Lower body lift APPROVED!
Just a heads up, I am having surgery in 3 weeks and my surgeon said not to buy any additional compression garments until after the drains come out because most do not accommodate where the drain placement will be... so maybe see if your doc has suggestions on that. I also am going to use my BariBear for support for when I have to cough (or go #2). Also, apparently, you want to have a lot of laxatives ready because #2 is painful with muscle repair (so I hear)! Maybe look into scar tape and scar creams?

Favorite puréed food?

Sushi - 6 Months out
Rice is hard. I've had sushi maybe 3 or 4 times and I poke as much rice off as I can.

Weight going up
Weight fluctuations happen. I bounce from 129 to 133 throughout the week. Also, not to be too TMI, but the best time to weigh is naked, in the morning, after you poop. LOL

Tummy Tuck 8/21
Except I am having an arm lift at the same time so I don't know if I'll be able to pull the handle on it. LOL.

Tummy Tuck 8/21
My surgery is in 20 days. I bought a recliner last month specifically for this reason. lmao.

Scar Tape or Cream?
Yeah, my surgeon told me to massage the sites I have currently when I shower. I use calendula ointment once a day and scar cream once a day, as well. I am not really pressed about the appearance of these scars... but I do want to minimize the ones that will be on my arms since they will be fairly visible. The ones I have currently are covered by my bra.

RNY for Children - Thoughts?
I think a serious analysis of the household would be needed. If the child has the surgery but then is sent back to the same environment where he is surrounded by the same types of food and no real support or understanding, that's basically a setup for disaster or at minimum a future revision. I also don't agree that gender changing decisions should be made prior to age 18 for similar reason - lifelong impact without a full grasp of implications. I would certainly, in both situations, have the individual be (for the most part) out of puberty. Yes, I realize your brain continues developing for some time after, etc. It just makes me feel.... uncomfortable. Again, I think I would be more amenable to it if the child was exhibiting serious comorbidities but I was super morbidly obese for years without any (except pseudo tumor cerebri just a few months before I had RNY) so, it's not as if everyone needs the surgery immediately. I'd like to see the child have the chance to make the lifestyle changes on their own as an adult if they didn't have comorbidities. Give them a chance to change without the surgery.

Scar Tape or Cream?
So, I am using some scar cream on the scars from the bra-band skin excision I had done several weeks ago. It really doesn't seem to be doing anything, but I am continuing with it anyways. BUT, 1oz was 30$. I am having a TT and arm lift in 3 weeks and 1oz will NOT last very long and I don't want to spend God knows how much on cream! I hear the tape is a good option, so I may go with that. I have been reading that you can use the tapes for 3 days, take it off, wash it, and reuse it. Is this true??? Seems gross. How does it continue to stick and how does the silicone remain effective? Any links to good tape? I gots questions. lol.

Tummy Tuck 8/21
Did you have a lot of back pain at all from being hunched over? You had the muscle repair, correct? How long did it take before you could stand up properly?

Questions?
I was told just to be mindful of protein, carbs, and fat. Nothing higher than 10g carbs, 3g fat, and get 63g of protein a day. At one year out I finally was given a calorie count to shoot for.
-
Is this too much food?
I was still in purees at 3 weeks. Definitely just stuck to high protein foods for a long while. But also avocado makes me really sick. ;(

What are you doing with your new weight loss?
Buying clothes in a size small and not even trying them on because I know they'll fit. LOL Woot! No longer suffering from pseudo tumor cerebri! Can't wait to do roller coasters again next summer and wear a bikini. Also just generally way more active.

my personal little official thread
Theoretically, yes. BUT, apparently FMLA does not have to be approved for cosmetic surgeries. I recently got a warning that if I used ANY more sick leave, I would be fired. I missed a lot of work this year due to bariatric complications and most recently my back injury, and didn't know enough about FMLA to know I should have requested those issues be covered so they weren't. They had already approved the FMLA for these dates and if I go and change the dates and ask for new FMLA forms to be completed, I am 100% sure they would deny it. I am going to really go over all this next Monday with the plastic surgeon. I also have an appointment scheduled with my rheumatologist on December 6th, the Friday before I would be returning to work post-op, in case I move forward with the surgery but am still in pain. He would be able to prescribe antiinflammatories or something else to hopefully get me through.

How was Dr. Oviedo?

my personal little official thread
Are you supposed to try to stand up straight to loosen everything up, or stay hunched over until fully healed?

my personal little official thread
I am getting really nervous. On Sept. 21 I suffered a small disc herniation and multiple torn muscles in my abdomen and back. My abdomen has been healed for a while now, but I am in physical therapy for my back. I still have a lot of pain on my thoracic spine and muscle soreness. I have 3 weeks until my TT. I am worried the immobilization from the binder coupled with the muscle repair is going to KILL my back. I have my pre-op next Monday and will discuss this then. I called a week ago and the surgeon said "it will just be more uncomfortable for me but I can still do it". =/

RNY for Children - Thoughts?
Exactly - maybe older teenagers I could see considering it for because they could understand the lifelong implications, but a 12 year old (or younger apparently!) shouldn't be held responsible for his/her dietary and exercise habits. That is the fault of an enabling family. I am barring medical reasons, of course.

The Maintenance Thread
glad i decided to click to this thread via my "losing too much" post. such a bizarre challenge to have. lol. i feel like i ate a good amount this weekend (yesterday i had 3 egg whites, 2 turkey sausages, a large yogurt... thing... (cracker barrel, lol), 4oz filet mignon, a serving of cheddies, kiwi aloe drink, a pumpkin spice chai latte w/ almond milk, and 2 servings of zeroodle lentil fettucine w/ chunky spaghetti sauce and parm cheese) and was down another pound this morning. *head explodes*

RNY for Children - Thoughts?
Reading an article about a study that Duke University did on teens that have RNY. Basically just determining whether it would be beneficial to do it at such a young age or not. Apparently children younger than TWELVE YEARS OLD have had this done. No comorbidities were required necessarily. They indicated the surgery didn't affect growth. I personally feel like unless the teenager is diabetic or has another serious condition related to obesity, they shouldn't be allowed to have the surgery because they probably can't understand the lifelong impact and requirements that the diet needs. I am not sure. It makes me feel unsettled that they would perform this surgery on a 12 year old. And if you're very young, have you really personally had the opportunity to take it upon yourself to make your own lifestyle changes before having this permanently-altering procedure? You're still likely eating what your parents buy you and don't have the independence or self-awareness to make your own lifestyle choices. I know if I had met the criteria for RNY has a teenager I would have jumped on it, and likely sabotaged myself horribly because I was not remotely mature enough or mentally prepared to make these kinds of changes in my life. I don't knowwww. I don't argue the point that it is "safe and effective" but is a child (especially prepubescent??!!) truly psychologically ready to make that decision/commitment? Shouldn't they have the opportunity to live independently for a while and see if they can make changes on their own to lose weight without being underneath their caregivers? What are your thoughts on pre-teens and teenagers having RNY? https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2019-10-28/kids-severely-obese-weight-loss-surgery-pediatricians

Losing Too Much Weight
And it's annoying because part of me knows I am a healthy size, but then I gain a pound or two and FREAK OUT that I am "fat again". And then I'm like "fast track to a size 24 again!", even though I am a size 6.

Losing Too Much Weight
I've had BD since childhood. I was always very slim until about 9-10 years ago. I thought I was HUGE when I was 130lbs when I was 20. I had massive liposuction done and didn't see the results I thought I'd get so I got really depressed and that's when I started overeating. I figured I was already SOOOOOO fat I may as well eat whatever I want, too. So, I am not new to BD. lol. Now that I am thin again, I still think I am gigantic. I look in the mirror and still only see fat. Just like I did when I was a kid and thin. All I see are flaws.
