Please help my surgery is Monday and I am still unsure which procedure is better for me. I have a failed lapband, BMI of 33.2, CW 189. I read the forums how sleeve patients usually regain after years and go back for revision. However is MGB to invasive for my weight loss. I don’t want to lose to much. Please help me decide. More heads and opinions are better than one :)

My surgery is March 11 and I am very nervous about the gas pain. Like you, I've read tons about it here in the forums. I mean my 2nd baby was an emergency c section and I survived that. How hard could this be? Lol.

Revisions can happen with any type of surgery for many reasons.
Many of us with the sleeve have lost the weight and kept it off with no revision. I'm almost five years out I maintain in the 130's. Understand not many vets stay. Life becomes normal they maintain their weight and have no need for this site. You will meet mostly new people and people that gain.
What I wish people knew before choosing the sleeve:
If you have issues keeping on a diet plan and changing behaviors, I would look into another type of surgery
Sleeves usually can tolerate sugar no dumping syndrome because our intestines are not rerouted. If sugar is an weakness you may want to go for MGB
When you get to maintaining phase don’t think the work is over. Not everyone will gain. But if you don’t monitor your weight and diet it can turn into a 20, 60 100 pound gain.
This is what I see repeatedly with sleeve patient on this site: Frustrates me that they are not told this pre surgery.
Sleeve restriction becomes less as you progress out from surgery (your stomach is not back to full size) Our pouches are banana shape the other surgeries are egg shape. Just because you can consume more food does not mean you need to over eat. You can fill the space without going over your calories and macros
Many confuse less restriction with stretching (stretching is rare, have a surgeon diagnose it) Many eat around their surgery (you can eat around/graze any type of surgery ) Grazing is eating many smaller meals, healthy and unhealthy that total over your calories and macros. It’s the sensation of no restriction. It’s as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight.
Bariatric surgery is not the easy way out. Its far more than restriction. Its work.

How r my Marchees doing?! I am approaching my surgery date on 3/11 n question myself everyday if this is the correct path? Not going to lie I’m shitting bricks! Surprisingly the preop diet isn’t that bad, I can’t wait to eat at dinner. How did u know the MGB/GBP was the right route vs the sleeve? My BMI is 33

Hi! Just wondering if there was a follow up to this? Did you have your surgery? Did you decide to wait? My stats and story are similar to yours and I just feel I'm drowning every day that I am not proactive in making this decision.

Can I ask why you don’t have your band removed here in the states since it was put in here?

I revised Band to Sleeve this month. I had my band removed in December 2016 and I really wish I had done the revision surgery a year before I did. I just got my sleeve 3 weeks ago. It's really hard to keep the weight off once the band is removed. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't do it. I gained about 2/3 of the weight I had lost with the band back in 2 years.

Good luck! I know feeling like you have to start over again with another surgery is really hard but you've got this.

I revised from band to bypass on 17/01/19. I have lost 7kg so far and am now back in the healthy weigh range. You don’t have to have a high BMI when you are revising because of complications.
Im really happy with my decision so far

I would say if you are steady in weight that you might not want to do this? I don't know your BMI but in the Netherlands the minimum for a gastric bypass/sleeve is 35 with co-morbidities or 40 without. If your lap band is giving you problems, you can consider it, but I wouldn't expect too much weight loss after? Good luck either way

I had lapband in 2012 and had it removed and went to gastric bypass on 2/15/19. I weighed 201 when i had surgery. I personally think it was the right choice for me because I know i would just gain and gain. The bypass forces me to eat healthier. So far I think it was best. But thats my personal opinion.

I also had a lap band years ago. It did not work at all. I had it removed just 2 years after it was put in. I had RNY bypass In Sept 2018. I am down about 60 lbs and I don't regret any of it at all. I feel great. My husband feels like he has his wife back. My weight was killing me I could do almost nothing. I was exhausted, depressed and hated myself. Things are so much better
