Protein drink recommendations

Hi everyone, I had gastric sleeve 10/16/20 the day of surgery I weighed 213 5'3", I'm currently 165. I do struggle getting in all of the protein needed. Does anyone have any protein drink/powder recommendations? The premier protein drinks aren't sitting as well with me as they used to. Open to any feedback on what works protein wise for you, including foods. Thanks in advance ?

  • I've had good luck with the Fairlife Core Power and Fairlife Nutrition Plan shakes. I also really like the Dymatize and Optimum Nutrition protein powders.

  • My surgeon insists on Isolate protein. Says it’s the best. Any comments? It’s a bit harder to find but GNC has Isopure. Delicious too.

Hi! You had your surgery a month before mine!

I get GenePro unflavored protein powder on Amazon. It's 30 grams of protein and just 50 calories. You can put it in a Gatorade Zero shake it up and have your 30 grams of protein. I'll mix it with milk, almond milk, coconut milk etc first and then pour it in my coffee as a creamer. I do green smoothies with water or milk, scoop of protein, frozen fruit, spinach and kale add a little sugar substitute if needed and blend up in the blender! Lots of easy things you can do with it! Nice thing is it has no flavor and will take on the flavor of whatever you add it too. Good luck getting your protein in!

Hot Protein Drinks & Soups are great alternatives to protein shakes:

Hot Protein Soups: https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/soups-bouillons-broths

ditto on Fairlife and GenePro. I also found that premier hasn't set as well with me post surgery, but Fairlife has been easy to get down and Genepro is easy to mix into anything (just keep the temp below 140) to bring the protein up.

I also like the BariatricPal cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups. I doctor them up with no salt seasoning and mushroom salt (you can find it at any Asian market and it's amazing) then strain to make sure there are no bits of herb before drinking.
