Hi everyone, I had my sleeve done on 1/28/22. This is my first post, but I have been lurking for a few weeks. Right now I’m on stage 3 of the diet — I’ve starting eating puréed veggies, ricotta cheese, etc (can’t bring myself to purée any meats 🤢). I also made a big batch of roasted Tomato Soup and I’ve been eating that for dinner. I’m not hungry ever, which I know is typical. But I also don’t really notice ever feeling very full, like so many people tend to. It’s making me nervous, because I know eventually the hunger comes back, and that feeling of quick fullness was what I was banking on. I stop myself at what I think are appropriate portions (like for Breakfast I had 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, felt fine, but stopped eating because I didn’t want to overdo it).
I called the nutritionist at my surgeon’s office when I was still on stage 2; she told me that because I was still basically on liquids that I wouldn’t start to feel the fullness until more solids were introduced. I thought maybe getting to stage 3 I would start to feel that, but still haven’t. Has anyone else experienced that? I’m about 3 weeks out and I’m already nervous that this is all eventually going to be for nothing. I seem to be losing at an OK pace; I thought it would be quicker but I guess it’s on track, since my surgery I’ve lost 11 lbs, and 38 lbs in total since I started trying pre-op. Anyway, thanks for reading, any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hello Everyone,
I am new here and am pre-op. I have been working with my bariatric team for about a yr or so no give or take and looking forward to getting the hopeful green light for surgery. It has been a wild and crazy journey to say the least but I am so excited to be on it. My whole thing is trying to figure out what is the best to staying motivated working out.
So, a little back story on this. I have had a few injuries over the yrs. I had and ACL injury in my 20s and a neck injury in my early teens. I have been able to go to the gym for a max time of an hr lately (which is about 1x a week or 2x a week). Sadly I feel like I have lost motivation because despite feeling goo while at the gym and so proud of myself I ended up getting the worst Migraine and neck pain of my life since I had worked on my shoulders and back muscles that day. Needless to say this has made me a little unsure about going back due to the pain and a reward for the hydro beds at the end. But if I don't my team is worried I cant maintain it when surgery is over. I feel so stuck. I also feel stuck because PT therapy walking was ok as long as it was 30 minute min. a day but my psychologist wanted more like 150 minutes a week and weights then recanted.
(ugh sorry I am rambling and all over. Please be patient with me it is 1:30 am here)
I guess long story short here I am wondering:
    1) What were you recommended from your teams?
    2) What work outs work for you?
    3) What keeps you motivated?
    4) and if you have an injury, disability or pain what do you do to overcome fears at the gym with it?
    Thank you.
    Have a good one,
    Destiny

Injections? I was never told to get injections. I was told to take a B12 supplement.

I don't remember doing pureed. I think I did liquids for 3 weeks then to soft foods and regular foods. I still drink Protein Shakes.

I wouldn't look at the scale for a while. Your body is still healing from a major surgery. It's going to fluctuate with your liquids and divert energy to healing. Wait at least a month before you weigh in order to keep your sanity.

You might benefit from talking to a therapist about your worries so he/she can get you to set realistic views of yourself and eating from this point forward.

I treated myself with trips/vacations. Able to fit in a standard airplane seat. Able to walk around excursions and hiking. Able to fit in a swimsuit. It was a win/win.

You will probably get better advice here on post-op diet, calories, macros, etc. than in your surgeon's office it sounds like. Go through the threads here and you'll find lots of info. Feel free to ask any questions and we're here to help, support and encourage you. You sound like you've done fine weight-wise. Don't know why you're still having Constipation issues. I was lucky and never had those problems.

No, you don't end up throwing up for life. Definitely for the first 36 hours post-surgery due to anesthesia. Possibly once or twice throwing up the "foamies" (mucus, bile, not food) if you eat something your stomach doesn't agree with. I eat meat all the time. No problem. But I still can't eat soft tortillas. That's okay with me.

I am a sweets lover too and I can still have them post-sleeve, but not the whole bag or box or carton, just a reasonable serving size as per the container. Either surgery has its own set of pros and cons. I had the sleeve. I don't have a Vitamin absorption problem and don't have to take Vitamins or supplements. I wish you luck and success in your WLS journey.

It depends on what your goals are. To improve your health overall or become a supermodel. 😀 I don't know what your current size is, but 60 pounds is a good way toward a healthier life, less weight on your joints, and so forth. Ultimately only you can decide what's worth it for you. It's not a magic bullet, it's just a tool, not a solution.

Old habits die hard. You're not going to like my answer, but you probably need to talk to the therapist at your surgeon's office to discuss why you're going back to these habits, how to get rid of these habits, etc. You know what to eat and what not to eat, the key is doing it.

What's the old saying, "Everything in moderation." You shouldn't have to eliminate any foods or treats from your diet as long as you keep them in moderation.

GradyCat got a reaction from Tomo in This Might Be My New Favorite Protein Shake
For many years I've been drinking premade GNC Lean shakes 25 g Protein in Swiss chocolate flavor. They're my Breakfast every morning. Then I saw a YouTube video of a girl doing WW like I am and she used Fairlife Protein Shakes. I saw that they were slightly smaller bottles but my interest perked up when I saw they had 30 g of protein. Also, GNC Shakes are about $2.48 apiece while the Fairlife shakes are about $1.74 apiece, so I thought I'd give them a try. My go-to flavor is chocolate, so I tried the chocolate first, but it tasted watered down and not as creamy as the GNC shake. Then I tried the vanilla. Heaven! So rich and creamy and a wonderful vanilla taste. This might be my new preferred breakfast.

Believe it or not, we all got cold feet right before the surgery. It's a natural thing to be scared about being put under anesthesia and any complications. If you weren't worried, we'd be worried about you. 😀 But take comfort from the thousands of us here on these forums who survived and thrived after WLS and are here to share our experiences and information with you.
Take some deep breaths. Try to get some sleep tonight before your surgery tomorrow. It'll be a rough couple of days after surgery, no doubt, but a month from now you'll realize how much worthy it was to do.

There aren't any off-limit foods, it's just about eating what's best for you and what your body will tolerate and making the best food choices focusing on Protein first.
