That is one thing I'm most scared about going into surgery. You are very inspirational, and I'm sure you look awesome lol. Thanks for sharing, I feel not so alone on wanting to hide the fact I'm choosing surgery, due to the bad wrap it gets.

I can see your point of view summer set. I have told a few close people I am having WLS just because I need support. I'm sure once I gain more confidence I will tell more people if they ask me, and i trust them, as my weight issues started when I was 2, and I'm now 21. People will surely notice. I guess I just need to build my confidence, and learn that in a way, telling I can try to break so negative stigma, by explaining that it's a tool, and how hard you have to work. For now, I'd rather keep it a secret, as I'm scared I will fail, like every other time. I have hope. I just need to believe in myself more....but as FluffyChix said...to each their own.

I am 5 weeks out and I got some great advice before my surgery, that I will pass along. Stock up you pantry before your surgery, with quick and easy post op foods. I got concentrated Bone Broth so I could make a mug at a time. I got cream of wheat, Triple Zero greek yogurt, Premier Protein shakes, and lots of eggs. I found eggs were my best friends. Also having egg drop Soup delivers from my local Chinese restaurant was a regular event the first few weeks. You will do great!

I've heard the first week or so is super hard. I really believe you can do this! Hold on, and stay in there! From what people have said it's going to be worth it in the long run. I havent have wls yet, I'm due in may....but I've had 6 ankle surgeries from a break when I was 10...still have issues with it. I get the no sleep, on top of the wrenching pains. I hope it gets better for you!

The first week is the toughest in regards to discomfort, but then it’s smooth sailing! I found that for me the biggest challenge is taking small sips and bites of everything that goes in your mouth. It’s just a matter of getting used to. I don’t regret a thing, this surgery is changing my life.

My experience has been quite the opposite of what I was thinking would happen. I was sleeved March 11 and as of this moment in time I am feeling very regretful of my decision to do this. The pain was absolutely horrible. I have slightly managed to get my pain under control, but I only sleep like 2 hours at a time because I am so uncomfortable. Drinking my meals when I am starving is so hard. Compared to most other people on this site, I have a lot of negative feelings about this surgery.

I’m in both camps and it will be situational.

First, I kinda had to tell my coworkers because of so many reasons, most center around the fact that we work in such a fast-paced closed environment that it would flat out be impossible to explain change in eating and drinking habits.
Also, I knew I would need their support and help for the self-care I would need moving forward.
Im a chain-retail pharmacist and we typically work 10-14 hour shifts with zero breaks for either food or bathroom and are going 100mph the whole time we are there. They needed to know that for at least a few months I was gonna need to tone that back a bit.
To have something like WLS and not tell them would be unfathomable because now I actually HAVE to try to eat and drink with some kind of regularity. In the past, we would all purposely dehydrate ourselves so we could get through a whole day without having to go to the bathroom.
    That had to change.

Second, as a health care professional, it’s going to be difficult to flat out lie to my patients once they start asking questions. I mean, don’t I owe it to people to try to get on the path to better health by explaining the pros and cons of WLS?
Now that’s not to say that every jerk that comes through deserves to know: only those who could benefit from the knowledge or who I’ve built a relationship with throughout the years.
Besides, you never know when someone I’m helping could be either contemplating WLS or maybe just had WLS and if there is ANY chance I can help them with anything, it’s my professional duty to help.
I’m also a cancer survivor and I make sure that every patient I come across that has been newly diagnosed knows I’ve “been there, done that” and that I’m available to answer any questions or concerns that they have.
Surely I will need to carry that over to WLS and counsel people if I get the chance.

Now I do have many casual friends that have zero business knowing my business and if any of those people start to say something to me, I’m gonna tell them that I’m doing IF.
LOL, technically that’s what WLS surgery naturally does to you anyway so it’s not technically a lie.

I try to "drink" my emotions away with some sugar-free flavored water or a homemade iced coffee with vanilla Protein in it instead of eating food.

People talk about having no appetite after surgery, so the diet is easier. How are some ways you guys combat emotional eating? This is one thing I worry about. So far I've been doing really well, I'll go draw, or take a walk. I've lost 50lbs since october 2018, and I'm now sitting at 310lbs. I'm doing well, in my eyes, but I would still like to know more ways I can combat this problem.

I recommend books about "normal eating" or "intuitive eating". These books usually deal with emotional eating quite a lot.
Different strategies work for different people.

To each it’s own honestly. I tell ppl about my upcoming surgery. I feel like some people are nosey and some people really are looking for the courage to start their own journey. I am not ashamed whatsoever. This decision takes courage and it isn’t easy. If I can help someone else struggling with their weight I’m all for it. If they just want to be in my business be my guest. Either way I’m healthy & fabulous.

I think everyone is different. Reading all these stories, I certainly have been having a radically different experience from others! I ended up in the hospital for four days because I had an internal bleed and lost a lot of blood. But I didn't take any narcotics on the last day in the hospital or at all when I got home. And only needed Tylenol for like two days. I have not had any nausea or vomiting, very minimal pain, no dumping syndrome, nothing. I also have no appetite so the diet has been fine.

I had super low energy for about a week and a half, but as soon as I got home from the hospital my mom made me start walking. First three days home I walked 3 times 10 minutes, but then she made me do 8 times 10 minutes every day after. Only one or twice was I not able to make it.

I'm feeling a bit shakey and still not 100% on my energy levels and I'm almost 3 weeks post now. But other than that I am super grateful as to how good my recovery has been. All my complications happened in the hospital and it's been smooth sailing since. So know that it's possible!!

Yeah, I'm with you! My surgery is on March 27th, and it is a big deal!! Ive also had a lot of surgeries in my life. Im sorry your last surgery was so complicated. Believe it or not, bariatric surgery is really, really safe these days, and surgons do a lot of them. Nonetheless it is natural to worry a little bit. I really think all will go great for you. You've got this!!
