Hi everyone, I am 61 years old and having the gastric sleeve next month, no date set yet a few more test to run and my psych eval next week. I am getting nervous already because there is a lot of bad stories around. I know there is always more bad stories on the internet then good. Any advice is appreciated.

I’m sure you have heard this before but if you have very low complications rate with the gastric sleeve. Depending on your other health issues and history, your surgeon will be able to tell you what the risk will be in your case. You probably know the risks you are facing if you are not having the surgery. Also he can tell you the benefits you can expect. Take your time to think at those facts, commit to it when you are 100% sure you are ready. It is life altering surgery and can give you amazing success and satisfactions but also it is irreversible and not for everyone. This surgery is a great tool to get your health and your quality of life where it needs to be but it needs commitment to make it work. It is normal to be anxious about it, nobody can guarantee zero complications but as long as you’re prepared to do your required part your chances of success are pretty good. This website will be a great resource for advice and encouragement for you. I wish you best of luck.

many people have no complications at all and of those who do, most are minor. You hear "bad stories" because people who have major complications are reaching out for help. People who don't have any complications and for whom things are going great aren't likely to broadcast that fact on the internet. Thus, it seems like major complications are more common than they really are.

I know what you're feeling because before I had surgery, I stumbled across some sites that had horror stories, but those kind of stories are really rare...

I’m 52 should have my surgery in June. Getting bloodwork done on Friday and first meeting with the nutritionist. I feel very alone, but know that I have to do it for me. Nice to have you along for the journey!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
