My feelings, and dealing with them

I have only told my family, my husband(of course) and my two best friends about my surgery. I don't want to tell my in laws because they know someone who has had a bad experience with lapband. I don't want them to know until I feel comfortable telling them. My husbands sister is the one I worry about the most though. I have always felt she was uncomfortable around me because I am overweight. She isn't super skinny, but she is on the thinner side of healthy. But I am worried that she will think I was too lazy and let myself get this bad on my own. I'm only 23!!! most of the bad choices I made were when I was young and inexperienced!!! I didn't understand what I was doing to myself! I have tried to lose the weight, but it always comes back and then some. I can't do it alone, I NEED help on this. I need a tool to help me reach a healthy weight! Anyway, I guess all this was to say that I don't feel comfortable telling anyone yet, and I'm maybe a little ashamed. Has anyone else felt this way??? :crying:

The start of my WLS Journey

I thought about having this done several months ago, but I knew there was no way my insurance would cover it, and we don't have that kind of money. Hubby and I are paying off medical bills from his 2 knee surgeries last year. So I put it on the back burner..... waaaaayyyy back. I had decided it would never happen and was starting to think I would be obese and unhealthy the rest of my life. But my Mother approached me last month and offered my Dad's bonus from work to pay for it. Could anyone have better parents??? Mine are not rich by any means, but say that my health is something worth paying for. They are the best parents in the world!!! Just thought I would let you all know what a blessing this really is going to be for me!! Because of this surgery I may become more fertile and able to get pregnant, and by losing the weight I will be able to run and play with my children, and not have them be embarrassed because I'm the "fat mom". I will be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being winded. I will be able to fasten my seatbelt without sucking it all in. Planes will be a breeze, as well as roller-coasters. I am looking forward to trying my hardest to use this gift I have been given, to change my life.

    possible sleep study....scared

I need to schedule one of those too. I am self pay on my banding, but I feel tired all the time too. Unfortunatley the weight is probably the factor in the apnea, so good luck. I hope your insurance company sees lapband as a solution!!!

    banded 4/24/08....so unhaoppy

I'm not banded yet, but I have read a LOT on the forums, and from what I hear it may take a while for the doctor and you to find your "sweet spot", where you feel restriction, and can get some food down. DON'T GIVE UP!!!!! It may take longer than you thought, but it is worth it!!!!
  11. Just thought I'd say hi to my fellow July bandsters!! I will be getting my band on July 16th from Dr; Kirshenbaum in Denver. I live in Salt Lake, so it won't be too far. Hmmm..... info on me.... I am self pay (kind of) My parents have generously offered to pay for my banding. Which is AMAZING!!! Because my hubby and i are poor college students and still paying off medical bills for his knee surgeries last year. Could anyone have better parents?!! I am looking forward to chatting with you all and good luck on your bandings JULY!!!!

  13. I actually haven't even had my phone consult yet. I am going to ask lots of questions about that though.
  14. I just saw that you are from SLC and getting banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum. I live in SLC too and getting banded by him on 7/16, you'll have to let me know how it goes, i have my phone consult with him on Thursday. Getting very excited too! Maybe since we live close and have the same doctor, if you are going to drive to Denver, we could car pool and save on gas. If any of our fills will be at the same time of course. It is great to know another utahn will have my doctor. What sorts of questions did he ask and how long was the conversation? I hope you don't mind a total stranger asking you all these weird questions. Anyway good luck on your banding!!

  15. So I am a 23 year old female weighing over 300lbs,and all weight loss attempts to date have not been successful. I am looking at having a LapBand surgery, but don't know if my insurance will help at all. I have Select Med Plus through IHC. If anyone has had success with that particular insurance let me know. Also If anyone knows any good MD's in SLC who work with obese people on a regular basis I am shopping for a new one as my current MD is apathetic in pretty much everything. I really want to learn as much as I can before deciding, and want to talk to a doctor who knows what I'm going through. PLEASE HELP!!! I'm so confused!!
  16. Hi, I am Marie. You look pretty young, and I am 23. I was wondering if you were 304 at your banding, or if you lost weight before? I weigh 305 and am looking at the same situation. I guess I am just hoping for tips. Did your doctor put you on a high protein diet , and then liquids right before? Anything you can tell me would help a lot!! Thanks!!

  17. My name is Marie, I am 23 and am being banded in July, I am VERY excited about it!! I am working with Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. So I have to travel, but it won't be too bad. I just want to say that this forum helped me a great deal in deciding whether or not to have the procedure. So thank you for your inspiring stories and all the info!!

YSA moving to Salt Lake City

If you are looking at living in places with higher standards I would call any of the LDS Institutes of religion and ask if they have any rental postings on the bulliten board. Go to Institutes and click on utah and find the area you want, there will be phone #'s and they should be able to give you some info. Hope this helps!:biggrin2:
