    Hello All! I'm Peach! 👋🏾
My surgery date is 6 count em.. SIX DAYS away. I was put on a 3 week ALL liquid pre OP diet. In the first week I cheated but I have been trying my best. So far I have lost around 10lbs.
I see alot of people say that if you are not successful in the diet and your liver doesnt shrink enough, the doctor could sew you back up and not operate.
My question is: has anyone ever been sewed back up and not operated on due to their liver not shrinking?
Tips, stories, &advice are all welcome.

Me. I did the 2 week liquid pre-op diet and my liver didn’t shrink enough. Put me back together, had to loose 30 lbs and did it again.

WLS is hard. You are going through a time that is a right of passage.
I think we've all "tested" the waters during our diet progression--some with more success than others. But please understand this...the rules exist for a reason. For our protection! At 7 days the risk of perferation and leakage are HEEEEEEUUUUUUUGGGGGEEE! The reason you are placed on liquids is to reduce the amount of activity in the stomach. The stomach actually expands and contracts when food (and sometimes liquids) are brought into it. They even do that in response to PICTURES of food. And the docs want to keep that activity to a minimum.
And the second thing that must be asked of you guys cheating:
What were you hoping to get from WLS? Why would you actively say WTF, I'm doing it anyway cuz I am "tired of liquids" Why would you actively add back caffeine to your program when your doc told you not to? When decaff is an option?

*SMH. Trying not to judge. But this WOE is hard enough without actively trying to eff ourselves with bad choices--most especially during this early, early, time. You have ONE honeymoon period. Don't eff it up. Don't squander it. Get started doing the headwork, and making the hard calls.

I'm sure others will be along shortly to soothe your ruffled feathers and give affirmation to your decisions and rationalizations...

I think it would be helpful to seek professional help at this point. It just seems as if you needed the bypass you weren't loosing weight by yourself &couldnt. You must see what you GAINED and not what's lost which seems to be alot of grief about food(which clearly was your issue to begin with)

Exact same thing happened to me. Post op day 11: sudden onset very severe right sided pain when I moved. No pain when I was still. I had to walk for a few days with my hands holding my abdomen! Totally gone by day 15. Surgeon said muscular.

Tendons, ligaments ,muscles even nerves, a lot gets moved around ,or cut duri,g your surgery. Granted it is a lot less monkey- doodling than they did in the days of "open" incisions, I carry some scars from them that I will carry to my dying day, unless I have plastic surgery, and I doubt I will, Because most plastic surgeons would laugh someone my age right out their doors.Probably would be thinking. " Vain Old Broad!" plus in the rear of my mind I remember what happened. to Joan Rivers, went in for a Minor Procedure and ended up Majorly Dead.
SO doubtful you did yourself too much harm turning over wrong, if you twisted or tore. something you wouldn't be alive enough by now to be reading this. And most things do get better with time!

Well, I guess everyone's not perfect. Oh well, judge away, but a bowl of fruit is not the same as big portions, buffets, and greasy fried food, no matter your unusual logic.

Peachgodd reacted to Coleslaw in Pre-Op to Post-Op - my recent journey
Prior to my surgery, I had to attend one general informational session, one support group, one psychological assessment, got clearances from a heart doctor, a pulmonologist, and my PCP, and attended a 3-hour seminar on what to eat during each phase of the process.
I started my pre-op diet on May 15, and follow the diet to a "T" -- twelve days of the following (no more, no less):
1 cup low-fat Soup (cream or tomato) 1 cup veggies (carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, or iceberg lettuce), with optional 1-2 tbsp fat-free dressing ½ cup of each of the following: sugar-free pudding, sugar-free applesauce, fat-free yogurt, and oatmeal. 3 Protein Shakes 48-64 oz. Water The doctor said the pre-op diet was to reduce the fat around my liver, but it had some great psychological benefits as well. I savored every bite I took, took my time to eat and enjoy it, used smaller utensils and plates. Surprisingly this filled me up, thanks to the Protein shakes and yogurt. I went to a restaurant with family and ordered only water, I brought my own meals to barbecues with friends and did not cheat once. It felt very empowering! Also a bit frustrating as my friends tried to push their food on me -- "Are you sure you don't want to try this? It's really good. One bite won't mess up your diet." I sat there very happy with my soup and salad, and finally shut them up by asking if they wanted to try my delicious iceberg lettuce and cream of Tomato Soup.
The final day of pre-op (the day before surgery) was Clear Liquids only. I drank a gallon+ of water, and ate about 4 sugar-free Jello cups. I did go to bed hungry that night but happy to do so because I knew what was coming next.
My husband and I are avid boaters with lots of friends in the boating community who we spend most evenings and weekends with. Two days before my surgery, we had 7 of my girlfriends on our boat and one of them took a group photo. There they all were looking cute in their bikinis, and there I was looking fat and frumpy in my t-shirt and jean shorts. Any nerves or qualms I felt about the surgery were instantly gone when I saw the photo. I was ready!
The surgery itself on May 28 went well. It took about 2 hours, and my surgeon also repaired a hiatal hernia. I did have one problem in the recovery room. Apparently my body can't handle opioids very well, and every time I pushed the pump for more pain medicine I would fall asleep and then quit breathing. I had a dedicated nurse who was closely monitoring this. She quickly contacted my surgeon who recommended a dose of Narcan to reverse the effects of the opioids, and then ordered only manual doses of pain meds. If it weren't for the constant care of the recovery nurse, it could have been a bad situation.
I spent one night in the hospital, where they encouraged me to walk the halls, and even refused to discharge me until I did so. I took and passed a second leak test the 2nd day. They sent me home with an abdominal binder (#gamechanger), a pill crusher, and prescriptions for pain, nausea, cramps, and reflux. I have 6 purple incisions on my belly -- they aren't bruised, the glue they used is purple. It feels like a scab, and will fall off on their own in 1-2 weeks. I am up and walking around, even up and down stairs, although more than about 8 minutes at a time is exhausting and painful. But each time gets easier.
Tomorrow I start the puree phase of my post-op diet. Protein shakes, applesauce, pudding, cream of wheat, yogurt. Nothing with anything but a smooth consistency, so I can puree canned fruits & veggies, fish, etc. Twenty days of that, then on to soft foods. At 6 weeks I will no longer have restrictions but plan to eat most of the same (eggs, fish, lean chicken, veggies, etc.).
Thanks to everyone here who have shared their stories, challenges and victories. It really has been helpful for me, and I'm sure many others.

    Hey you look awesome!
I have a goal of getting down AT LEAST 125lbs. Starting weight was 320 so 200lbs for a first goal seems realistic as well as attainable. Once I get there I will reevaluate how i feel and look and then maybe I'll tweak my goal a bit. I was never on any meds like you, but I really like that goal you set. I just want to get to a place where I feel good and I can maintain it too.

Yes. I’m almost 4 months out and just this last weekend me and hubs took my MIL to a bday party for a friend who was turning 80.
The food was amazing and plentiful and I went through the buffet line and put a smidge of almost everything on my plate.
One single bite of homemade slaw and potato salad and macaroni salad was delish and I was able to stop with the single forkful of each. Oh and the pulled pork and smoked turkey was the main course on my plate. I didn’t use any sauce and not one single person noticed and it didn’t feel weird.
I made sure to savor every bite and chewing slowly was a benefit, not a curse.

I even had 2 Cheetos which were quite honestly disappointing: my memory of them were better than the actual thing. 🤣🤣
When it was time for cake, I took a very small slice and ate half of it and I promise that I didn’t feel deprived or stupid or the center of attention. Everyone was happy to be here gathering for a dear friend and was having a good time and focusing on one random friend of the families eating habits was not on anyone’s agenda.

Quite simply nobody noticed and/or cared what I ate or didn’t eat at the end of the day.
