    August 2019 Check In

Halfsnack- so glad you are doing well!! The guilds and protein are super important- but once you are out and about more ie- work, you may need to pay attention to your calories too- we are SUPER low on calories right now, but our bodies still need them to get us through the day. Tracking in an app will help you see where you are at 🙂 I went to the grocery store about the same time out as you are and had to sit down with a full sugar juice to keep from passing out because I was not getting enough calories.

    August 2019 Check In

So two weeks post op today, I was switched to purée at day 12.... doing good. The horrible pain I had was rough- my doc finally suggested getting off the crazy pain killers and giving an ibuprofen a shot ( I’m sleeved so he said it was ok just for a few days) anyway that did the trick. I have got the two week stall- I really need to put my scale away!! The purée stage is nice cause of the options but I’m noticing how “heavy” things are sitting- especially in the evening. I have not thrown up at all post op but man sometimes I wish I could lol. In the meantime walking seems to help a bit

    Everything hurts

Update- after a rough week, 2trips to the er and a bunch of tests that said I was fine.... my surgeon advised me to try some Ibuprofen. He said that the muscles near my belly button were probably spasming because of some trauma during the surgery ( cameras and tools and such) Anyway... I slept through the whole night last night and feel amazing today!!!!!

    August 2019 Check In

Thanks guys- I am definitely going to try the standing thing and am calling my office first thing in the morning- I was hoping to be able to take care of it locally ( office is 2 hours away) but it’s time to get the experts to help. my office said milk was cool- even recommended it as a full liquid ( we go straight to full liquid the day after Surgery) but I was wondering if that might be part of the problem too- I have never been much of a milk drinker

    August 2019 Check In

Sleeved on 8/12. Been having a rough time honestly. Struggling to get ,y fluids in and am having really sharp cramping pain in my abdomen right across my belly button, and super sore flank pain. I have gone into the local er twice first time they did a CT to check for leaks ( none) gas ( just some tiny bubbles) and constipation ( none) so they sent me home with a liquid morphine. Today ( went back in cause even the morphine is not helping) we ran blood work again and I was dehydrated so they gave me iv fluids. The scan did show I have a kidney stone but the dr said since it hasn’t moved that it’s not what’s causing the pain. So basically they have no clue why I’m spending most of my day doubled over. I’m thinking of going back to just clear liquids for a few days to try and rule out a milk sensitivity. Have any of you experienced something similar?? Every thing else is healing nicely and I think I would be feeling amazing if not for whatever is going on
  6. Hey surgery twin! I felt exactly the same way, this was by far the most painful surgery I’ve had. the hospital staff were great but there were a couple of times where my medication was late because my med schedule coincided with staff changes- that was NOT fun!! But I’m home now and after getting some actual sleep I’m doing better. The incisions still hurt a lot and I’m getting some gas pains in waves but it seems like it’s getting a little better hour by hour. But what really matters is WE DID IT!!! Our journey has begun!!

    Everything hurts

I’m home now, and sooo glad to be in my own bed!! I am hoping some real rest and being able to manage my own medication will help a ton. As the day has gone on drinks are a little easier. Still have some pain but now I am pretty much certain the lower tummy stabbing is gas- never have I just wanted to fart so bad 😂😂😂 thank for the encouragement- I was really in the deep this morning. Ok I’m gonna go sleep now.

    Everything hurts

Thanks guys- doing a little better tonight. Currently negotiating my release lol i got caught up in a shift change so I was almost 2 hours late on getting pain meds. And that pain is something real!! as the day has gone on it’s been a pretty achey but not as much of sharp, excruciating pain of last night and this morning.
  9. So had my sleeve yesterday afternoon. I totally expect to have pain but is it normal for every tiny baby sip to hurt like hell once it hit? Even my pain meds hurt 😭 how long does this last?
  10. Today is the day!!!! I’m here, all checked in and in my bed. I am super nervous and feel like I’m gonna puke ( although that may be due more to the nasty full sugar Gatorade they had me drink than my nerves) I will check in on the flip side- good luck to everyone else going today- I know there were quite a few of us!!!
  11. I’m going in tomorrow too!!! Have to check in at 11:30 up in Spokane wa. Very nervous and excited too. My off said I can do a protein shake up til midnight, then clear liquids until 2 hours before check in. I have to sip on a full sugar Gatorade throughout the day today as well. this is happening guys!!!!

    Cold feet

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate this forum - such a safe place to share and be honest even when it’s not easy. Today was a new day, and I have been faithful to the plan. I’m still a little scared for sure and I am sure I’m the next week I will go through some more waves of anxiety. I really believe that the post op period I will be terrified of pushing boundaries, thank goodness, and I want this!! I got a journal to write down all the reasons I’m doing this so I can look at it on the hard days. OH!! And as a side note to today- I was offered a rotational position I applied for and got an email for an interview with another internal job I was interested in 30 min later!! Such good news! lots of positive change in my future!! So hoping recovery is quick so I can take advantage of one of these opportunities!!
  13. Ok.... 10 days until my VSG and I am freaking out a little. my dr office has me on a protein shake only diet for two weeks and I totally cheated and had fries and some of a pita today- I knew what I was doing but just did it anyway. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was so excited when I got my surgery date that I actually did a modified version of this diet for two weeks before I had to( my office has different plans based on BMI so I followed the plan for the BMI above mine)- doing shakes during the day, low carb dinner and I did great- lost 10 lbs. I haven’t lost anything this week I don’t know why I cheated today- and now I am so scared that I won’t have the discipline after surgery. This is such a big deal, it’s costing a lot of money and because its “elective” I just feel so much pressure that people will judge me if things go wrong... and of course even more if I mess up the weight loss. this Surgery is something I have been weighing for almost 10 years and I know I will be so glad a year from now. I have been so excited but now I am a bundle of nerves. Anyone else go through this?
