I lost 16 lbs the first MONTH and I started off at over 300 lbs. Your body's going to lose at the rate it loses depending on a whole host of factors, most of which you have no control over (e.g. age, gender, metabolic rate, starting BMI). All you can really control is whether not you stick to your surgeon's plan. If you stick to it, the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow. I was a slow loser from the get-go, but I was very committed to my plan, hardly ever strayed from it, and ended up losing 100% of my excess weight.
and yes - there are many who believe "starvation mode" is a myth.

Well everyone i'm here to tell you this surgery works wonders. I was 377 pounds in December 2018. It's now the end of Dec of 2019 and i'm 175 pounds and healthy. I ate nothing but low carb Protein food 5 times a day for the last year and 3 weeks. All i did was walk on a treadmill 4 times a week for a mile a day. I never cheated on my hardcore diet. I've only puked 7 times or so by eating too much since surgery in the last year. As we all do, i had to learn the hard way sometimes. I couldn't be happier and I have hit my goal weight. I am here to tell you if you follow the doctors orders it works.
Having said that i did go against doctors orders shortly after getting home. I was starving (or so i thought) and ate meat from the first week on. Probably not a good idea. I could only get down 3 bites. I had this grand plan to portion out food and bag it up and freeze it so i could heat it up.... it all went in the garbage.
First day after surgery i could only have 3 sips of Water. Stomach made weird sounds and such. I highly suggest everyone takes off work 2 weeks afterwords. I went back to work with in 10 days and i was a mess. I was dizzy every single time i stood up for about a month or two.
Your body will adjust and you have to do the hard work on the treadmill. My back was killing me before surgery. I could hardly stand up to order at least a pound of food per meal. It goes away.... you have to do the hard work and work though the pain. Walk a mile on the treadmill at 0230 in the morning when no one else is there like I did.
It's a struggle but it pays off in the end. Work hard and listen to your doc's. I wish you all the best.

Better photo to highlight the losses, since you can see my side view better.

I feel pretty damn good. Migraine and anxiety disorders causing a feedback loop that triggers each other, but that's another story. I can do so much now it's amazing. I just love going out and doing stuff. I don't mind when people look at me, I don't instantly think they are all "omg that fat guy is gross". I've gotten lots of looks and smiles now. I feel like I did when I was 18-20... less the back pain LOL

We are in a learning phase in the beginning, how to make good choices, what foods and how much are good. You can do this! Does your surgeon have a support group so you can get support from people other than your family?

So everyone hears about the folks that are lucky enough to lose quickly and we see them lose 100lbs in 5 months but for many of us we lose slowly and feel like CRAP about it. This should be a place for us to talk about our frustrations and get advice or encouragement. Maybe you have found a way to speed up your weight loss through trial and error and that might help someone too. I know I work my ass off and I still lose slowly... and then every once in a blue moon ill lose quickly (for me anyway) but I can eat consistently in the mid 600's, Protein around 90, Water over 80oz and i workout hard at least an hour 6 days a week and i can lose - NOTHING. ZILCH. NADA and its upsetting as heck and makes me feel like complete failure. Before surgery when i did IF/ OMAD I lost a bunch of weight, way faster than I am now, barely exercised so I definitely have moments where i am like- Why did I even do this? Anyway, we all need to sound off at times or get encouragement or great advice and this is a safe place for you to do that and to know you are NOT alone.

Here is what I've been told about calories. All calories are not created equal as far as WLS patients are concerned. I was told that I needed to get 80 grams of Protein a day. In order to get that protein I need to eat foods that supply me with protein. So, a four ounce portion of salmon has approximately 185 calories give or take. I can eat 185 calories worth of potato chips but I wouldn't get the same healthy benefit I do with the salmon. The salmon will satisfy my hunger much more than the potato chips and I get get many more useful nutrients with the salmon.
When the experts say it doesn't matter where we get our calories from, in truth it matters very much for our long term weight loss success and health benefits.

You hit the nail on the head - 100 cals of sucrose will cause an insulin spike and all sorts of other things BUT 100 calories is 100 calories and over a long enough time period any diet lower in calories taken in than calories used will make someone lose weight given that everything else is equal (no PCOS or Diabetes or the like).
There was a professor at K-State that lost something like 50 pounds on junk food just to prove this point.

Totally disagree with the ncbi on this one. 100 calories of sugar is going to result in a very different response in your body than 100 calories of oil.

Flo-grown reacted to AJ Tylo in CUBA did It - Im back --- Happy New Year
Just spent the last week in Cuba and I have found a Place to go to break a stall! - Ok just kidding but there is no food and definitely nothing to snack on. While i was gone i had to just about starve, Some veggies and some little bit of Protein from the fish we caught - My goal was to be done losing weight by last night so i go home last night and hung with the kids and such. At 12:08 Pm i stepped on the scale on the way to bed.
When i left last Thursday i was at 254 so thought there is now way going to loose 9 more pounds by the end of the year, But who really cares been a great journey and what is week or two more -
I went to Cuba to offshore fish and have a good time - Not really concerned about anything else just have some fun and chill out. Well we did more then that! We had a blast and fished every day. Much to my amazement met a Cuban girl on the first day, Yes Ladies don't jump on me I am single and I know she really cared for me, She wants to marry me because i am thin and such a great guy close to here age ..... not because i am in the USA and can get her out of the hell whole of a communist 3 rd world country! I am just kidding i know the game but hell ride the ride as long as you can, Actually she was a great person and in college, yes meeting her parents with a 33 year age difference was creepy to me but there they are so different it was not a issue. As i nice guy i bought them there New Years eve live pig, Yes a first for me,
There is no way at 377 pounds what i was prior to WLS i could have Done this trip, Fished offshore as hard as we did and well the 20 year old is out of the question. So for all you out there considering WLS ..... let me tell you it opens up a whole new world - Being obese is limiting you so much you have no idea. I as I try and freaking figure out how to stop losing weight now and Tighten up the body thru cross fit it will be phase two of the journey and even more fun.
So how Did it end this trip: Great times, Great Fishing, Saw stuff i never would have imagined and Oh yes weight in .5 pounds under my Final Goal. Thank you Cuba!
Simply put this was the best decision i have ever made and the reward is off the scale! F#$ck Food
Have a great New year everyone
