    Whom did/will you tell?

My husband and a couple of close friends knew but I didn't tell my parents or other family until afterwards. My brother in New Hampshire still doesn't know and my coworkers still don't know. Tell who you feel comfortable telling. It's your body, your life...good luck!!

    Gurgling sounds

I only gurgle when my esophagus is inflammed. I have had really bad reflux disease for years and the band made it worse so gurgling is common for me. It's not a good sign but it happens. I have to stay away from garlic, onions, peppers and spicy foods (which sux) to keep it calmer. Also if I forget to chew well it will aggravate it. Keeping a log/journal and taking stomach meds helps.
  3. That's so nice of you!! I like the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies book. It has a lot of info and I think it's thoughtfulfor someone that has had or is having any WLS. I got it for someone getting the LB surgery this fall and they love it. Gift cards are ALWAYS great!! I'm sure she'll appreciate anything from you since you're so thoughtful!!!

    newbie here!!!

I hear ya!! I was banded April 28th. Having some probs but I'm still glad that I did it. I am scheduled for another fill on the 23rd. I am planning to get a very small fill. I think they put too much in the first time and caused way too many problems for me including exaccerbating my reflux disease. I'm not giving up though!!! 13 more days til my fill.....we'll all find our sweet spot someday.....

    first post...yayyy

I had a fill and an unfill so far without any numbing injections and I was fine. No pain. The gas pain after surgery was the worst. Stock up on GasX thin strips now - good luck!!!!!
  6. I planned for 2 weeks but needed 3 1/2 but I had other medical stuff going on. My friend planned 2 weeks but said she could've gone back after 1 1/2 but stayed home the full 2 weeks. Everyone's different but I would take as much time off as you can!! Lots of luck to you!!

I like the team analogy....thanks for the encouragement

    fill. unfill update, too tight.

I hear ya...I had to have a total unfill in the ER cuz not only was something stuck but the GERD (reflux disease) gave me esophagitis and everything was swollen. It was very upsetting. I'm very frustrated cuz I can't have a another fill for a few weeks and I'm really hungry. But I want to start over and not be so tight. That sliming and puking was gross!! They want the swelling to go down first so my Prevacid was doubled and I have to wait....it sux!!! :tt2:

    Help requested re fill, tightness

Sounds like you're not eating enough!! That's not healthy. I would get a small "unfill" and see how it goes from there. You need to get some protein down breakfast lunch and dinner. I was too tight, had major problems, got a full unfill and now I'm starting all over again. Good luck!!

    I'm wasting money peoples!

I do the same thing. It's frustrating!! And it doesn't help that my slightly overweight AND diabetic husband picks at my plate cuz I leave so much behind!!! ugh

Prayers needed for a fellow bandster

My prayers are with you Joan. God speed!!!
  12. For at least 8 years I had severe reflux before the band. I was warned that the band may make reflux worse. For me it did get worse, with a trip to the ER recently for a total unfill but they doubled my meds and now I feel much better!! Talk to your regular MD and your surgeon. It's good to see what both say. I'm lucky that my regular MD was a GI specialist when he was younger. Good luck!!

I am begging everyone and anyone to help!

My friend who was banded in January drinks with every meal and she lost 70 LBS so far. She just tries not to drink too much at meal time as it makes her hungrier sooner. I sip a drink if the meal is in the dry side. Sometimes you need liquid with the meal!!!

    This does get better right?

It definitely gets better! Post op for me the port made itself known but the gas pains were the worst. I took sips of water, used up ALL of my pain meds, walked around AND slept and I used GasX. That all helped me get through. I didn't feel better until about the 8th day and some days are better that others. Hang in there!!

    Which band is pre-filled?

I only found out recently that they put 1.5 cc in my Lapband during surgery. They said it mostly fills the port tubing. I had my first fill of 4.5 cc June 11th. I needed an unfill last week and I thought it would be 4.5 coming out but they pulled out 6 cc. They told me it's mostly in the tubing when they fill you during surgery.

Overall good. Challenging, has it's ups and downs like anything else. It's definitely a learning process. Stick close to those in the know of WLS. Every little tip / advise helps. Lots of luck with your surgery!!

    I'm a Newbie!

Not exactly sure since I only weigh myself at the surgeon's office but I think it's about 20 LBS??

    I'm a Newbie!

Hey Newbie I'm a semi-newbie. 2 months post op. I had the trots for at least 3 1/2 weeks after surgery and still have it when I eat mushies or anything pureed. I do much better on solid food. Be patient and drink as much water as you can. You'll get there - lots of luck to you!! Donna

Anything that I made for my husband I ate too. It's just that my portion went into the food processor. I had trouble with eggs in the beginning but I will try them again this week. I can probably handle them now since I can eat anything now!! I always love creamy tomato soup with ricotta cheese in it. I sprinkle a teeny bit of grated parm on top - yum! Try some tofu or hummus. There are great recipes online and sometimes on the packages. Just throw it in the food processor after! My favorite mushie is fat free refried beans mixed in the food processor with lean deli ham.

It's just going to take lots and lots of practice and from what I've been reading here we ALL falter from time to time. We have to try to not be too hard on ourselves as well. We are changing years of old habits and it will take some time. With the food, everyone is different. I haven't puked (yet) but first fill is the 11th. I have had some nausea/discomfort though. My friend who got the Lapband in January can eat ANYTHING!! I think I might be better off having a list of things that I can't eat like rice and pasta. I need to get more protein in anyway!! One step at a time....

Exactly Becky!! It's a learning process. I had the opportunity to have lunch out with my husband today and I ate WAY TOO much!! I can eat almost anything at this point. The stoma seems WIDE open!! I get a fill on the 11th. Right now, at 10PM, I still feel like crap from the over eating episode. SO I regret it and will try hard not to do it again! We live and learn!! I know there's a lot in my head that I have to get through. It is a struggle. I wish they did surgery on the brain at the same time that they did the Lapband!! :w00t: Gwenn, in my program we have to be on Prevacid for the rest of our lives. It helps me so much!! I had heartburn, GERD, gastritis and esophageal problems before the surgery. Now since I've been on the Prevacid I haven't had heartburn or anything else. I think it's going to take time to feel much better. Right now, I'm eating all kinds of foods with no problems and I still don't feel like I have enough energy. I think it will all just take time and effort. Hang in there!! :tt2:

Can't wait to try that brownie recipe - thanks! What helped me get through was taking a can of fat free refried beans and throwing it into a blender or food processor with lean, reduced sodium deli ham and a little water. Even my husband said it was tasty!
