I had my Gastric Bypass surgery in August 2019, surgery was a breeze but have suffered with sickness and nausea for the last year but due to Covid havenโt been able to see my surgeon. Was prescribed Odensetron which helps somewhat. But regardless of the sickness and not being able to keep foods down I do not regret having it done at all. Have lost over 140lbs . Before and after pics attached

JAKE H reacted to healthy_steph in From successful doctor to facing my own death: a journey through hell
My name is Steph and Iโm a 32yo junior doctor working in Australia.
5 years ago I was a highly successful intern at a major public hospital. I loved my job despite the insane hours, and I had just won the โIntern of the Yearโ prize as voted by my peers. I had just married my amazing partner of 10 years and we were saving to buy a house. The future looked bright- I was about to start my specialty training in General Practice (family medicine) which was the career I had always been so passionate about. Two years more training and a few scary exams to sit and then I would finally be fully qualified!
But slowly, insidiously, I began to disintegrate. Bit by bit I slid into a deep and terrible depression. I tried everything- yoga, meditation, psychology, exercise, and many many medications. But in the end I became too unwell and was hospitalised, almost catatonic. Over the next two years I spent a total of 10 months in a psychiatric hospital across three admissions. Nearly 100 rounds of ECT caused me to lose huge chunks of my memory (most of which hasnโt returned unfortunately), and we tried just about every medication under the sun. We eventually found one particular medication that, when combined with an antidepressant and lithium, would keep me stable. It seemed like a miracle at first. But then I noticed the weight gain. At first I just said to myself that Iโd rather be fat than dead. But 35kg extra weight later I knew I had a serious problem. We managed to re-jig my meds and I slowly weaned off that medication but the weight remains and because my other meds also promote weight gain on a lesser scale Iโm now seriously struggling to lose anything.
After countless diets and weight loss medications, dietitian appointments and weight loss programs I have decided it is time for something more drastic. So I am booked for a VSG on the 22nd of March and I canโt wait to have my body look more like my normal self!
These days I am doing very well mentally, Iโm back at work and studying for those crazy exams, and in my downtime Iโm trying to make new memories with my awesome hubby who has stayed by my side through the absolute wreckage of our lives and is still my number one supporter.
So stay tuned for updates as I start my pre-op diet on Monday and get started on this next phase of my journey

JAKE H reacted to Tim C in I am one week post op today- INCREDIBLE!
I hate to even tell this but for folks thinking about backing out, I hate the pre op diet,Is it worth it? Will it work ...etc. I need to tell my story of the last 7 days. Surgery day(2/23) to me was like a blur. The worst part of the day and night was the gas and thirst.TAKE DRY MOUTH SPRAY TO THE HOSPITAL, THIS WAS A GAMECHANGER FOR ME!! I was able to burp the gas out almost 100% before I was discharged. I have not had ny trouble getting my liquids down and really just not had any pain to speak of. I didn't have a BM until a short while ago and that was painful. Like passing a couple of big rocks OUCH!! I took stool softenors, maybe I should have taken more. I went to the doctor yesterday to get some meds refilled. The last time I was there was 1/25/21, 5 weeks ago. I had lost 26 pounds! The nurse said are you losing weight? I said I don't know...am I? She gets all excited and then I told her I had WLS surgery last week.I will say I am fatigued, tired and not much energy. We have a nice gym nere at the condos and I want to go do some 10 # dumbells but too lazy right now. I will get some in today sometime. Do not be afraid to have this surgery. I also had a lap band removed the same day which complicated the surgery but still no pain and now no hunger. I honestly believe I can hit my goal weight in 6 months. 81 pounds in 6 months...if it comes faster or longer I am ok with that too. This has been a great ride so far and I have accepted the change in lifestyle. I have hated to have my picture made for years, you know the tricks, get in the back or between people so that only your head shows.. In a few months that story will change! Do not hesitate to have this surgery. It will change your life for the better!

JAKE H reacted to catwoman7 in 2years post op need working dieting advice
you have to find something that works for you. Some people swear by Keto, but others find it difficult to follow for more than a week or two. Others swear by Weight Watchers - or intermittent fasting - or Atkins. I usually just cut calories, watch my portion sizes, and go back to the way we were supposed to eat that first year (NOT all the way back to Protein Shakes - but I mean how we ate after the first couple of months post-op - Protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and then, if we still have room (and if wanted/needed), a small serving of fruit or whole-grain carb). And start logging your food again if you aren't still doing that. You may be eating more than you think you are. I stopped logging (and weighing myself) for about a month last year when I was overseas, and I came back a few pounds heavier, even though I thought I was being "good". I learned I have to monitor myself like a hawk - and probably will for the rest of my life!
btw - if it's too hard to drastically cut calories (if you decide on the calorie-counting method, which I do when I want to lose a few pounds), then do it gradually. Log your food for a week or two to see how many calories you typically average. That's your baseline. Then cut it by 100 calories. If a couple of weeks go by and the scale isn't moving, then cut by another 100 calories. Rinse and repeat. Eventually you'll find the calorie level that'll get the scale moving again.
