Losingit2018 got a reaction from GreenTealael in Trying to kick Sweet craving and Carbs bread
Get some flavor drops or flavor packets to help with the Water. Just make sure that they are sugar free.
I make a gallon of kool aid at a time using Splenda. This helps me to get my liquids in.
Maybe take some high Protein Snacks to work and eat those when you are tempted with the carbs.
You can do this!! Many of us have made it through before you. Not easy but doable

It may be worth a shot to see one that specializes in bariatric patients. Maybe ask your surgeon to give you a list of good ones?
Unless your surgeon is like mine and has one on staff?

Have you thought about counseling? It may help you be able to appreciate your achievements and be happier with yourself.

Losingit2018 reacted to GreenTealael in From a Sleeve to a bypass
If you do not have any complications such as GERD, consider asking about DS, SIPS or SADI compared to RNY.
Good Luck 💚

I'm not particularly carb sensitive, but I know from some of those who ARE that if you can go really low-carb for a few days, the cravings for carbs eventually stop. You have to white knuckle it in the mean time, though - I've heard it's hard to get through!!!

Losingit2018 reacted to GreenTealael in Bypass revision for GERD after sleeve
Hi ,
I was coverted at my goal weight to fix GERD. So far it has been resolved from conversion from VSG to RNY. You *can* maintain if you work at it. But above all resolving the medical issues in play was invaluable. Speak with your surgeon to come up with a plan!
Good Luck 💚

Losingit2018 reacted to FluffyChix in Sugar/Sweet Cravings
I'm sorry you are struggling with this. I think it's fairly common?
And I'm gonna (of course) take the other angle on this one. You had this surgery to give you an opportunity to REFRAME how you deal with food and to learn new behaviors and relationships with food. Right?
You didn't get this surgery just so you could take yet, ANOTHER scenic route, meandering towards weight loss. Did you?
Cuz I know I didn't.
When you feed a craving you do a couple things...the biggest one is you behaviorally hard wire that action into your brain through repetition. That makes it even harder to break. And then actually using the substance like sugar makes it even worse. But also, using sugar free stuff STILL lights up your pleasure center and activates insulin (fat storing hormone). So....
My advice would be to break up with it. Get an action plan together. You are in WLM (weight loss mode right now). You need to be lean, mean, and green! Don't cheat. Eat meat! Right? So when you're hungry behaviorally, do something else. Get busy. Make sure you aren't thirsty. Deep breathe. Do relaxation practices. Change things up. Do a puzzle. Color. Do something that engages you creatively rather than passively. Exercise. Take a walk. Drink water!!! Pound the Water down til you can't take another sip. Brush your teeth. Or drink black decaff coffee or decaff black tea unsweetened. NO sweets. Avoid sweets!!! Avoid sweet water, sweet Vitamins, fruit, ANYTHING sweet for now.
If you are wanting to eat at night, then consider adding a small mini meal. Make it only Protein and a tiny bit of healthy fat. Or do a Protein Drink (yes, sigh, they're sweet. that's a b***h.) Eat a hard boiled egg. My rule during WLM was if I wanted to eat I got to eat a hard boiled egg, or a tuna pouch in water, or an ounce of turkey lunch meat rolled up, or a light string cheese. And if I didn't want any of those, then it was head hunger, not real hunger. And my rule was: I don't feed head hunger, that's what got me to the Obesity Ball.
Hope this helps. Nip it in the bud.
Once you hit maintenance you can set up a whole new set of rules to work with your pouch!

Losingit2018 got a reaction from GreenTealael in Bypass revision for GERD after sleeve
I just had this surgery along with hernia repair after sleeve.
I was not at my goal weight at the time of revision but, @GreenTealael may be able to chime in here with info.
Good luck!!

I'm so happy that I found this place.....wahoo.
I am 10 day to my revision
From lab band to sips.
So here's my story an I'm stickin to it lol.
In 2005 I got my LB.
My HW ever was 340
SW 270
LW 215
My CW 232
Because I've been on my per-OP for a week. Last week was 247.8
My first yr out I got to 215
My band was awesome.I had hit the sweet spot an life was amazing. Then in 2017 I got rear ended
at a stop light an it broke my neck in 5 places an my back in two. Plus it tweaked my LB. I had to have it emptied. Never found my sweet spot again.
My weight has bounced all over the place for the last 14 yrs. So I started doing research an decided I needed something with malabsorption. Cuz I really cant eat that much for the pass 8 yrs I have been at 236ish.
I am very grateful for my LB.
It has helped me to never see 340 again. But alas I must move on an get rid of the last 100lbs.

Losingit2018 reacted to Bastian in 3 months post op nausea
So went back to my Gp and got sent straight to hospital because I was tachycardic, which has been an ongoing problem anyway after staying in and lots of bloods being done, they think I have PoTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) so have been started on a cardiac drug and have to go for more tests for a definitive diagnosis. It could well be the cause of the nausea so I guess I shall just have to wait and see!

Losingit2018 reacted to Arabesque in Soft solids
I was surprised originally by the oatmeal when it was on my Dr’s post surgical meal plan but it said to make it on milk (if tolerated) which adds extra Protein. I guess because you can only eat a couple of teaspoonfuls at a time and the fibre helps with the bms it was allowed on my plan. It still takes me four days to eat a a bowl using a sachet lol.

What types of food do you keep on hand? The meatballs are a great idea.

Losingit2018 reacted to Danielleh in Frustration with bariatric team
I got a message today from the nurse at my surgeon's office saying she was reviewing my labs and saw that my B12 is low. So at least I know they're reviewing my chart! They may be slowing reviewing it, but that's the first update in 2 weeks! Fingers crossed I hear something later this week!

Start being a squeaky wheel. Call your team daily. Maybe even nicely let them know that you are getting annoyed having your life put on hold like this.
Seriously call daily for update. Hopefully they will process you just to stop the calls. You are paying for their service so they work for you.

I cook same stuff for family that I am able to eat smaller portions of. I also keep things on hand like good quality meatballs in the freezer. So easy to add sauce and mozzarella cheese for myself. Family can eat the same thing over spaghetti.
Lots of great recipes at Bariatric Foodie that are also family friendly. I made a taco casserole from that site last night. Grandson and husband both loved it.
