Nova Scotia
Whoah, Doddie, hun, it's me! I've been there, done that. I'm asking he can have it done in a private clinic and have the province pay for it. The wait for Moncton IS like 5 years, so yeah... that's not happening. I will definitely contact the province and see what they say. I'm just hoping there's someone here who's gone through it. (I posted on a few other boards, so hopefully I'll find someone)

Nova Scotia
It's happened! While browsing the before and afters, Dan said to me: "Maybe I should give the lapband a try." I'm sure I've heard of Nova Scotians having it covered (even just the surgery, not the band itself?), but is it only with Dr. Beausoleil, and you must wait years? Or can you go to a private clinic and have it paid for? Please someone's gotta know? Thanks in advance, Mandi

question need a quick answer
The beauty of the band is you can do whatever you want! If you can fit it into your alotted calories and it doesn't slow you down, go for it! Honestly, I've never stopped myself from eating or drinking something I really wanted.

Goal weight
You're definitely not too optimistic! You can get to whatever weight you want. Those people you see are not giants.... some would say they're selling themselves short. Good luck! (I'm 5'6" and my goal weight made me right in the middle of the healthy BMI range, and exactly half my original weight)

Hello from Ontario!
Welcome *love* ! Better late (my welcome) than never. Great intro, I'm sure you're gonna do awesome with the band, and Dr. Yau's a great choice!

Congrats Sweet! You're doing so awesome... I'm happy for you!

How are you feeling about your band - RIGHT NOW?
Today, so far, I love it. I have the love/hate thing too. I may hate it later on today, who knows. I love it today, cause even though I'm completely defilled, every time I weigh myself, I haven't gained 10lbs like I'm so sure I have! I'm actually maintaining.... and it's CRAZY! :rolleyes2:

Too much milk?
I had a full blood work up done just a little over a month ago, and everything was fine, so I don't think that's a problem. We wouldn't be saying I must be lacking tar or nicotine if I was seriously craving cigarettes though, would we? Really, I just think I like it... abnormally much. Is there anything you can do to prevent kidney stones from forming while still letting me keep drinking milk, I wonder? I do plan on cutting down, cause it's just ridiculous, but still... I could already be growin' some stones as we speak. The pus in milk will definitely stick in my mind... thank you! haha Maybe that'll aid in my recovery! Yikes, we ARE getting ripped off on milk I guess. Gas just went up too, and is now $1.28 a liter (=4.84 a gallon) for regular. And isn't it bad if you guys pay more than $4 a gallon?

Too much milk?
yeah, I eat normal meals like everyone else. I don't understand how I can eat normally and drink so much milk and still be ok, but as long as it's working, I'll do it, cause I loooooove milk! haha My boyfriend and I joked that I transferred my addiction from cigarettes to milk, and now I've got a gallon a day habit! I get a little antsy if I start running low, and can't get to the store. I purposely drive all the way out to costco for milk because it's $5.19 there, and $7.19 at the nearest grocery store. I'm hardcore! lol (how much would a gallon be for you American folks, by the way... out of curiosity?)

Too much milk?
Yes, I understand about the calories, but like I said, if I don't gain, I don't care how many calories I'm eating (don't and never have counted calories). I'm wondering if there are physical problems that can come with large milk consumption.

Too much milk?
So long as it's not causing me to gain, is there anything wrong with drinking ALOT of milk? I'm talking probably 5 gallons a week. (a gallon is 4 liters, right? I'm Canadian, so I'm trying to translate for the US!) This has been going on a couple months. It just makes ma belly feel good! :tt1:

I too am quite deflated... to quote some wise person I once read here: "I lost my boobs, but I still have the bags they came in!"

How about insurance coverage for turkey neck?
what if you tell them that you're a back sleeper, and it chokes you at night while sleeping!?

Ottawa support group
What I was just wondering is if yes, they're ok with you going to see other people for fills, but don't want to be involved with training or recommending those people? What is it that this Dr. Bishop is waiting for before he'll do fills? Just wants to know that its ok for him to do your fills? Is he the Dr. doing fills for SWLC? (I'm just being nosey, obviously... haha I'm no where near Ottawa and not from the TLBC either  )

How did you decide on a goal weight?
I just divided my start weight in half, which also happened to be in the middle of the healthy BMI scale, and that was that. Never thought I'd actually get there.

Ottawa support group
I'm just curious, has the TLBC 'approved' any outside Dr's to do fills on their patients before? (ie: are there any Dr's they send patients to, or do they just give the DVD and you're on your own to get your GP to do it for you?)

Scared
Welcome Sphil, Don't worry so much  and stop reading in the lapband removal and the complications areas! The instances of those kinds of problems are really low if you look into it... and you know you're always going to see more people talking about what goes wrong than what goes right, right?! It's good to be informed and know what COULD happen, but now you know, move on and start looking at all the success stories! Mandi

Hey guys, I'm still around. Exploring Halifax and takin' 'er easy. No new job yet... I'm kind of toying with some ideas. How does Mandi: Real Estate Agent sound? haha seriously though, I have a friend who's doing really well with that, and it's got me thinking about it. Pretty much all of our stuff is unpacked, except, we have so much less room here, that we need some bookcases to but stuff in/on. Ordered some from IKEA and they should be here in a couple weeks (can you believe there's no IKEA east of Montreal!?) so we may finally be settled in soon. I got a defill a few weeks ago, and I'm at 0.5cc's right now, and I'm going to be getting completely defilled, cause I'm still having 'too tight' issues at only 0.5ccs. I'm going to see if I can maintain my weight loss with no fill.... it's scary though. I gained big time when I was defilled, but that was also over Christmas when lots of goodies and chocolate are around. Wish me luck! I did something crazy the other day and tried on some size 8 pants, cause I'm wearing 10's right now, and they're getting too big. 8 was still loose, so I tried 6's and they fit!! Then yesterday, I remembered that I had a gift card from my birthday that I never used, and decided that since I can FIT size 6's, but don't actually own any size 6's, it will be easier for me to gain weight and not notice, cause my clothes are too big right now. That was my rationale that I had for buying some clothes! I grabbed a few pairs of jeans, and for the hell of it, a SIZE FOUR too. Tried 'em all on, leaving the 4's for last... found the size 6 jeans I liked, then tried on the 4's. I got them ON, DONE UP and everything. Now they were snug looking, and if I was someone who liked that really fitted look, maybe I would have got them, but... who cares, I can say I got them on, and thats all that matters! Anyways, I got some snazzy new size 6 pants, and I blew my mind. I can't get over how I look at pants and am so sure they're not going to fit... even pulling them over my thighs ... then I pull them up, zip 'em up... VOILA! Friday is mine and Dan's 5 yr anniversary, and Saturday is my 2 year bandiversary, so I've got some celebrating to do! That's about all that's going on with me. Thanks for asking!!! Hope you all are doing well! Mandi- Fast Food...
I can't say that I haven't had cravings (but also didn't for a while in the beginning), but the odd time I've caved and had some fries or something from McDonalds, for example, I didn't enjoy them at all. The old standbys are definitely not as good when you have to take your time eating them, that is for sure. Now I go for things I KNOW taste good, cause if I can't eat much, I'm at least going to enjoy the amount I CAN eat.- Adult Question....
Never a problem. Obviously while you're initially healing, you'll wanna make sure your belly isn't being smooshed or bumped around, but you'll be the judge and know whether its still sore or not and can take a little rough-housing... And after you're all healed, I don't think you need to worry about it at all. - Where Do You Find Surgeon Ratings/Reviews?
