Sorry but it takes about 4 months - See they propped up your liver to get to you stomach and stretched and moved all kinds of parts and pieces around. I asked the doc about this and your body needs to re adjust and get its parts and pieces back in place. Took me over 3 months for that sharp pain to finally stop. i used to get it while sleeping and wake up in a cold fling - Sucks but it goes away

Its been 5 months since my surgery and i have lost 95lbs. I would have never imagined this much weight to come off before i had the surgery. I am so happy. This is a short post. Just wanted to share my happiness with all of you.

    Hello Mark,
Eventually we could all start gaining. I know that I worry about it. I am a month further out than you and was plodding along at the same weight for a month. I decided to go back to eating plain chicken and other meats. I try to eat very little carb, ususally 40 to 50 grams a day and 60 to 80 Protein and of course 60 to 100 oz of Water. Once I did that and kept my calories close to 1100 I dropped 4 pounds over night and the scale hasn't rebounded yet despite enjoying the race day on Sunday. It did seem counter intuitive to eat more to lose but it really did work and I wish I had done it when advised to do so. Good luck!
I forgot to add that I had tried Russell Stover Sugar Free Chocolates and they are so tasty. My problem is is sets me up to crave more sweets so I decided to give it up.

We concentrate so much on weight !

Sometimes it's the inches lost that really shows up in your success! As one our bariatric veterans has once posted. " It's called Weight loss surgery but it should be called Fat loss Surgery" I'm ok with the inches lost ..
  13. Congrats!

I remember posting in December 2019 and a poster wanted to see a male before/after pic. The first one is from my highest weight ever at 314 in August 2019. I am now 244, 70 down since then and 46 down since surgery on December 17. I've been active as a basketball referee and playing pickup games in basketball. I also walk around 3 miles a day at work; not all at once, but in spurts throughout the collective day. Aflac paid me for my surgery through my hospital indemnity policy so I thought that was great! My health insurance paid their part 100% so I'm looking at getting a loan soon to pay off the rest. It was well worth it!

I saw my dietitian for the first time today. She was really impressed with how much weight I've lost (and the fact that I had already met my goal weight to be eligible for surgery prior to our meeting). We talked for a bit, told her how I had been doing a lot of research on the surgery, using these forums for support, and showed her my MyFitnessPal app, so she could see how/what I was eating. She told me she'd like me to try breaking up my meals from being 3 daily to 6, so that I'd be more comfortable after surgery with the frequency of how I would need to be eating then. Good advice!
She also mentioned that I would need to get an appointment with the nurse before she could schedule me for the surgery, but when she went to talk to her and explained how confident I was and how much I progressed, she went ahead and set up my surgery date, anyways!! April 27th! ♥
The only appointment I have left is a 1-on-1 patient seminar, which is March 6th. I'm so excited, you guys!

Azhiker, do you strain out the spices? I used to strain them out using cheese cloth. I think I will go back to turmeric again!

stalls are really common. I had several of them. As long as you're sticking to your plan, all you can really do is wait it out and stay off the scale if you have to.

But they are SOOOOOOO frustrating! How can you be eating around 800 calories a day, not cheating AT ALL and have the scale not budge an ounce? I always went "Yeah, right" when I'd see a person on My 600 Pound Life complaining to Dr Nowzaradan that the scales must be wrong because they weren't cheating and not losing, but I certainly get it now!

I use tumeric, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, black cumin, and ginger every day. But the biggest anti-inflammatory cure is getting the weight off. Fat is inflammatory, and the joints will always hurt when there is extra weight on them. Since surgery, I have not used any NSAIDs at all. My joint pain is zero.
Here is a really nice recipe for GOLDEN MILK. It's good hot or cold, or even added to coffee or tea for a chai latte.
2 cups milk (I use plant based milk - like Ripple)
2 TBS Agave nectar or maple Syrup. (I cut this in half and the drink is still sweet)
    1 tsp tumeric
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 tsp cloves
    1/4 tsp ginger
    1/2 half tsp vanilla
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (Helps the tumeric to absorb)
Each half cup serving has 2 gm fat, 8 carbs, 4 Protein, 55 calories. If you cut the syrup in half, each 1/2 cup then has 4 carbs and 31 calories.

Turmeric is exactly what I use. Have been for the past 6 years. Got surgeons approval to continue. I don’t think that I would have even had the surgery if turmeric were not an option.

I take the capsules with bioperine. It would be extremely hard to eat enough if the spice per day to do any good. Plus the body can’t absorb it without enough bioperine (black pepper) .

I have been working so hard to keep my calories up at around 1000/1100. My fitnesspal kept telling me if I keep eating this way I will weigh 158 in 5 weeks. I was getting pretty frustrated because the scale stayed at the same 169/170 for 3 weeks. I have been really focusing on getting my Protein in, if I was hungry I would eat some roasted chicken (I even bought myself a rotisserie chicken just for that reason) Well today much to my happy surprise I dropped 2.5 pounds! I guess the Nutritionist knows what she is talking about. This week I am going to focus on getting more exercise in, and hopefully kick it up up even more.

Every time you fail there is a lesson to learn - new insights into behavior, figuring out ways to avoid temptation, learning how to redirect emotional eating, etc. Failure means there is still work to do and you can use this as an opportunity to grow and learn from the mistake. For example, the 2nd time I got sick after eating drive through french fries (after long bike rides), I figured out that I was craving salt and needed to rethink my hydration strategy. I found an electrolyte replacement that works well and I never crave salt anymore. Another example - sometimes I am sorely tempted by treats at work - especially when there is just a little bit of something left. I have "finished it off" more than a few times. Now, rather than eat "my share" I now throw it in the garbage bin (when no one is looking, of course). It is a strategy that I have pre-planned to change my thought pattern. Another example - Sometmes I am really hungry when I leave work, and can chow down on unhealthy choices the minute I get home. Now I always have a Protein Shake in the car to drink so I am not ravenous when I walk in the door. Mistakes and failures are the fertile soil in which success springs up! Never feel guilty for slipping - just turn it into a positive learning experience.
Think about what triggered you to eat the chocolate. Were you emotional about something? Were you hungry or tired? Where did it happen and what was the circumstance? Is it something you had a home or were you elsewhere? Were you alone or with someone? Once you figure out what triggered the behavior, you can make a plan to ensure success next time.
Remember that any one of us can fall into the pit, given a moment of weakness combined with temptation. We have to set up guard rails that either 1) keep us strong (like having a Protein shake in the car) or 2) keep us back from the edge of temptation (not having chocolate in the house).

I messed up last night and ate chocolate. Im 5 weeks post op.
It did make me feel sick after and i didnt finish it and threw it in the bin. I guess i just wanted to admit it publically so i dont feel so guilty. I dont want to eat high sugar foods like i used to, and want to nip this behaviour in the bud pronto. Anyone relate?
