CyndieRI reacted to ABawdyMermaid in I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with Christmas going to be a little strange around table sipping on my protein shake..This to will pass
This is pretty spot on to how I feel! I can't enjoy the food for this holiday, and that is upsetting for someone who always has, especially given I have an unfortunate addiction to food. Like many people, my 'tradition' has always been to gather with friends/family and have a nice meal, and this is (in my opinion) one of the hardest times of the year to go through a long pre-op diet. Even so, I am determined to see it through no matter what.

I never mentioned at any point that I can't/won't enjoy it with family, or that I'm not grateful for getting the surgery. (This is more for @FluffyChix 's response.)

But neither am I going to sit here and proclaim that boiled beets and Protein drinks are a fantastic holiday meal, lol.

From about 3 1/2 to 7 weeks I was in a very frustrating stall. Then in 1 week I lost 10 lbs and I continue to lost (but not at 10lbs a week - unfortunately!!). Just keep doing what you are doing and know that this is 100% normal!!

My family lives in Texas and i live in Maryland. Back in xmas 2017 i told them i was going to go through WLS. I had to explain what it was about, but i guess they thought.."she wont do it".. Mom,Dad, brother were scared , sister in law, husband and few others very supportive.
I just came to Texas yesterday for xmas and at 5 months post op my fam are blown away.
I showed them my xmas pic from 2017at 298lbs and they are shocked with the difference. I am currently at 224 lbs and I tell them im just getting started and i feel great.
Now about food..lol yes mom is cooking away..meal after meal but i am focused and i only serve my small portions and very selective on what i can eat, I talk more than i eat when before i was the quiet one eating while every one was talking and prob reaching out for a second plate.
Merry Christmas everyone lets stay focused. We can do this!

I think it is totally normal to be bummed that you can't enjoy those delicious favorites, especially if you are on liquids and are drinking a carton of RTD nastiness and can't even have solids. It didn't keep them from making the right decision and having the surgery at this especially difficult time of the year, and they aren't disregarding their plan to indulge. They just feel a little crappy, and that's ok.

I’m 52 and was sleeved on 10/10/18. I’m probably losing slower than younger people but I really don’t compare. I’m just happy I’m losing!! Last week I finally hit the 200’s for the first time in FOREVER and I feel awesome! My surgery weight was 327 (highest was 365) and currently 295!

Hi guys, I am having terrible Constipation issues and was wondering if any of you have tried something that works.
I have tried aloe, Fiber, Miralax and they work until they didn’t.
It’s been 8 days since I’ve been to the bathroom and my belly is very bloated at this point.
I am considering taking a ducolax but am not sure if it’s a good idea as it might make me dehydrated. Any tips are more than welcome 🙏

CyndieRI reacted to Orchids&Dragons in Let the lying begin . . .
In general, I have been very honest with people about my surgery. I didn't broadcast it on social media but if anyone asked me, I answered truthfully. That way I didn't need to keep track of who I told what, kwim? (My choice, you can all choose for yourselves.) However, now that I am close to goal weight, people have started asking if I intend to lose any more weight, and then promptly tell me not to. Believe me, I am nowhere near anorexic. I'm still a solid size 14 in most clothes. I think their perception is the "difference" in my weight, not in the physical reality of what I weigh now.
Anyway, my truthful time is over. When they ask, I'm just going to say "Nope, I think I'm good." Then I'll proceed to do whatever the heck I want to do anyway. Sort of like being a teenager again. I doubt anyone but me (and probably hubby) will actually notice if I lose another 5-10 pounds but the subject is not up for public debate, especially with people who want to tell me how bad I'll look.

You are in the thick of it right now. Sore, in pain, unable to eat. Yes, this part is bad! No doubt about it. But each day gets easier, just take it one step at a time. Your body needs a full 6 weeks to heal. Now is not the time to be thinking about another surgery. Allow your mind and body time to make peace with what has been done. Trust me, it gets so much better! -91 lbs, surgery was done on July 10th : )

    Complications from obesity include
    High blood pressure
Increased risk of stroke and heart attack
    Diabetes
    Increased risk of cancer
    Joint issues
    Back problems
    Just to name a few.

Reversals are only done under extreme circumstances for reasons of medical necessity.
When was your surgery. Anaesthesia can cause a person to have all sorts of emotional swings.
Once you start healing and losing you will look back at this and laugh.
Long term serious complications are far more rare than the complications from being obese. Take your Vitamins, follow your drs recommendations, eat what you are supposed to and you will be fine.

At day 3 I was definitely still nauseous and having dry heaves. By the end of the first week I was feeling better, but I remember the first few days really regretting what I had done to myself! It will get better, I promise! Do you have any sugar free popsicles? That was how I survived week #1. Good luck!!

Congratulations on your 86lb loss!! I had my surgery 10/10 - only 1 day apart from you!! Don’t stress about your stall. I had a 3 week one - and then lost 10lbs the next week! It’s so odd how our bodies adjust to the surgery!! I totally agree with your non scale victories! That could have been written by me (except maybe not the running part - LOL!)

I’m 10 weeks out and had a few bites of sirloin this week and it was very tender and went down fine. Most times I have trouble with chicken. Every one is different! (Unfortunately I don’t like seafood since that seems to be the one thing almost everyone can eat!)

As of today, I am obese. Normally, the knowledge of being obese is pretty distressing, but pre-op, I was "Morbidly Obese", then I scaled down to "Severely Obese". As of today, I am merely "Obese. The next hurdle is to get to merely "Overweight", and hopefully, someday, "Healthy Weight". So yay for being obese, LOL.

CyndieRI reacted to Not So Big Bubba in My Hospital Closed.
So I called to schedule an appt the other day since I had to reschedule for a family emergency. I was then advised that the hospital where I had my surgery and where my surgeons office was located is closing. Just shutting the doors. My Dr has to find a new home. My nutritionist is in the same boat. And here I am , trying to figure out wtf I am supposed to do with my ongoing journey. And on top of it the hospital that was supposed to be there for me has thrown me to the bookkeepers. PAY NOW. WTF. Your facility is no longer providing me with the support I need to get through this. I feel like that is part of the deal. Now I need to find another place to get me through this. And really what surgeon is going to take me on for continuing care if he knows the big money is done. And what if something comes up? Damnit.

I don’t think I could tolerate it that soon, but steak is not an unhealthy food, it has tons of Protein and if he is getting a doggie bag, he seems to be following the plan, no? He’s not taking down a buffet or eating even eating a piece of cake, just a piece of protein in a small portion. I think the “how” is a reasonable question, but not the “why”.
