MeowAMR got a reaction from JAKE H in July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
Hey y'all! Well its been past my 1 year surgiversary 07/24. I thought I'd come and check in even though I'm late lol. I'm officially down -81lbs in a year. Started at 261lbs and now 180lbs. Starting BMI 41, current BMI 28... so now I'm only overweight lol and not morbidly obese. But the BMI scale that goes by height and waist size says I am normal BMI range lol. I got to my goal of size 10 Levi's pants!! waist size 30 (last picture) Yay!!! Of course I wanted to get to 100lbs down, but I did not reach it. Regardless I am truly happy where I am now so not losing the other 19lbs isn't a huge deal for me. I am finally comfortable in a bikini again (middle picture) which feels awesome (even though I have cottage cheese legs lol IDC).

I am just so glad I had the surgery. I remember I was so scared to get the surgery and thinking what my life would be like and almost backing out of the surgery thinking I would miss out on all my favorite foods post op, but I was wrong. I'm glad I didn't chicken out. I'm finally happy again to be in the skin I'm in... even though its not perfect its good enough for me.

MeowAMR got a reaction from sizemedown in Having PCOS and Having to Lose Weight Before Surgery
Do you know how much they want you to lose? PCOS is usually looked at as a comorbidity. Metformin did absolutely nothing for my PCOS and I slowly gained over the years. Keto did help me lose around 10lbs, but as soon as I stopped Keto I gained it back. Before my surgery I lost 11lbs by the pre-op diet that was basically Protein Shake in morning and at lunch, sugar free Jello or pudding between that when I got hungry and one healthy dinner like a salad. For two weeks. It sucks and not something recommend for long term, but if there is a certain lb'age they are wanting you to lose before they approve you that might help.
I'm lucky and my insurance didn't require any weight loss and I was at a 40bmi so I didn't need any comorbidities to get me approved. I am 8months post op and have lost 74lbs! So this surgery does work for us PCOS girls. Unfortunately it only worked on the weight loss. I still have Hair growth thanks to PCOS and my periods are still wonky too. Good luck on your journey!

This 100% is what I don't miss about being fat. I refuse to wear black leggings anymore unless I am going to the gym and thats it!!! I wear jeans all the time now and I love it!

I never had a problem with spices and them upsetting my sleeve. I love spicy shrimp and once I got to my solids faze I ate spicy shrimp and tolerated it just fine. But like someone else said noodles and rice might not tolerate well in your new stomach just yet. I am a year out and I can barely handle 3 scoops of rice. I'll eat rice or noodles every once and a great while, but they do fill you up fast.

A fun thread! No matter where you are in your weight loss journey, what are some of the things you WON'T miss about being fat?
    I won't miss:
Wearing black stretch pants every day b/c they were the only thing that fit.
Avoiding social situations (high school reunions, etc!) where I might run into people that didn't know I was fat.
Chub Rub! (even though it's my BP name!)
Hiding from cameras, and worrying about others posting pics of me on FB.
Worrying if I would fit in the airplane seat.
    Crying in the shower.
Going to back to school night and watching all the skinny moms sitting at their kids desks and looking perfectly comfortable, while I tried to squeeze one butt cheek on the chair.

I'm sure I will think of some more, but here is my starter list for now!!!

Haven't been doing well the past 5 weeks..no weight loss. Letting calories sneak in during the day. COVID is driving me nuts especially with a spouse home 24/7 eating carbs and many trigger foods that they used to not eat in front of me. Getting back to business as I still have so much to lose. Down 175 lbs from highest weight ever but lost 60 lbs of that in 3 years doing Keto off and on before surgery. My 1 year 'anniversary' was yesterday (7/25) so from the date of surgery I lost 115 lbs. If I had stayed on track, that # could easily have been 10 lbs more but that is not something I can stay hung up on.

This is a long post. I promise there won’t be many like this. My hope is that my story will help inspire someone that is on the fence. My story is about some really good decisions I’ve made including marrying my wife. I submit to you that our respective journeys are about decisions and commitment to a process. The surgery fixes the physical for a period of time, but it does not work on your brain. The short and sweet version:
HW: 602 lbs I very rarely admit to this.
    SW: 552 lbs
    CW: 260 lbs
    Total weight loss: 342 lbs
On this day 2 years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life. At the time, I had no idea how great I was going to feel or the new experiences I was going to enjoy. All I knew was that I was about to turn 50, and I came to the realization I had to make a change. I always told others, that you can’t do the same thing over and over and expect different results. That was my a-ha moment prior to the surgery. I decided I was going to undergo weight loss surgery. I decided I was “all in” on this process. The day I went to initially meet with my surgeon, I stepped on the scale and weighed 602 lbs. It was hard to look at. Every part of my body hurt... my knees, my back, my ankles, etc. Almost impossible to walk. To put it into perspective, I could barely walk for a couple of minutes without pain or having my heart beating heavily. The good thing was I had normal BP, sugar, cholesterol, etc. I can’t even explain my mental state. I had slowly withdrawn from almost all aspects of living. I am the by-product of losing weight successfully and then gaining it back with interest. I could always lose 75-100 lbs on my own. But since I had a lot more than that to lose, I would eventually hit a wall and revert to my bad habits. I initially wanted to have VSG surgery because it was less invasive and quite frankly I was scared of surgery. Although my surgeon recommended RNY, he left it up to me. I researched a lot and decided RNY. I asked soooo many questions. I spoke with people that underwent surgery. I also decided that I was going to pay out of pocket for the surgery. I felt it was an investment in me. I also didn’t want to chicken out during the insurance process as other times. From my initial consult to surgery day (about 60 days), I lost 50 lbs. 27 of those were during the liquid diet. And no, I did not cheat once during the liquid phase. Was I scared about surgery? Absolutely. But I also understood, statistically, men of my weight do not live long lives. My surgery weight was 552 lbs. I was blessed to go through the surgery without complications. The 1st 6 months out, I focused on the nutrition aspects. The only physical activity I tried was Water aerobics. At about the 6 month, I weighed in at 425 lbs. I felt things were beginning to slow up. I decided to hire a personal trainer. My first conversation with him was that I knew I needed to exercise for my health but there’s no way I could ever have the passion for going to the gym like him and others. My first goal was to walk a 5K. I accomplished that 6 months after. It took me 1.5 hours to finish. But I did it. What an incredible feeling. Today, I do that on a daily basis. Both walking and jogging. I have never felt this good during my adult life. I have embraced this new lifestyle and now look forward to working out. During these unprecedented times we are facing, I have found alternatives to going to the gym and refuse to allow the situation to dictate my life. Today, I stand at 260 lbs. This is the lowest weight I’ve been since high school. It’s important to build the right team. To my wife, my surgeon, my primary physician, and my trainer.......THANK YOU. I would not have been able to achieve these results without your support, encouragement, and advice. I also look at my own level of commitment during this journey. As I said, I hope that my story helps others.

I think bacon is ok, but not every day. You're going to have to choose what kind of post op person you wanna be. Are you a person who is going to be super strict and a stick to everything your doctor says or a in moderation person. So based off of that you'll get different answers coming from a strict diet person and a moderation person. I'm a in moderation person (although my doctor did tell me regardless of what I eat I will lose no matter what in the first 6months). I do not restrict myself and will eat anything in moderation. For the most part I eat healthy and what I should be eating. But do I have bacon once every two weeks yes. Do I eat chocolate once a week yep... have I ate chips yep! But its all in moderation and knowing you have the will power to control yourself and not binge eat.

I would make eggs your main focus when you're eating breakfast and have 1 piece of bacon. Or make bacon and put some bits mixed in with your egg. Same goes with sausage and ham. Moderation is the key. I'm 8months out and have always lost and never gained. By 2months 2wks post op I was 32lbs down (started at 261lbs), but like someone else mentioned a lot of factors play into how much and how fast ppl lose. I stalled around the same time as you and for almost 3wks it was very discouraging. You still have a long way to go... as do I, hang in there the weight will come off!!

Hey yall!!! It's been awhile since I've been around my last post was in December. So far things have been going well. Typical stalls and temptations!!!!! I can say I have failed at resisting at times. I was 205 the last time I was here and now I am at 190lbs! 15lbs down since I was here last and down 71lbs total. I was so happy when I finally hit "Onederland".
Seems like once I hit the 6month mark weight loss has slowed. I am responsible for that though. I haven't been hitting my Protein or Water goal so I know that will slow me down plus, I've been bad and eating some sweets here and there. I am determined to lost 29lbs before they year mark which may not be possible, but I would like to. I did get to my size goal. Before the surgery I was around a size 18/20 and said all I want to be is a size 10/12 and I am there!!! I have finally got into Levi jeans sizes and I love them!! Boyyy!!! they make your booty look so good lol! But honestly if I stay where I am at right now I would be completely happy. Even though I haven't been losing much weight lately I can tell I am still losing inches. Hope yall are doing good and getting close to where you want to be!! (Attached a little progression)

As far as diet goes, i stuck to a good plan and for the first six months i had a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch with a couple of Protein based "snacks" (cheese stick, a serving of jerky..etc) and then for dinner it would be some kind of meat and veggie. The weight will come off regardless. i wasnt try to do it fast, Ive just become obsessed with the gym and working out. I started crossfit two weeks after surgery and i havent stopped. I also took up running. Just ran a half marathon two sundays ago. I wanted to get a good relationship with working out because i know the honey moon phase will end and i can eat more eventually. So, i know if i continue to exercise and add good foods to my diet ill be successful in the long run. So i guess the way i did it, is by relearning the true value in food and by setting up a plan for the rest of my life. I cant believe how fast time has gone. Im loving every second of it tho. I have days where i feel down when everyone at the house is snacking or everyone at my office is celebrating with beer and pizza. But then i look in the mirror and remember i use to hate who was looking back at me. And now every time i see myself i almost chuckle a little bit. Like thats actually you dude. Where im at today was well worth skipping the cake and pizza. But dont get me wrong, once in a while you gotta try a thing or two or youll go insane. lol Find that balance and live there. SOrry for the long response.

    Mine would be

    1. Not feeling ashamed walking next to my hubby. He works out daily and constantly gets told he looks like The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson. He's tall, buff, and handsome. When I am with him I feel like people stare and think ugh why is he with her she's fat.

    2. Be comfortable going to my hubby's work functions. I don't go because I feel like I would embarrass him with my weight.

    3. Be able to walk up the stairs without being winded

    4. Not wearing plus size clothing.

    5. I have PCOS so it gives me a metabolic disorders which makes me gain weight and I am looking forward to that being gone along with the other symptoms like excessive Hair growth (i could probably grow a decent chin beard if I wanted) and acne. PCOS is the DEVIL!

I had about 2 tbsp of anything I wanted and a slice of turkey. Too full for dessert. Ended up losing a pound over night and two more the following weekend. Now sitting 3 pounds from my end of year goal to get below 200. I just might do this! We are headed to Universal Orlando for New Years and the prospect of going on rides without being self conscious about being over #200 is pretty exciting!!!
