What to pack
You won't need much. I brought pajamas but never needed them; stayed in hospital gown. Mostly chapstick, comfy clothes to ride home in, and phone charger and phone.

Do you get hunger headaches post-op?
No, I haven't had any headaches post-op 4 months. Whew!

Incision sites
I had 5 incisions that they used dermabond on to seal them (no strips, no glue, no staples, no stitches). I'm 4 months post-op and they're still visible but fading nicely because I use Bio-Oil on them daily. They should be invisible by the end of the year.

Did your surgeon want you to lose weight before you got surgery
No, my BMI was barely 40 and I weighed 235 pounds, so there was no suggestion of losing weight before surgery.

Trouble with soft foods
Yes, it's normal, it's all an adjustment when you first transition from one phase to the next. It'll happen too when you go to solid foods. Hang in there.

I Got The "Foamies" Today
Shortly after my sleeve almost 4 months ago, when I first started eating solid food, I got "the foamies" where I would get an uncomfortable rolling cramping feeling in my stomach and have to throw up foamy mucus. I learned about "the foamies" here on BariatricPal and knew it meant I was trying to eat a food that I wasn't yet able to tolerate, like soft tortillas or steak. But today I was just having salmon, which I've had a dozen times since surgery without incident. Maybe I ate too fast? What causes you have to have "the foamies?"

Nights spent in the hospital after sleeve surgery?
I was in the hospital two nights. One the day of surgery and the following night as well. I had zero pain at all. No, you can't lift more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks post-surgery.

Popping Tag Wednesday!!
And it's fun buying new clothes in new smaller sizes!

Bloating after 4 months?
That's weird. I will hit 4 months post-op sleeve next week and just started experiencing the same thing this last week. It didn't happen up until now but it just started happening. I thought I was imagining things.

Special item? Surgery token?
That sounds like a good idea. I haven't decided what my "reward" is going to be when I reach goal weight.

Incision site
I'm using Bio-Oil on mine and it keeps them lubricated and so they don't itch and also it'll minimize the scarring.

Only lost 4 lbs in 6 days on pre op diet
Dude, you lost 4 pounds in 6 days! Be happy! That's fine, go with it. Good luck with your surgery.

What's Your Caloric Sweet Spot?
I am 3.5 months post-op and tinkering with the same thing. I find I'm losing more weight at 600 calories than I am at 800 calories, so I'm trying really hard to stay at the lower end of the range.

No More CPAP For Me!
I'm so excited, I'm doing the happy dance! I just got a message from my pulmonologist's office letting me know the results of my in-home sleep study last week. I've had Obstructive Sleep Apnea for 3 years and using a CPAP. I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/11/18 and have lost 35 pounds since surgery/50 pounds overall and so I felt like maybe I no longer needed the CPAP. She said the results are that I NO LONGER NEED A CPAP! I don't have to sleep with that thing strapped to my face anymore! The weight loss did it! Now this one deserves a happy dance too, but I didn't get an exciting phone call about it . . . I also no longer have GERD since my sleeve surgery 3.5 months ago! I've had GERD for 10+ years and had it pretty bad in the first couple of weeks after surgery, but now it's gone away completely. Woo-Hoo! Woot-Woot! ?

What, you had NO surgery complications?
Going on 4 months post-op and no complications. Surgery went fine. No pain after surgery. Nausea limited to the first day post-op. No problems getting my protein in, swallowing water, sleeping, nothing. Happy camper here!

I am in big trouble now!!!!
You can just have it rescheduled for two weeks later.

Pre-op day 1/50
You can do it!

Fear of being hungry, and RNY success
Hunger is different after the surgery. It's more in control. It's not as strong.

Protein chips
They've been a God-send for allowing me to have some crunch and feel like I'm "cheating." I like the cheese-flavored ones and also the BBQ ones.

Weight lost stall after 9 months
60 pounds is a great weight loss! Keep in mind that you are only going to lose 70% of your excess weight and it hasn't even been a year yet. They target 18 months for full weight loss.

One day until Surgery jitters
Good luck, you'll do fine, see you on the thinner side!

Vacation advice
I took a two week cruise 2 months post-op and just made serious choices and conscious decisions on what to eat at meals. I don't drink alcohol, so that wasn't a problem, but I read that if you do drink alcohol you have to be careful because with our smaller stomachs it'll get us drunker faster.

Family driving me crazy!!!
Hang in there.

Pumping Stomach full of air?
You still need to do the pre-op diet to make sure your liver isn't enlarged prior to surgery. Yes, they pump in "air" to expand your stomach so they can reach things, but your liver still needs to be in good shape for the surgery. You'll release gas within the couple of days post-op and your stomach will deflate. It's no big deal. They do it with every laparoscopic surgery. It's normal. I had it too.
