Repeatingthoughts got a reaction from TheLdywMoxie in July 2020 Surgery anyone?
It is almost July! Let the countdown begin! I go back to my hematologist tomorrow for a second round of Iron infusions. Never thought Id be excited to see my hemoglobin levels.
I do not have a preop diet. However, I will begin one about 2 weeks before my surgery on 7/23.

    Good luck everyone.

My bypass is tommorow!! Whoohoo!! Finally!! After Covid it was pushed back! I’m ready to get this done. I hear people saying they had to do a liquid pre op diet. I didn’t. I was on a 1000 calorie diet!

Today is day six of the two week pre op diet and I a have to tell you I don’t think I have ever gone this long with out Peanut Butter! I am craving it so bad. Ice pops are definitely not Peanut Butter. I think if I see one more tv commercial about Reese’s peanut butter cups I may come unglued. I am waiting 15 minutes for my show to record a little bit so I can fast forward the commercials and then I will be in happy land for a little bit watching YELLOWSTONE. I loooove this show. I am Team Rip all the way! Lol. 8 more days to go. Hopefully they go fast! Hopefully everyone is doing good and managing there diets. Stay safe all! Good night!

Update after my one-week post-op appointment yesterday.
The nurse practitioner I saw was awesome. She listened to all my concerns and then said that everything I'm feeling is TOTALLY NORMAL. No, I can't add soft foods until after the two weeks is up, however, adding more Protein (so trying to drink another protein shake) will help a lot. The good news is, my pain is really manageable now, barely even an issue, and that's much better than a lot of folks experience at 1 week, especially with a nasty hernia repair thrown in AND having to inject myself in the abdomen with blood thinner twice a day! She described my current symptoms as "a general malaise" and I laughingly had to agree. I'm going to start taking my Vitamins today, which she said would also help me feel better. And bonus! Even though I'm still liquid only, I can take my calcium chews which are basically like candy so HURRAY.
As far as feeling exhausted, until it improves she encouraged me to just take as much time and lay down to rest whenever I need to. There's no requirement for activity level, just try to do as much as I can but don't push myself. Yes, 300-400 calories is normal at this stage and so is the resulting fatigue.
Last night I had my husband get a chicken Soup from Chick-fil-a and strain all the solids out. Then I ate just the broth. It was the most amazing thing I had ever tasted. 🤣

The photo that kick-started my motivation VS current. I'm about 2.5 years post-WLS and about 14 months post-skin removal surgery.

Hi gang. I’m back. My surgery is rescheduled for July 23rd. I had my. First Iron infusion. I’m happy with this. Getting 500 mg of a medication via IV (forgot the name) which is suppose to be stronger and improve my anemia by a lot and I’ll be ready for surgery. I am excited and happy with the change. I was upset at first but the universe had other plans. FYI my hemoglobin is at 7.7.

AW dang. Sorry for the set-back. Speaking as someone 13 day out... anemia would NOT be good at the start of this. The weakness is real and that's will normal numbers. Here's to raising that level. July is just around the corner! Keep us updated!

Firstly... TWO MILES A DAY THE FIRST WEEK?? That would've killed me. This 2nd week too. Don't push too much. I took two 20 minute walks on Saturday (I go slow at a dog park so that didn't equate to two miles) and that evening the nerve/incision pain was AWFUL.
Sounds like you're doing GREAT on H2O and protein!! Wow! Feel good about that. Bloated VS restriction is somthing I've been trying to put my finger on too. Here's what I'm feeling so far... Bloated is the swollen inside belly up to chest feeling I've had now and then my whole life. Restriction is different. It's almost like pain. It's hard to describe. But the first time I felt it was eating cottage cheese. I put 3 Tablespoons in a dish and about halfway thru I felt odd. Not painful exactly but... more pain than bloat. Like the last bite stayed high and I was either going to burp to relieve the pressure or spit it back up. It's never felt serious. I just stop and walk slowly around the house for a minute of two and it goes away.
How interesting on the Q-ball. Is it external? I have A LOT of nerve pain. But it feels like it's inside. I know some people take Gabapenten for it. I'm trying to power thru.
I need to poop. So colase in now on the menu.

    Hello!
I had my surgery on 6/11. I'm not going to lie, so far I'm really regretting getting this surgery...
My pain is fine. Walking fine. It's when I swallow anything is the problem.
I have a lot of gas/bubbles in my whole esophagus that I can feel down to my stomach. EVERY time I sip something. And sometimes the pressure really bothers me. The pressure gets so strong like I need to burp and sometimes I do or it goes away slowly. The pressure ends up in my upper esophagus/throat area.
I haven't been able to get in hardly any Protein. I'm still trying to concentrate on getting fluids in...
Last night/early this morning, I felt I found something that really helped me with Fluid intake! I tried drinking fluids with a straw and I'm not nearly getting as much gas/pressure drinking with one. huzzah!
Well, with that little victory my menstrual cycle decided to make its way to me, middle of the night mind you... and yes, this was expected as I'm taking birth control pills. Woke up very early this morning with bad cramping but that's kind of normal for me.
Well after my successful fluid intake with a straw from this morning, I decided to heat up some broth for lunch. Mind you, this broth I had last night and thought it was delicious. I took two sips and my pouch/stomach didn't like it at all. My stomach started gurgling and there was even a small pain. Nothing major, but I could tell my stomach felt "sick" drinking that. Now ever since then, my stomach has been upset feeling and I have a nausea pressure in my throat. Thing is, I'm pretty sure this is because of my stupid period that this is all happening.
Did anyone have any similar experience to me? When you get your period, do you get similar symptoms?
Also... for menstrual cramps... did anyone by chance drink Pickle Juice so soon from surgery for cramps? Want to try it if I have a cramp attack again.
I've ordered some Protein Drink fruit mixes from the BariatricPal Store to see if I can handle them to get my protein in...

Gastric Sleeve 08th June, it had been postponed from March due to Covid.

Two days in hospital due to nausea from general anaesthetic (I always have that post surgery).

No pain at all really, even had to drive (be driven) for 9 hours home.

Not able to put much into myself at the moment and not sure how normal that is. The first few days it was literally a few sips of juice/milk. A little over a week out and I can finish a Boost Protein drink over the course of the day and half a cup of cream Soup. I have tried some thinned applesauce but that isn't sitting too well.

Omg just checked my insurance website. I was approved!! I am so excited!!! Began this journey in June 2019. Surgery delayed due to covid19. NYC was hit so hard. My main focus was to stay safe despite normal feelings of disappointment. Surgery 6/29/2020. I am sooooooo delighted. The time is always right.

Also just for context, Mypaperwork was submitted on Monday, took 2 days to be approved.

I get migraines... so my dietitian told me I can still drink a cup of regular coffee in the mornings to keep them at bay without medication.

Just had my gastric sleeve on June 15th. I guess I’m lucky, had no problems with the anesthesia and gas. Up and walking soon after surgery. No problems whatsoever.
Im a little sore on my stomach where the largest incision was made, but other than that I’m good to go.
Hope all goes well for the rest of you.

Just found this site and am super pumped! My surgery is on the 23rd of June and I am having a gastric bypass. I can't wait to be on the other side of surgery and get off these Optifast shakes, but it is so worth it!

I am finally having my surgery on 6/29/2020. It was originally scheduled for April 9, 2020. However, due to covid 19 it was cancelled. I am super excited. Now I am praying that my surgery is approved. They did not submit my paperwork before.
