    WEEKLY UPDATE
I did ok this week. As far as the scale goes I did lose 1 lb at the very beginning of the week. Being that I'm about to start my period, I'm hoping that I actually lost more ( I typically gain 2 lbs right before that goes down within a couple of days)I mostly stuck to my calorie and macros goals. Some days were higher than I wanted. But i did learn some things
#1 meal prep is very important, I found myself constantly grabbing something to eat until I would have time to prepare a proper meal
#2 sleep is very important. I've always struggled with sleep issues. I go into bed late and than still suffer from insomnia and I wake up in middle of the night. I only averaged 4.5 hours a night!
#3 motivation motivation motivation!!! The days I felt motivated through exercise or scrolling through BP it was easier to stay focused and eat right.
    Stats: 29 months PO/ 5'2" / CW 175.4
    Goals for this week
    #1 Somehow get more sleep
    #2 stay under 1200 cals
    #3 meal prep and plan
#4 make it to the gym more
#5 stay motivated and keep going!!!

Edit- I forgot to mention my Fluid intake wasn't that great either which could be contributing to my hunger/ snacking problem
Goal #6 get in 64 oz of Water

Best decision ever!! Surgery was a breeze, my pain was managed with only Tylenol once I got home and that was only the first couple of days. I went back to work a week later. I look and feel great!! Total life changing experience.

    Good morning,
I'm new to the forum and so far have just read the messages, rather than jump in and post. I started my journey for surgery on 12/26/19 through the local Veteran's Affairs clinic. My primary care provider had experience by prescribing Saxenda to patients and I was quickly approved for it. Today was day 3 of the prescription and I am still at the smallest dose of .6 mg on my way in 4 weeks to the full 3 mg dose. In the VA, you have to be in the move program for at least 3 months and then the primary care team (along with the nutritionists) present your case to the bariatric surgery team. I am scheduled to have my case presented on April 3rd and hoping for surgery in the next 30 days following. In the interim, I am on Saxenda (injection med) to help facilitate the weight loss process as they have stated many times that the more weight you lsoe pre-surgery, the better chances for success. I started the process (I am 6 feet tall) at 351 lbs and weigh in daily through my VA assigned scale. Today I am at 337 lbs, which means -14 lbs since 12/26. Ultimately, the process is working and I am excited to get through 2020 with a successful surgery and lifestyle change!

Threw a 60th surprise birthday party dinner for hubby (structural bridge engineer) this past Sunday. He was totally caught off guard... Sooooo mission accomplished! Told so many tall tales keeping it a secret... Here's a few snap shots of the event. I just love balloons!

This was cool for me. This surgery for me, wasnt just about losing the weight, but also about getting the body i always wanted. Im far from being there but im really starting to see results. I finally have shoulders and arms! I started crossfit 10 days after surgery. Mixed with running this is what ive stuck to and the results are really starting to show. Im 222 now but im also building muscle and still cutting the weight. I always do monthly progress pics and i decided to flex a little. I was shocked myself. I even had the two top abs. I couldnt believe it. I always wanted definition and its really starting to show, Im glad i could do this, while still cutting the weight. Cant wait to see what i look like at 199.

A Surgeon will advise you properly but most will not sleeve a person with reflux, they may suggest bypass instead. Although the bypass is not the only way to cure GERD, it's one of the only trusted WLS performed to do it
    Good Luck ❤️
    ===========================
"To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
    Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th'unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovere'd country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action."

If you are having band problems you should definitely consider a revision. And I know you are interested in a sleeve, but you should consider the bypass. First of all, it isn't more severe--in the sleeve they are removing a large portion of your stomach. In the bypass the stomach is sectioned off, but the remnant (the part left after the pouch is made) is still there, and the bypass is actually reversible, while the sleeve is not. If done by laparoscope the bypass and sleeve are about the same risk--actually more people have died getting hip replacements!
Did you have reflux before you were banded? If so the bypass is a better choice. Costwise, I'm sure the bypass costs more but I don't know that for a fact.
Whatever you decide, get that dang band out and start being able to eat again (albeit smaller portions) without the fear of what it will do THIS time. I know before I got mine out I faced each meal with trepidation--am I going to be able to eat this without throwing up?
Whatever you decide, visit often--you'll learn a lot here. Good luck!

I had some x-rays at my doctors office. Everything still looks fine with my back. I'm not worried about my weight or my mother. I had the surgery for me. I didn't want to loose a foot or leg due to diabetes 2, and to be around long enough for my wife. She said (kidding) that till the bills are paid off I can't die! My mother can go take a leap off of a high bridge with hardened concrete around her feet. I am in a good place about my life without her messing around with my wife or my emotions. I cut the strings to the puppet master and don't plan on being restrung up anytime soon.

pain is all across the board. yes - some people have a lot of it, but most of us have little to no pain with this surgery. I didn't have any. I didn't even open the bottle of pain killers they sent me home with. Even if you're one of the unfortunate people who have a lot of pain, you'll have something for it - so just take them to stay on top of the pain.
as far as the surgery "not being worth it", it is definitely worth it for most of us. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Chill out its mental games going on!
This is a common thread here - You have to ask yourself a few questions
    1. The current lifestyle you are living is it going to kill you? Fat People Die
    2. Do i want to get healthy and live longer? You do the surgery and follow the plan its guaranteed
As for the pain, The rewards are much better then the discomfort, This is not a painful surgery, Get your chest cut open for bypass and break your sternum that is a painful surgery. Read around this site - yes you have hell week like marine boot camp but then it gets better every day, Just sleep it off - buckle down and plow thru it.
Look around you there are others who need you! So live and be healthy or go on Amazon and buy a Urn cuz you are currently killing yourself so the jar is soon to come after you get diabetis and other issues related to being obese!
The support you get here is unlimited, and nobody here went dancing into the surgery not nervous it is common, but we all did it and so can you - It really is not that bad of a procedure

I too wanted the bypass to lose the maximum amount of weight and my doctor felt I could achieve the same results with the sleeve even though I suffered from GERD. I trust my doctor and I'm very happy with my surgery. I have not had any issues with GERD since my surgery.

My surgeon had suggested bypass. I wanted sleeve. He had recommend it as it is malabsorption for life and that would achieve the greatest results he felt. I figured why change the plumbing and was willing to make the changes I needed. He said sleeve was fine as long as i remember that it was not malabosrption for life. After the one year checkup he said I was good and surpassed their expectation of my weight loss, I lost more than was expected from either surgery.

I wanted gastric bypass to lose the maximum amount of weight possible. But I wasn't "that" obese and my Primary Care Doctor and psychiatrist wanted me to go for the "less invasive" sleeve surgery, which didn't make sense to me because they cut out 2/3 of my stomach, which sounds pretty "invasive" to me. LOL! So that's how I decided.
