Endoscopy Done.. Marginal Ulcer Confirmed

Yay! I have a marginal ulcer! "Fortunately" the surgeon said it looks like it's already healing over... although it sure doesn't feel that way. I am on puree only for 2-4 more weeks (I had made it to soft foods). I am 19 days out. I knew I wasn't crazy! It hurts soooo bad swallowing, but the Carafate is amazing. On it for 30 days and Pepcid 40mg for 3 months.

Surgeon says I probably got an ulcer because I am a former smoker. Smoking is bad, kids. To anyone pre-op or considering RNY... quit now. Just in case. I quit a year ago, but probably had about 3 packs over the last year while socializing, and 2 cigs within a month of surgery. So I guess I never TOTALLY quit. But I am not an "active smoker". And sure as hell haven't and will not touch a cigarette again since post-op.

Not 100% if that's what caused it, but not worth it. It hurts like a mofo. And almost killed me from deterring me from drinking. Anyways, speed bump but not unmanageable. 20181119_171715.jpeg

  • I read that usually if you get an ulcer right away, it's typically stomach acid and not from being a smoker. Which makes sense because I had badddd reflux beforehand.

  • Also check out the sweet staples. We're like Robocop.

  • I am just staring at that staple in the lower left corner wondering if it is supposed to stick out so much. Won't something snag on it?? lol! Best not to think too hard on these things...
