I kind of adore you @Matt Z, in a totally non-creepy way. Especially when you get snarky ;).
Incredibly insightful post. Posts like this, to me, are essential for all pre-op and recent post-op folks because it reinforces the commitment behind this surgery. Sometimes we focus so hard on the I-want-it-now mentality. Despite popular stereo-types, this really is not a quick-fling type of ordeal. It's more like a in-it-for-the-long-haul-in-fact-let's-get-married ordeal. It's emotional, it's frustrating, it's amazing, it's terrifying, it's freeing. You have ups and downs both emotionally and physically, and it truly requires a strong desire to change.
    Great great post!

That's great that you have someone that can do the taping for you, VERY important to track your fat loss, ESP when the weight doesn't move on you... which happens with muscle growth and Water retention. I weigh in daily, I get it's not the suggested method, but I like having as many data sets for tracking trends. I'm glad I can provide my information and experience to hopefully help others.

The human body loves to keep things status quo. So when you start messing with intake, it does whatever it can to hold onto fat and energy stores. It does end up giving up and getting with the new program... for a bit anyway, then it gets all clingy with the fat cells again... as long as you are tracking your BMR and intakes, and are getting plenty of Water (128oz +) then you'll be ok. I so totally get the frustration! If you can, get a body fat measurement device or find a gym or nutritional store that has one, paying attention to fat loss, I feel, is pretty important, we see weight as a single factor, but, bones, muscle, tendons, our organs all contribute to our weight, the goal of Weight Loss Surgery is to reduce the weight from Fat only. It really should be called Fat Loss Surgery, and I think that would get more people paying attention to their fat content rather than focusing only on the weight number.

We all have or will get frustrated with our weight loss.
We all have or will question if we are doing things the right way.

    I'm not different.

I wanted to showcase why focusing on the short term isn't the best thing to do.

Here we have my 1 week weigh ins. I'm so super frustrated with this. I've got this goal I want to meet and it's getting tougher and tougher. 2.7 lbs is still a respectable drop. But, I see this line and it makes me sad.

Here is my month. 7.4 lbs. This isn't great at all. The downward trend is good, but the rate, really gets me frustrated.

Here is where things start looking much MUCH better. Here is my year in review. 85.2 lbs total. Here is where we can start seeing why it's so important to look at the whole journey and not just the small daily/weekly or even monthly numbers. I am proud and pleased when I see this chart.

And here is my full weight loss weigh in history. Here is where you can clearly see the struggles. You can see where I got the Lap-Band and started this whole process. You can see where the Band and I stopped working well together. You can see the gains and losses, all the super frustrating stalls. But what I really want people to take away from this is, the whole picture shows the real story. When we focus too much on the small things, we lose focus. When we don't take the whole journey into account, both past and future... we lose sight of our own successes.

I hope this helps someone to get through a stall or to realize that, it's never too late to start over.
Just keep moving forward and try your best not to worry about the small little blips when the whole history will show something much different.

    Stay Strong.

I'm 54 and was sleeved almost 5.5 months ago. I have my 6 month post-op in 15 days. I've lost almost 74 pounds and I'm ok with that. I hope my PA is good with it as well. Others have lost more, but I need to just keep focusing on my journey. We got this!

I'm over 65 and surgery is scheduled for early December...I'm already on a restricted diet for gout, so dealing with things I can't (shouldn't) eat is not new. However, Protein heavy food and Water is getting a little tiresome. Yes, I know it will be a permanent issue after the sleeve, but I love my veggies and fruit.
This step is drastic as we all know, but having been fat my whole life I'd like to see what it's like to be able to wear normal clothes, sit comfortably in a plane seat and not be greeted by friends as "Hey...big guy". Whatever my life expectancy is...I want that experience. Plus I'm tired of using a CPAP for my severe apnea.

How long ago was that? I find myself craving carbs. My nutritionist wants me eating 1/4 cup a meal which is almost impossible. I feel that I need more than Protein all day long.

There can be a few extra challenges to weight loss surgery later in life. It would be nice to support each other on the journey.

If you ever feel like you're surrounded by know it alls (here or in real life) and want to scream/type "just shut up already" you're not alone.

You're awesome. You're doing great. If your journey is totally normal and you're freaked out because you're NOT experiencing the myriad of issues you see here, I feel ya. If you're having issues, I hope you're finding the non-judgmental support you need. If you're not, I hope you find it. Try & remember the people commenting on every freaking post to chastise & bully are really talking to themselves.

I’m 4 months post op and these past couple of weeks I been feeling hungry more often. I usually drink Water or black coffee. Sometimes I eat a boiled egg or tuna which worries me cause I feel like I’m eating more than 3 meals and it may lead to grazing. So far my weight lose is still going good but for the future I’m afraid it may hurt me.

I have real hunger too and it started maybe 4-6 months post op.
    I have noticed that:
foods with higher sugar/carb content make me hungrier for more foods, thinner foods even Proteins will leave me hungrier quicker as well, drinking more makes me less hungry especially hot things, I cycle different varieties of foods in and out of my schedule, I revise and remove things from my diet as often as I need to when they no longer work for me, clean salads are like freebies in that I can eat as much as I want and its still only like 100 safe cals.
Lots of trial and error in a safe space has helped. Don't give up for a moment. 💜

Why am I getting hungry so often throughout the day? I had 75 grams of Protein today... my nutritionist said that was a good amount for where I'm at. But I feel so hungry. I'm feeling so frustrated. I read about other people who say they have no appetite and how great it is blah blah blah... I feel dizzy when I stand up as well...and have no energy. I started at 349 and am at 308... I know this may sound dumb or whatever..but I felt so much better before this surgery.

I am I the same boat. I never lost my hunger either. I do feel restriction and feel full eating dense Protein but, I am hungry again an hour later.
This can cause grazing tendencies if we are not careful. I stopped losing for months.
I recently increased my Water intake significantly. I was getting the recommended minimum but, now I am constantly drinking water. It has helped with my appetite and I am starting to lose again.

I am exactly the same. I was sleeved on 2/20. Lost 55lbs pretty quickly and then the brakes went on! I've been stuck and teetering with a 1-2lb loss (and gain) for over a month now. I still follow the rules and mostly do Keto foods so it's very frustrating. I feel like this is it - and once I can up my intake to the full 8oz per meal that I'll stop losing altogether and actually start to gain. I too have felt like I should've gone with bypass. Glad to know I'm not alone!
Starting weight on surgery date (2/20/2019): 275
    4.5 months post-op: 215
    Height - 5'7 (female) 42 years young

Just plowed through my first stall! It lasted about 3 weeks and finally broke this past weekend. I am not sure what caused it. I know i should count my lucky stars for being this far out and just now hitting one. I am hoping i still lose this coming week but maybe it was a fluke that the scale moved. i did however lose inches.. I went down to a size 12 yesterday. Thought i was going to die LOL.
