Celebrate makes a powder that comes in two different flavors that you take twice a day. Tastes decent. I take opurity by Unjury now, though, which is a good tasting chewable and only once a day.

If you want to be totally bored out of your mind, there's a TON of NIH studies explaining how gastric bypass "resets" your metabolism to match your new weight. Here's a boring, technical article that explains why this is only applicable for bypass patients: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5158101/ and here is a layman's terms article: http://www.thedoctorwillseeyounow.com/content/diabetes/art4005.html There was a really good article about it I found pre-op... but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I was pulled off my Prilosec before surgery because all Prilosec is delayed release and you can no longer have delayed release pills post-op. I have an ulcer now (as you may have read), and they treat it with Pepcid and Carafate. You can't take antacids (like Tums) with Carafate. I didn't have an ulcer before surgery - it just happened. Nothing anyone can do about it. I took Pepcid the night before surgery, as well.

But for what it's worth, I liked Nexium better than Prilosec, but my insurance stopped covering Nexium for whatever stupid reason. But, like I said, I didn't have an ulcer beforehand and it still happened. I don't think taking anything pre-op will stop it from happening if you're going to end up getting one. It's not that common, though. Like up to 16% of patients get one. If you think you already have one, they will probably do an endoscopy beforehand to check and wait until it is healed to do the surgery; I don't know. I feel like you would KNOW if you had one, though. Mine is VERY VERY obviously there.

Somewhere on here are my desperate threads lamenting my endless starvation post-op during that first week. That changed when I got to move to purees. Having liquids only is not satisfying - it goes through your tiny pouch so quickly! It was bad for me, because I have an ulcer and was forcibly dehydrated. I am almost 3 weeks out now and still dealing with dehydration and not even close to my Protein goals (which they said don't worry about now)... and even I get satisfied with the purees/soft foods. I say satisfied because if you're eating until you are full feeling, you're eating too much.

You are not negative, you are just venting! And as soon as this is over you'll be back on your road to better health. When faced with a hurdle, I always tell myself "at least it isn't cancer" and it makes me feel better.

I had an ulcer about 2 weeks or so after surgery and had to go back in the hospital for four nights due to internal bleeding. No pain, though. Then 7 months later I had another one. Just stayed overnight one night for that one. It’s been almost 10 months now with no other ulcers thankfully! Hang in there!

Yay! I have a marginal ulcer! "Fortunately" the surgeon said it looks like it's already healing over... although it sure doesn't feel that way. I am on puree only for 2-4 more weeks (I had made it to soft foods). I am 19 days out. I knew I wasn't crazy! It hurts soooo bad swallowing, but the Carafate is amazing. On it for 30 days and Pepcid 40mg for 3 months.
Surgeon says I probably got an ulcer because I am a former smoker. Smoking is bad, kids. To anyone pre-op or considering RNY... quit now. Just in case. I quit a year ago, but probably had about 3 packs over the last year while socializing, and 2 cigs within a month of surgery. So I guess I never TOTALLY quit. But I am not an "active smoker". And sure as hell haven't and will not touch a cigarette again since post-op.
Not 100% if that's what caused it, but not worth it. It hurts like a mofo. And almost killed me from deterring me from drinking. Anyways, speed bump but not unmanageable.

I read that usually if you get an ulcer right away, it's typically stomach acid and not from being a smoker. Which makes sense because I had badddd reflux beforehand.

I am just staring at that staple in the lower left corner wondering if it is supposed to stick out so much. Won't something snag on it?? lol! Best not to think too hard on these things...

I probably don't need the endoscopy but better safe than sorry. Plus, I've already hit my out of pocket max for the year so it'll be free.

I thought I was going crazy or overreacting to "normal" healing pain. I am glad I harassed the crap out of then, lol. They normally don't do followups with the surgeon themselves... just the bariatric nurses. But I was like SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE. lol.

I have literally only taken one dose of Carafate and can already feel a difference. It immediately coated my esophagus and I am drinking my first Protein Shake in over a week with minimal pain. Holy crap. I could cry. lol. He said it would help first dose, but I rightfully was skeptical.

Sorry am laughing at the 26oz in 30 minutes part followed by the "But apparently I need to pace myself. lol. Uggggh!" LOL, not the next parts. Yes, that's probably excessive.
Super sorry you are dealing with all of this AND experiencing tough issues with your home life. If your ex was toxic for you, this is a strong dose of medicine, but will be best for you and healthier in the end and you WILL get through it. The important thing is TO FEEL and EXPERIENCE it. Let yourself break down. Let yourself cry. Self-love. LOVE that you are reading that excellent book!!! Good on you!
You can seek support networks like grief counseling through church (most are free), also do good things for yourself during this time!
But I disagree with tracking. You are at the point now where you need to start developing those habits. If you don't know where something is broken, you'll never know the precise place to apply the tool to fix it. Tracking and logging provides that data that you need, when/if you need it. We will always need it. Cuz we all have times we go off track and need to direct our course. Also it makes you accountable to yourself. And helps you stay on plan. You still screw up. LOL. You're human. We all screw up. But something about seeing it on the screen in real life, is very sobering.
Also, when Taco Bell looms, go eat 1oz of dense Protein. After trying to drink your Water first. My rule that I use is: If a hard boiled egg sounds appealing to you, then it's real hunger. If it isn't and instead it's something comforty? It's head hunger. I ALWAYS feed head hunger with a glass of water, or hot decaff, or hot green tea, or hot matcha. For me the hot works awesome at quenching the empty need that head hunger creates.
You're doing good! Congrats on gettting through life!

Welp. Today I drank 26oz in 30 minutes, which was apparently a grave error... as it came out the other end 10 min later without warning. So, yes, I can drink now... But apparently I need to pace myself. lol. Ughhhh.

As far as Protein, I am just following my handbook exactly and not specifically counting. They said not to worry about meeting protein goals for several weeks and to just follow the book. I am probably 2/3 of the way there anyways with what they have me eating.

I had a mini mental breakdown last night over Taco Bell. The ex moved out yesterday and it was contentious and now I am totally alone, but started reading Never Binge Again during said breakdown, and it made me feel a lot better.

Just wanted to update. This morning I woke up and just filled up a giant Slurpee cup from the tap with hot Water. It's been an hour and I've had 39 ounces!! I had my first meal and it was filling for once!

You seriously never appreciate the power of what water can do when you're drinking 100 oz a day... until you suddenly drop to... 10 a day. Feeling much better already.

My only support system is this forum and a FB group. My mother is adamantly against this surgery (which I recently went through with) and my now ex bf wasnt understanding. I kicked him out last week, one week postop, yay. I live alone. It's me, myself, and I. And I've had complications, so I am coping alone. It is what it is. Didn't do this for anyone but me so... I don't need anyone else but me.
