It's been a great year, and I wouldn't trade it for anything! Down a total of 221 pounds!!

I am concerned about losing too much weight by my surgery date. My BMI is 35.1, so I can only lose 2 pounds or my insurance will not cover my surgery. At my last appointment, my surgical coordinator said that they will weigh me in the hospital the morning of surgery. She said that my BMI will have to be over 35 on that day. I am supposed to do a few days of two Protein Shakes and a small lean Protein dinner before my surgery, so I am hoping not to lose weight.
It is crazy to have to make sure not to lose weight before weight loss surgery!

My date is April 16....congrats! I also will be traveling from where my surgery is to home and then for a family vacation. I know we should be mindful to keep walking as much as we can, stand, etc. I’m planning on making and packing ice cube trays of Soups and what not to freeze and take for my trip and of course Protein Drinks.

Kristinqtpie reacted to logicwand in Breast Lift with Implants
My weight finally stabilized around 145 (original goal weight), so I went forward with surgery for a breast lift with implants (Dr. Ciaravino in Houston is amazing). I lost 72 lbs total after the sleeve but added approximately 1.5 lbs of implants (Mentor MemoryGel Smooth Round High Profile 350cc). I cry when I see these photos side by side. I got sleeved on 2/28/2018 and got these boobs 9 months later on 11/30/2018. What a year.

Its good to ask questions. Many people are told hunger is 100% gone. It’s a great post to help others looking in to surgery. Never be afraid to post. I'm excited for all the things coming your way. You will be on the other side of weight loss soon.

Thank you everyone! Im probably over thinking it as I’ve not even had the surgery yet and already worried. It’s self pay though and I just don’t want to have wasted all that money.

    Hi Kristin,
No, it is not guaranteed. And no, your stomach won't go back to it's pre-surgery size. As it heals, it will have more elasticity but it won't grow.

@Kristinqtpie Congrats on your surgery date.
Only speaking from my experience with the sleeve. I’m almost 5 years out.
Hunger is a different sensation after surgery. First out from surgery your hunger may feel less. Understand that surgery does not take away hunger 100%. You will still experience it. Hunger is more manageable post-surgery. You will have a new sensation of full. You will learn to manage real and head hunger.
What sleeves should know as you progress out.
Our pouches are banana shaped. (Other surgeries are egg shaped) Expect that your restriction will become less over time. ( It has not grown back to full size) You are not doomed to gain weight. Many mistake less restriction with stretching (Stretching is rare. Get it diagnosed by your surgeon)
With your extra stomach room, there is no reason to eat extra calories and gain weight. You can still eat food without going over your weight loss/maintaining calories. Many of us are willing to share strategies to help with hunger and extra sleeve room.
Grazing / eating around your surgery can happen to any type of bariatric procedure. Eating small meals frequently that total over your weight loss calories and macros. This can be in a combination of healthy and unhealthy foods. The sensation is as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight.
Many of us fear weight gain. Work your plan. Dont be afraid to ask for help if you do experience a gain.
    Best of luck to you,
    Jenn

*Bursts in* Am I late? No? Whew...
I prefer the Greekest (I said it) of yogurts. Usually plain 0% fat very high Protein like Chobani, Fage Stoneyfield Farms or even store brand. I choose these because they are highly customizable and can be used for cooking also.
I eat a lot of yogurt. All around the world too, but always the purest plainest I can get.
    Good luck 💟

Kristinqtpie reacted to Screwballski in Has anyone on here been a “low” BMI OF 30?
    I think you’re looking for me! 😀
I had my lap band revision in May. My BMI was 30. No one understood why, if I could lose 30-40 pounds in a couple of months anytime I wanted to, I’d ever need to have a sleeve after I got my broken band removed. I didn’t bother explaining it was because it was terrified my life would continue to be me losing 30 pounds, gaining 40, losing 50, gaining 55, losing...gaining...you know the drill.
My band was bad for over a decade so the gaining/losing game was all me. The wear and tear...it was enough.
If you are young and you think this is for you, do it while your BMI is low and your skin can bounce back. I’m 53 and my skin has had it with me. I was once over a hundred pounds heavier than I am now and it shows on my inner thighs and on my arms.
If you’re not so young and it’s what your heart wants...go for it. The heck with everything else!
I was treated wonderfully. The surgery was simple for me. No pain. I was right on my feet. I didn’t require help for much. They treated me like gold and one of the overnight staff cut a star out of gold felt and taped it to my gown for being so laid back and independent on a night when 1/3 of staff called out of work! (So I sure wasn’t discriminated against because of my smaller size!)
You can ask me anything along you surgery path. I’m an open book. 🙂😉

I had mine on 2/21. I did push out my departure by a day and left Sunday instead of Saturday. All of us that were there had successful procedures, one lady was admitted to hospital for inpatient surgery after her endoscopy revealed it would need to be an open, not laparoscopic procedure, so they are prepared with hospital care if needed. I also had a hiatal hernia repair so I had a little sub sternal pain (also, I’m allergic to Toradol so I had slightly less pain meds than everyone else but it was manageable)
Drs and nurses were great. The pre op testing is super thorough. I liked the hotel and the transportation as a nice touch. Not having to rent a car reduced the stress and there is a Walmart a walkable distance from the hotel to grab supplies if needed. We ubered to the strip once or twice to check things out before surgery and it was affordable. Good luck !!

Hey April friends! Is there anything someone has read that is a must have post op or for the hospital? I’m so excited and looking to pack my bag/get my liquids ready. I’m debating on unflavored Protein to add to broths or to just buy protein Soups. Thoughts!
