I had gastric bypass surgery around 6 years ago and I am very pleased with the results. It is sort of like the gold standard for bariatric surgery. They have most of the bugs worked out. Mini-gastric bypass is somewhat new so I can not really assess it.
In general, many people try various kinds of diets prior to eventually getting gastric bypass surgery. Most of the time these are referred to as yo-yo diets. Because the individuals will lose some weight but then over time give up the diet and then gain the weight back and then some. So it is like a yo-yo. In your case it went to the extreme and you slid into anorexia. So the only advise here is that the psychological treatment component is very important for you for the surgery to work. (the package with the 12 phycologist sessions). Also if things go south sometimes after surgery then reactivate the physiological component.
The three most important elements after gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

    Hi everyone :)
I was wondering if I could ask for some help please?
A quick introduction to my weight history.
SO from a young age I was always overweight. Primary school I was the chubby girl, in high school I was the fat girl and in university the weight piled on even more until I got to around 16 and a half stone where the weight maintained itself. Then in the year of 2016/17 I went on an extreme diet and exercise regime where I lost ALOT of weight by myself, in the beginning it was great I felt in control and very motivated but then by the end of 2017 I had lost too much weight, I was severely depressed, lacking in nutrients, I had no friends and my weight plummeted to 6 and a half stone :(. Then in February of 2018 something just snapped in me I was tired of being constantly anxious and avoiding food so I just started eating EVERYTHING I had banned and BOOM by the end of 2018 I was back up to 17 stone again!!
I understand that my body needed the food but my anorexia phase went straight into binge eating and I have been struggling ever since :( all that hard work for nothing but I was so miserable I just wish I hadn't taken it so far!
Now I want to have WLS (I am going to therapy) and have been in contact with a surgeon here in the UK who is lovely, I want to take my time, heal my mind and body but I am just so down with my relationship with myself and food at the moment :(
Can anyone offer any advice please? The surgeon believes the mini gastric bypass would be the best route but I would need to select the package with the 12 phycologist sessions.
How has everyone's experience been after surgery? I just am afraid of going back the way I was, I never want to be like that again but I am feeling horrible at the moment :(

    Thank you! :)
    Char

    Hello char :)
I am currently 1day post-op, had a LGS performed. Only speaking from my experience because we seem to share the same past lifestyle. I went on a strict diet, losing so much weight, but once I hit my goal weight, I went back to eating and sure enough gained weight back. I would go back and forth trying to diet, my weight would go down, but eventually go back up. After years of the constant battle I started giving up, and I really let go, eventually hitting 307lbs. I knew I need a serious change if I was going to keep the weight off. So I turned to WLS and here I am. From start to finish it was about 5 months.

As far as the after math of the LGS, they pump your body up with a gas to perform the surgery. Well that gas sits inside your body for awhile after surgery causing like a discomfort (not a pain for me), just more or less an annoyance. Like you have to burp but can’t. Other then that, I’m doing great. No pain other then swallowing there’s a small amount of pain.

I was super nervous the day before surgery, to the point where I was contemplating canceling it. I kept telling myself maybe just one more diet, it’ll work but I am surrounding by lots of family and I knew, all the diets I’ve done over the past 5 years never worked. I’m glad I didn’t cancel it and pushed through.

Now I’m super excited to see how this changes my life. And from reading everyone’s success stories on here, it truly inspired me to push for the surgery. So if you’re battling with your weight, it’s definitely something to considered. Try reading some success stories and I can’t wait to get to my goal weight and post my own story. Good luck with everything 😊 hope that helps

Hi Pam! I'm going to be 56 this year and I'm having surgery on march 25th. I asked my dr. If Im to old (that's what my husbands says) and the dr said no. He's done it on people much much older than us and would still recommend it to me if I was 10 years older. He says ill say I should have done it 10 years ago and I'll feel much younger.. I hope because I take care of my 2 grandchildren 2 and 4 years old they live with me. At the end of the day like right now I'm tired. I just want to move better and I really do want to look better i hate how I look and of course the health benefits. I just hope I'm feeling good soon after, I only have a plan for the first week I'm home my daughter will take off of work. Can people tell more what its like those 2-3 weeks , are you sick? Do you just want to lay? Can you move about easily? I hear your just exhausted is that true? What would you suggest for me. And that's if I have no complications. Any info is appreciated.

The first weeks are an adjustment. Things will get better, I promise. I'm 3 weeks post RNY gastric bypass today, and things are good. Hang in there and remember why you wanted surgery. Best to you!

DAY 14: Declutter. I'm doing a "mental" declutter. I'm throwing out all of the negative thoughts I had when I had a weight gain. I thought I had prepared myself for any situation with this WLS. The gain hit me hard, because in the past I would say just forget it and keep eating. Regain all of the weight back. I'm definitely not going to fall back into that pattern again. I started over, writing down everything I put in my mouth. Got rid of the Protein crisps and Cookies. Not going to jump on the scale yet. I still have some more mental decluttering to do.

First off, Congrats on your weight loss! You did great. And BTW, you're absolutely gorgeous.
As for your breast adjustment. I agree, not too over the top. The surgeon did an excellent job and they are very proportional to your body size/waist.
I want!! I've already lost 15 lbs and I feel like they are drooping to Timbuktu!
Thank you for posting, for sure! I'm more motivated than ever!

My weight finally stabilized around 145 (original goal weight), so I went forward with surgery for a breast lift with implants (Dr. Ciaravino in Houston is amazing). I lost 72 lbs total after the sleeve but added approximately 1.5 lbs of implants (Mentor MemoryGel Smooth Round High Profile 350cc). I cry when I see these photos side by side. I got sleeved on 2/28/2018 and got these boobs 9 months later on 11/30/2018. What a year.

Hey, December 2018 Sleevers - Check out New topic entitled, I didn't realize as I lost weight... It's hilarious! ;]
BTW, Healthy Life 2 - How exciting!!! You are three pounds away from your goal! Congratulations a head of time...
Something I didn't realize nor expect as I've lost weight is the opposite sex taking a second glance. Even my very handsome dentist was extremely complimentary of my appearance yesterday. It's nice when others are now looking at you positively and not at all the baggage once carried! One gentlemen at Earth Fare asked me out for drinks at the fresh nut bins. I wonder if hubby is becoming concerned? Haha.
A BIG smile at Ms.SSS comments!!! Oh boy - what's life come too when at bowel movement ROCKS our day! But it's true. Waking up in the morning... Could this be the day?
I've had to re-set my memory button for car seat and a lowered steering wheel. That gigantic tummy is just no longer in the way! Not to mention, I no longer roll out of the car BUT actually show some degree of poise exiting the sports car model. ;]
AND, who knew I'd ever touch the likes of swordfish, sea bass, cod or any other swimming creature for the matter! BUT you'd be proud... this solely rich meat (especially prime rib, NY strip, pork chop or pot roast... yeah baby!) and Potato girl said for lunch out yesterday, "I'll take the grilled shrimp over mixed spring greens, please". A totally new snap shot from past requests for a BLT or grilled roast beef sandwich. Just imagine I thought I was making really good strides toward healthy eating by asking for mayo on the side and multigrain bread.
At the doctor's office - the blood pressure cuff no longer feels like it is going to explode my arm off (ouch, that use to really hurt) and they could actually find my vein to draw blood. Getting up on that high examination table, no problem.
I actually wore a form fitting, clingy dress (a leopard print to boot)! VS. the old sack cloth like neutral, cotton or linen ho hum stand by's. My very cool jean jacket with said leopard dress - Now a size 10 not a 2X.
What a great topic. Just too many to mention... Fun!

Me too! I've lost 35 pounds since surgery 12/11/18 and feel like it's slow, but I just saw my surgeon last week for a follow-up and she says I'm right where they want me to be. I get jealous sometimes watching the bigger people lose so much faster, but it is what it is. I'm eating around 850 calories/day easily. I'm also experiencing a stall now for two weeks and I read here yesterday where another December sleever was stalled now too, so it must be a normal thing for us around 16 weeks.

Hello December folks. I wanted to post some facts and get feedback. I was sleeved on Dec. 20, 2018. I have lost 40 lbs to date. I am 5'4". To this date I struggle to get in 700 calories a day. Until last week I was only getting in 600. I also really have trouble getting my Water in. Does anyone count Decaf coffee into their fluid goals? I have tried not to break the golden rule of comparing myself to others, but....I don't think I am doing as well as others. Now granted I started at a lower BMI than some so they say I will lose slower but I have only lost about 2 sizes on the bottom and 1 size on the top. I am a pear shape and I still have sooooo much fat on my thighs and arms. I still don't understand why a person who is much bigger than me can lose quicker. It just doesn't make sense to me. If I am at a deficit in calories I should lose weight, period. I find myself staying up late just to try to get my calorie goal in. Maybe that is the problem, that I am eating late. I do not eat any carbs except those that come from vegetables and Protein Shakes. I still need to drink at least one Protein Shake a day to get my Protein in. I have not had any fruit or grains or cheated with any junk food since day 1. Tomorrow is 16 weeks and I have been at a stall since last week. I go up and down 1 pound between 164 and 165. I exercise a couple days a week with just cardio for now. I am thankful that I have the restriction that I have. It is really hard for me to eat 2 oz of any protein source. I still prefer softer foods like eggs, tuna, etc. Any comments at all are appreciated.
