2ndTimeFreedom got a reaction from Losingit2018 in Revision of RNY
Hello Valerie - my surgeon did not suggest this but I also do not know how much was bypassed originally so this may not have been needed in my case. I went to a revision specialist so I think had he suggested I may have asked for research (I still did this with my current surgery) and then discuss with the surgeon, my Primary and my family. I am still only a week out but I am so happy . For me, the recovery is so much easier second time around.

Woops: I meant July 31st. Reassured myself with a lot of reading last night. Trust the surgeon, but really not sure if I am doing the smartest thing.

I am going, on July 1, for my RNY revision surgery. My surgeon is going to examine the pouch and stoma, and make smaller if possible. What concerns me is that he is also going to increase the amount of intestine that is bypassed. My original RNY, done in 2000, what a short length.
I am worried just because I have not read about anyone else having this done. I may just ask him that, if the pouch and stoma just appear stretched..... make that smaller and not do the bypass work. This will be a situation where I will be on my own after surgery. I mean, they are very responsive over phone and with emails, but there is no follow up appointments. My GP will work with me on monitoring my Iron, Calcium etc.
Did any of your surgeons suggest this approach?

Hi everyone. I had my surgery May 28, and I’m now down 54 pounds . My surgeon never gave me an appt to help me go through the stages so I’m doing it alone . I’m officially on the last stage but I however, am doing it slowly and adding little foods. I eat everything on my plate as 1/3 cup each and it’s been sitting well. I was wondering what foods were added on at this stage for everyone !

Wonderful news!!! Remember the aseptic technique every time you go near your PICC line and you'll, of course, do amazing!!! I am so happy for you!!! Rest away in the comfort of home

I was released from the hospital a few hours ago and I'm doing much much better! Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers. It really meant a lot to me. I have a PICC line and giving myself antibiotics by IV once per day for the next few weeks. It feels great to be home again.

I’m almost 3 weeks post op and my glue is starting to come off. Any recommendations on scar cream/ oil brands? Also, can I start this as soon as the glue falls off?

Hubz & I are now 10 days post op. Surgery wise we’re doing great but last night we ended up in the ER with Hubz for kidney stones. He’s now in bed snoozing and I’m barely holding my eyes open dreaming about an iced coffee with double espresso lol. VSG wise we both get abound pretty well. He was able to cut the yard yesterday and we are able to do everything around the house and for the kids that we need to. We have left side pain but we have pretty good pain tolerances and rather breathe through it than take pain medicine. Don’t QUITE make our Protein every single day yet but if we don’t we are pretty close, it will come in time. Counting down the days until we move to purées/soft at day 15. We’re pretty over liquids at this point. As of this morning he’s lost 28lbs and I’ve lost 24.

*This little update is cross posted to the post-op thread, I wanted those who hadn’t gone yet to get it too*

Not just Fluid although your weight gain will certainly be fluid - did you have keyhole surgery? If so, they actually carefully pump a whole load of air inside you! They use the jet of air to separate your organisation inside to move them aside and make the keyhole surgery easier. They suck some out as they close up but surgeons all leave more or less of it.
It slowly dissolves over the next few days, but this is ‘gas pain’ and it is probably the worst bit of the recovery - mine hurt like hell up in my left shoulder, front and rear.
Just get up as soon as you can, and walk. You have to walk it out. As you move about, your bodily organs absorb the gas and you go back to normal!

Insurance companies are a breed unto themselves. And anything associated with Medicaid can be problematic. I don’t think anyone here can really answer for sure whether an insurance company will authorize or not. A lot will depend on your doctor. What have you and your doctor talked about? It sounds like he has put you on some type of path towards authorization. Is that correct?
As you have probably noticed, some people on this site have had some tough times getting things approved, while others have had no problems whatsoever. When it comes to insurance companies, they can be a pain. Good luck.

@Lynnlovesthebeach that’s the reasoning she gave me. I’ve found my spend full body suit with only medium firmness is doing the trick and not bothering my dermabond over my incisions.

So sorry your acids levels were off the charts. However, happy that revisional surgery is an option. I know you will do great. I am day two post-op and doing great. I still am waiting two weeks to weigh myself as I know I was probably dumped with fluids and I feel bloated. How long will you have to wait for a surgical date?
  23. Congrats!
