I've been watching a LOT of YouTube videos from people who have had the VSG surgery as well as bariatric surgeons. It's cool to watch and see people's transformation over a period of months. Right now I'm especially interested in the videos from people who post their experiences during their surgery and first week post op, since I'll be having VSG on Jan. 11th.
Just curious, what are some of your favorite YouTube VSG channels?
I've learned a lot from a couple of the bariatric surgeons channels - one is Dr. Mathew Weiner and the other is Blossom Bariatrics from Las Vegas; their dietician has some really good videos.

What a ridiculous comment! It's a well known fact that the more you have to lose the faster you lose it. The closer you get to goal the harder it becomes!

Generally women also have a harder time losing weight particularly as we age due to hormonal changes.

that happens to pretty much no one. The mortality rate on gastric bypass is 0.3%. That means you have a 99.7% chance of pulling through just fine. Your odds of survival are better with bypass than they would be with hip replacement surgery.
people have died from having their tonsils out. But seriously, how many people are we talking about? Same with gastric bypass. It's one of the safest surgeries out there. I know it's human nature to worry about surgeries, but you are going to be just fine.
Edited to add that you are more likely to die from obesity-related issues than you are from gastric bypass surgery.

Losingit2018 reacted to John04073 in Revision if you already have a gastric bypass?
I had full RNY bypass in 2005 and lost approximately 80lbs. I was able to keep the weight off consistently for about 10 years until I suddenly lost the “Feeling Full” after meals and the weight started to creep back on. I struggled with almost a constant feeling of being hungry, which I had never had, after the RNY bypass. I returned to my original surgeon to no avail. His feeling was that I must be doing something different and not following the same lifestyle. I was referred to another Bariatric doctor who found a gastric fistula (essentially an opening in the pouch), and via surgery installed a metal clamp (also referred to as a bear paw). While this seemed to help initially, something still was not the same as it had been for the first 10 or so years.
After much research and visiting several other Bariatric Specialists over the last few years, all while the weight slowly continued to increase, it was recently discovered that a portion of my pouch had attached and formed a connection to my original stomach, thus allowing food to be processed by both the new RNY pouch/digestive path as well as the original stomach/digestive path. Also the metal clamp previously installed was missing, and probably passed in the normal digestive process.
This leads me to where I am today, having been informed that the best solution at this point is for a RNY Bypass revision. They will be going in and separating the pouch from the original stomach again, and suturing/stapling both sections off.
I am waiting for the official revision date/insurance approvals etc, but the doctors office does not think it will be an issue at all. Fingers crossed that I will be back on my way to weight loss soon.

    3+ weeks update
Last week I felt too swollen so I went to get checked out. Plenty of testing later it was decided I have two tiny pockets of Fluid (seroma) but they are not nearly big enough to aspirate. The plan is to let them disparate naturally. Ok,cool.
But then I also noticed my belly button is slower healing than everything else (my incisions are completely healed) so through constant communication with my plastics team and hometown intervention it has been suspected that because I had previous hernia repair (with VSG and RNY) the blood supply to the umbilicus is compromised #wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh😭😭😭😭
What this means so far, IDK but my surgeon believes it will heal properly but much slower than anticipated. That reassurance was... reassuring. I'm not bothered as it does not hurt, is not infected etc.
Besides that hiccup it has an amazing aesthetic value 😂 honestly everything has exceeded my expectations and its no big deal since I was prepared for a few speed bumps along the way
So swelling is gradually reducing thanks to wearing compression garments (or divine intervention) but I feel pretty good, like really really good.
The Tatas are no issue in fact they are beautiful and I could not be happier. I'm no longer taking Tylenol because I have no pain (Well ... just stiffness after sleeping laying too long) in fact I went to my niece's baby shower Saturday night. I worked hard and partied harder. I had forgotten I just had surgery when dancing and my boyfriend has to rein me in 😳

I am 5 pounds away from hitting the 100 pound list mark. I had horrible pain I. My knees, hands, elbows and feet from arthritis. I was taking tumeric with bioperine and it worked amazing well for inflammation.
now that I am nearly 100 pounds down, I don’t even need the turmeric anymore!
i t just got cold where I live the past few days. I do feel a little achy in my knees now but nowhere near what it used to be. I am sure that my knees are damaged from carrying so much weight around though. I truly think that I was close to needing one knee replaced before losing the weight. I don’t feel that way anymore.
while you are trying to lose, do yourself a favor and try the turmeric. Just be sure that it has at least 10 mg of bioperine ( black pepper) in it and is 95% curcuminoids. Give it a week ir two of taking daily and you will be amazed what a simple spice can do for inflammation
    Good luck on your journey!!

You should be getting a minimum of 60 grams of Protein your surgeon sounds like a quack! Why would he even do an rny if your only hope was to lose 20 pounds?
you are just in a stall. Increase your protein, continue on your plan and it will break.

    hang in there!

    BREAKING NEWS:
I wore my pre-op jeans yesterday for like 8 hours AND I didn't feel like I was going to bust open the buttons!
Also, I measured my waist this morning, and it is back to my pre-op measurement!! If you remember, I had swelled to +5.5" in that area, yikes.
...I continue, however, to be on lower-belly and upper-thigh watch for any signs swell decrease. Le sigh.

Hello, I am new to this site today. I am 66 yrs, old female. I had my surgery on Oct.29,2019. I have to tell you I am very happy I had my gastric bypass. I am a diabetic and I had high blood pressure. I could not get my sugars under control. Even thou I was taken 4 injections and metformin twice a day. I was on 3 blood pressure pills as well. I have been off all this medicine except my low dose blood pressure pill...My sugar is under control...On top of this, I have lost over 50 pounds. Hooray, All that medicine stopped the day I had my surgery. I still have a way to go but so far so good. It is a very tough journey but I am so glad I am on this trip. Good luck.

I’m al older mother, had my energetic boy at 41. Now 46, hypothyroid, and exhausted all the time I had the sleeve one month ago. I am 21 lbs down in one month, and though I have a ways to go, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. My energy level is better now than in my 20’s, even being far from my goal. Health reasons aside, I want to chase after my son and lead a more active and athletic lifestyle. Best of luck to you in your journey.
