how you're doing.

FWIW, I'm Bi and coming out in the 90s was a b***h. I've never examined particularly how this has affected my weight/ body issues throughout my life, but then my ACE score is pretty high. I'd be happy to have a LGBTQIA-specific forum, similar to "the Gals' room" or The Guys' room," I think it could only help more people have a place to ask questions or rant on topics particular to us. Generally this page is more of a "everyone in the same boat of WLS" place, all are welcome though. I'm sorry that this has been a chilly reception for you, I haven't found it to be so, generally. Most everyone here is pretty nice.

My time is nearly here andddddd..... I'm starting to get pretty nervous. I've never had surgery before and I'm worried about the pain, the anesthesia, how long will I be in recovery etc. Someone please talk me off the ledge here! I'm trying to stay focused on my goals: better health, being able to do more with my son, less pain from fibromyalgia (hopefully), looking hot again (post PS I'm sure) etc. but still it's SURGERY! Am I crazy? Is this too extreme? I check in @ 5:30 am on Tuesday (PST), surgery @ 7:30. Holy Crap that's 32.5 hours from now-- HOURS! This anticipation is killing me- AAAARGH!

Suzi_the_Q reacted to skyewolfe in Hurtful reactions to progress
Did any one just stop sharing their progress with people they know because of their reactions?

I told my mum about my BMI victory and she said “b***h” her tone dripping with jealousy. She then asked me how much I weigh now and when I told her she said “f*ck you”. Once again with a jealousy and honestly a little pissy tone.
it hurt (I could feel myself mentally and emotionally recoil) and honestly makes me not want to share my progress with her any more. Even if she meant it jokingly (but seriously the jealous tone was there) it was still hurtful.
I know others have dealt with this sort of thing. How did you handle it? My mother is the kind of person where if I try to talk to her about the effect it had on me she’d get defensive and make herself into the victim (she does it every time someone tries explaining to her why something she said or did was wrong. She acts like a spoiled emo teen).

So, I may be a little slow, but I finally figured out how to add Protein to my coffee without getting all clumpy so I thought I'd share in case others have had the same issue. Since I've never been a fan of Breakfast, this works great because it allows me to drink my breakfast and get a good boost of protein for the day.
What I do is mix the Protein Powder (Isopure unflavored); collagen and a benefiber with 2 TBS half and half and 3 pumps sugar free Torani. I mix that until it is really smooth. I then add to my coffee. Because the protein is already dissolved in the cold liquids I don't get clumps. And I get delicious coffee with 35 g of protein

Suzi_the_Q reacted to Jaelzion in Hmmm, change of plans
    Hi everyone,
So for Christmas, I was planning to take the same approach I did for Thanksgiving: take one day off and let myself taste all the traditional food and then go right back to my plan the next day. However, for the last few days I have suddenly been dropping weight, even though I am not doing anything different. My goal weight was 130 but I'd love to get down to 125 so my maintenance window could be 125-130 instead of 130-135. So I think since I'm rolling right now, I'm going to stick to plan over Christmas. I'll put my Christmas plate in the freezer and have it in a couple of weeks if I hit 125. I don't know how long this window of weight loss will last, so I want to ride it while I can. 😂 The food will be just as good when I thaw it out and heat it up in a week or two, LOL.

I wish I had read this before re: the ice trick- I totally cracked and ate food. 😓 Ah well, back on the wagon. One of my nutritionists told me (off the record) that if I ate a little bit on xmas it'd be fine, so I think so long as I'm good from now on it'll be ok. Oof.

I start the liquid diet on the 28th. I’m petrified. I have been eating for 10 people this entire month. I’m pretty sure I have gained weight, but I am not going to look until the 28th. I have actually seen where people are trying to start the liquid diet early?? HECK NO! I will eat everything in site until the 27th. I only have one week pre op. I do not think my hubs could deal with a hungry fat girl with no caffeine!! Good luck to you. I keep hearing it gets better. I’m just going to hope for the best.

I know this feel. I want to crunch, too. Day 5 for me over here. Surgery 12/30! Can you do sugar free popsicles? The cold of them right now isn’t satisfying, but the crunch is, and then shortly after I have some warm broth to warm my lip back up. Lol

I am 61 and feel like a teenager - And, told I often look like one. I Celebrate my plastics one year anniversary January 21st! I considered it another reward and step toward long term health, happiness and wholeness after sleeve a year before. Waiting to do arms and neck maybe the end of 2021 to give body a rest from procedures. After plastics, I feel you are definitely more motivated and psyched to apply new eating and better lifestyle choices. I recommend it wholeheartedly. It will be a game changer.
