I totally understand! I’ve just finished all my appointments and waiting on approval as well I have not told anyone other than my spouse who wishes I would not go through with surgery however supports my decision. Personally I’m just going by the day. It’s no need to tell anyone if I’m not approved right lol? When it comes down to it, it’s your personal information! If you feel like sharing great! If you don’t great! Most of all you have to do what’s best for you! After all we are all just trying to live a better healthier life. Good luck to you on your journey & many blessings!

    UHi there - good questions!
I started with a goal of dropping from 235lbs to about 175lbs - I previously had a working gastric band and had happily maintained 175lbs so it seemed like a good goal.
That took exactly 4 months - so I lost 60lbs in 4 months. So I reset my goal to 156lbs - the BMI ‘Not Obese’ weight. That seemed like a fond dream, but one I wouldn’t make. I hit that goal about 2 months later. So, 80lbs in 6 months.
I have left that as my goal, but around this same time I decided to take up running - not huge distances, I did the Couch2 5k (3 miles) challenge. I also got gallstones, had my gallbladder out. Anyway I have since lost another 20lbs, which took 3 months. So - 9 months to lose 100lbs
I have now been stable at 134-136 for a bit over 3 months. It does take discipline to
    a) be happy to stop losing (after 9 months of the addictive high losing nearly every day gives you!) and
    b) to get my Protein in every day, and
    c) to avoid rubbishy ‘old me’ sweets, chips. I have a very small treat most days but cravings for carbs start up really easily and it takes another week or two of being out of sorts and irritable to wrestle them away again.
My surgeon’s ONLY rule for eating post surgery - three meals a day, no Snacks.
More info than you asked for but I hope it helps!

You sound like me! I thought I had wrote it. I'm going to be 6 yrs older than you on the 14th. and that's when I knew you could be a sister from another mother. I have no regrets so far. I wish I had done it years ago to really be enjoying it to the fullest now. Now it's not easy and you follow the rules closely because you loose the most weight in the beginning. We are all different here and hit things at different times. But we all get on the loosing bench and will be wearing our sexy dress out....even if it's just to the grocery store. Welcome!!!

I'm 15 days out from surgery. I understand you feeling scared, because honestly I am too. Im not so much worried about the surgery, but about the food aspect as well. But, like you I have many ailments and a cheeseburger or doughnut is no longer worth being fat. Oh, and I'm 53! So, it's ok to still start your journey at your age. I've seen people in their 60's or 70's. Good luck!

I just had the sleeve done 8 weeks ago and I'm 54 years old. It's never too late. And it's definitely a change of eating patterns and habits as you can only eat such a very small amount, about 2 oz at a time, but you eat about every 3 hours. I eat around 800 calories/day. Good luck with your decision.

Gabrielle1, these boards are great for advise, venting, saying what's on your mind etc. I've found answers to questions I've had by reading the different forums. There are many people here who've started their journey over 50 years old. Improving your health has no age limit. Welcome and good luck to you.

I'm brand new here and new to the world of wls in general. I'm reading a lot of posts from other people here and everyone seems so young. I'm 50. For most of my adult life I've been overweight. Not "omg I can't believe the size of her" overweight. But, hovering around the 190 mark since my late 20s. In my early 20s I weighed 110 and I loved it. Everything about it. The shopping, the dating, the attention. But eventually I settled down and it seemed like one minute later I was up to 165. I wasn't ever able to lose it again. And my 30s and 40s were a battle to just stay under 200 I'm only 5'3" I also had the biggest boobs that were ever naturally created. 10 years ago I had them reduced. It changed my entire outlook. I had the confidence of my 20's again. I also lost some weight and felt amazing. Then I started getting diagnosed with all these ailments. High bp.… thyroid problems, I've been on Migraine meds forever.... My weight won't budge. Only low low carb or Jenny craig works. I can't afford Jenny indefinitely. And I stall at the 20 lb. mark. And I need some carbs...I end up eating to much meat because I'm hungry and I know I can eat it and not gain weight on the low, low carb. I can't do that anymore.
I think I could do it the right way with this surgery. I am up to 223lbs. I hate what I've turned into. And the fact that most of the time I've really been trying to lose. I know this is only a tool. It will help me to not be hungry all the time (HOPEFULLY) I will have support. I will have to learn to eat again. I think this is the only thing that will get me down to a reasonable weight and help me stay there. I mostly want to be healthy and feel good about me again. I have a couple of major worries. One is when people say you won't ever enjoy eating again. food will just be fuel. That makes me sad. I work in the music industry. So I go out a lot. I don't drink at all. I don't do any rec. drugs. getting a big Caesar salad w some croutons in it was my idea of partying. But everything in it's time. I just hope I don't chicken (Yes I like chicken in my Caesar Salad) out. Hope this wasn't too long!

Friends and family just can't understand and sometimes they're judgmental. That's why these forums are so helpful to interact with people who are going through the same things you're going through and can relate.

binfinite reacted to KT1981 in A terrifying and hilarious NSV
First, let me say that this week I got my first, "I didn't recognize you!" from a coworker I hadn't seen since before the surgery. (I could tell something was weird because she was acting oddly shady toward me during the first part of the meeting, and then suddenly became normal several minutes later. Must have been when she put 2 and 2 together.)
Anyway, on to the terrifying and hilarious NSV. So I'm walking rapidly down this long, empty hall at work and focused on the door all the way at the other end. I'm trying to take a quick bathroom break and I don't have a lot of time. I kinda glanced down to check my path ahead of me (since I'd previously been focused on the door and not watching where I was walking) and as I glanced down I suddenly saw something scurry around my feet. We've been known to have the occasional mouse in the building and I live in the midwest where it has been bitterly cold, which can push critters inside. Naturally, I freak out and do a little jig and start looking around, but I see nothing.
I'm not sticking around to meet a mouse if I don't have to, so I start power walking to the door/end of the hallway and I see it scurry by my feet AGAIN! Suddenly, before the panic set in, a realization set in and I test my theory by walking slowly at first, then faster. Yep. It's my own feet. I can now see my own feet when I walk because my stomach has shrunk in size. No mice. Just my own damn feet. 🤣

Needless to say it’s been a busy, long day! 1 more appointment left for the psychiatrist on 2/6/19 and then to submit to insurance. Omg I so pray this goes through! My out of pocket has already been crazy!
