I slept in my regular bed but with about 8 pillows behind me and next to me to prop me up and my arms as well. Worked nicely

BlueAngelEyes reacted to Briswife15 in How much excercise after surgery?
My surgeon suggested (strongly) that I get in one hour of walking a day, in 2 to 3 separate walks. I have yet to get there! I walk 30 minutes in the morning and workout with a personal trainer 2 times a week for an hour. Im 3 months post op.

Walking for now at your own pace. I started to walk on the treadmill one week after surgery for 30-40 mins. I tried the elliptical at 2 weeks out but did not have the strength and stuck to the treadmill. I am 6 weeks out and started spinning 2 weeks ago and the elliptical machine is a breeze. I am waiting for clearance for weights next week once I see my medical team on Wednesday.
    Congratulations and good luck.

I haven't tried the egg salad but will this weekend! I really liked taking tinned chicken (broth and all) pureed with my hand blender, adding a tablespoon of instant potato flakes and a tablespoon of chicken gravy. Portion out what you can comfortly tolerate. Reminded me a bit of Thanksgiving! lol

In my experience yes you can. But consuming too much to me, causes me to get the runs. Think about that.

And remember a lot of the sugar free candies are made with mannitol and xylitol, and those 2 sweet little critters can cause diarrhea. Last time I checked it's hard to suck on mints while the other end is a- exploding, not impossible, just rather hard!💩

Gum can allow air into stomach and can also causes a blockage if swallowed. Best to abide by the rules outlines by your doctor, especially for those first couple of post-op months.

BlueAngelEyes reacted to Briswife15 in Why dont they give appetite suppresants for the liquid faze
Some people, myself included, lose their sensation of hunger early on. I'm 11 weeks post op, and only recently started having a feeling that I should eat. It doesn't feel the same as hunger did before my surgery. I guess for those who still feel ravenous an appetite suppressant might be helpful!

A few random thoughts in no particular order -
Does your doctor have you on a PPI acid reducer medication such as omeprazole? Excess acid can mimic hunger.
In the early post op time, our sensations of hunger, satiety, fullness, etc are altered due to what has been done to us, so these feelings are not a good gauge as to what we need, This also means that any appetite suppressor would unlikely work on whatever you are feeling. Many experience "head hunger" which is more psychological than physiological hunger.
There are literally hundreds of Protein supplements out there, so it is likely a matter of keep looking to find one that suits you, or try a different approach to it. I never go along with the ready to drink products, but found that I could adapt most any powder to something that I could use. Unflavored powders can be added to Soups or broths (and there are chicken broth flavored ones out there, too), flavors can be added, temperature and consistency changed, mix with Water, milk, fake milk, etc. There are clear liquid varieties such as Isopure which I cant take on their own, but mix in with Jello quite well; my wife makes a smoothie with vanilla powder in some juice and a banana and frozen strawberries (may be a bit early for them, though - ask your doc). Unflavored powder added to oatmeal, cream of wheat or even mashed potatoes are classics; make protein pudding with powder of your choice.

BlueAngelEyes reacted to Kara Duke in Does anyone know why my toes feel like there tingling all the time
I get “itching” in my feet and toes. Mine is a side effect from Percocet. Try an antihistamine. Also, your gut can produce histamine and cause the tingling, also try allergy medicine or a probiotic for your gut.

If it is I've messed up lol. I think they we're okay as long as you're not chewing them and swallowing pieces.

My Dr said that you can swallow air but the main reason he didn't want gum chewing is because it can cause a blockage if you accidentally swallow it. Then followed that with a wait 6 weeks if you're not going to listen anyways.

I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday he just said lets leep an eye on it. He said there werent anyother symptoms to suggest anything else. He said if its still going on at our next appointment then maybe i need restless leg symptom medicine. Im not diabetic ether so i just dont know. Hoping someone had same issues.
Ive always had a problem with my hands going numb at night when i sleep on my side and thats do too nerve problems in my shoulders and neck but to have my toes tingle now its getting harder to sleep.. it must be a nerve issue in my toes which i hope somehow goes away.
I kinda wonder if this WLS triggered a bigger problem in my body. My sister has alot of nerve issues and is misserable. Oh dear i hope that doesnt happen for me. I didnt even think about it till now.

I'm 1 year 2 months post op and have lost 115lbs which is awesome. I have more energy and can do more things with my daughter, I'm in clothing sizes I have never worn! I should be the happiest I've ever been, but I have a mindset I feel is holding me back. This may seem ungrateful, but I'm ANGRY I'm treated differently now that I've lost weight. It's like I was invisible (or worse- gross) when I weighed 286 but now people notice me just because of what I look like and it PISSES ME OFF.I was all the things that make me ME before I lost weight and now it's like a revelation that I'm worthwhile somehow. All of this positive feedback would have been awesome when my self-esteem was in the toilet from being depressed and overweight.
-My husband wants to tell me I look cute and wants to have more sex - and my 1st thought is why didn't you do this before?
-People who wouldn't give me the time of day at work tell me my ideas are great - and I think, they were good before, why didn't you speak up then?
-My family tells me nice things about myself and my clothes - I cant stop thinking about how I could have used this support BEFORE.
Has this happened to anyone else? What do I do to move past this? Should I see a therapist? I don't want to be ungrateful...

Qbaby08 you will do great! I was scared and nervous the week before my surgery too. I kept thinking bad thoughts and over thinking what will happen and got cold feet thinking if i should go through with it. Dont worry i just had my sleeve done may 31st and its finally easier. First 2 days sucked for me and were awful no lie gas got stuck in my chest for days and nurses kept saying to walk as much as possible and sip Water to try to get the gas out. Found everytime i had there nausea medication it made me dry heave and id actually burp a bunch in stead Anyways first 2 days were horrible But got easier after that and now im a week post op and im finally able to sleep on my side and hold my kiddos and do alot of things. Some docters say drink a certain amount of calories but mine didnt he said the number 1 thing in the first 2 weeks after ur surgery is getting hydrated so water, water, water i have to put crystal light with my water to get 60oz a day. My doctor said dont worry about Protein right now just water. So now i drink lots of water and about 2oz low sodium chicken and beef broth at different times a day and maybe only 2oz of Protein Drink from costco and im doing great. Just be carful to not over strain or over do it in anyway like picking heavy things up.
You will be a whole new person next year and u should be so excited. Im happy for you! Everone that i ran in to before surgery that had the sleeve done said to me they wished they did it sooner in life rather than waiting cause they were scared. You got this!!!

BlueAngelEyes reacted to danieocean in Loose Skin, Saggy Breasts and Hair loss...OH MY!?
I'm 28, had my sleeve done last year when I was 27. 7.5 months out...I had a lot of hair to begin with and have experienced Hair loss, so it's not too noticeable for me. I also started to lighten my hair as having darker hair you can see your scalp more. I have lost nearly 140lbs and do have sagging breasts (went from a 42F to a 34 DDD) and sagging skin on my belly, thighs and a teeeeeny bit on my arms. I feel like if you have stretch marks, wherever those areas are, they don't seem to recover as well as other parts (my experience). I've posted about this before though, it all depends on your genes...I have very sensitive skin and scar easily. Some people have hair loss, some don't, some people have sagging skin and others snap right back. At the end of the day, I chose to improve my health and expand my wardrobe and live with saggy breasts and skin...I want to fix it eventually but, am in no hurry. Reach out to me directly if you have any questions too! I know sometimes it can be hard to post in a public forum. I attached pictures of my belly and thighs and then a picture of me today. No spanks, no special bra (one of those new lounge bras by PINK), no control top leggings just me today. It's easily covered up. Everyone's different. Hope I've helped and not scared you, but I can tell you 1000% it was worth it for me. Best of luck on your journey!!!!

I didn't lose any hair. Most people do, but for the vast majority, they're the only ones who notice it.

as for saggy skin, yep - very common. Although if you ask most vets, they'll say that they'd take their saggy skin ANY DAY over being morbidly obese. In retrospect, I'm not sure why I wasted one brain cell worrying about it. i am SO much happier now that i'm normal weight!!! Plus, for most people, it's pretty easy to hide - you'll likely be the only one who knows it's there (other than your partner and doctor!)

"For instance, loose skin, saggy breasts and Hair loss. Has anyone ever experienced any of these and if so, how did you deal with it? Is there anyway at all to prevent these things from happening?"
Hair loss - happens as your body reacts to the extreme quick weight loss. It goes on for a couple of months and then it stops and your hair comes back. I don't know anyone who has avoided it. It's temporary.
You don't say if you have kids, but if you do, your boobs already sag. Will this make them sag more? Yep. Any way to avoid it. Stay fat. But if you are going to have surgery, nope.
As for loose skin, that depends on many things - age, ethnicity, skin condition, amount of weight loss. I have some flab flapping around, but I lost 150 pounds. I wear those flaps like a badge of honor. I haven't had plastics. I'm about 3 years out from surgery and the mother of a 19 year old and a 16 year old. My boobs would have been sagging anyway because - GRAVITY. So, you don't need to go under the knife again. Get your head in the right place about why you are losing your weight. Adopt the plan early and exercise to the extent you can now.
    Best of luck.
