  1. Hi sugarbear, great observations and advise. I went back over my post op instructions and realized that I was supposed to be taking Prilosec each day. It had been called to my pharmacy and I picked it up yesterday. I had a much better night and slept very well. I guess there was so much going on with everything I just forgot. I agree there is a wide variety of pre and post op directions from the different surgeons out there and different schools of thought. I have the upmost confidence in my surgeon and I will try to follow his orders as directed. I get to have mushies tomorrow....yippee. My friend who had the surgery 2 weeks ago with this surgeon is doing well and says that it will feel wonderful to have some texture, just to go slowly. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You seem very like a very bright gal. Becky
  2. Thanks lorib I appreciate the advise and the support. I know that this will get better. Becky
  3. Hi Janet, I usually don't have anything before bed and I don't have a cpap machine. I usually like to sleep on my stomach or side but have not been able to do that yet. I have had to sleep on my back and I hate it. Will it hurt my band to sleep on my stomach or side? the two times I have experienced this pain has been very early in the morning after about 6 hrs of sleep. Today was my first day back to work and I was pretty wiped out. Should I have something in my stomach before bedtime? I will see my doc this week so he will be able to advise me on these things. I just expected everything to be back to normal after a week. I want to find out when I can start exercising again. I have just been walking a mile or so over the past 3 days. Thanks for listening. Becky
  4. I haven't had a fill yet, I am only 1 week post op. I was just wondering if this is the gas pains people have talked about. I never had them in the hospital or the first few days. Becky
  5. I will see my doc for my first post op visit on Thurs. If this happens again I will call before Thurs. thanks, Becky
  6. Hi all, I just have a question. I have been on clear liquids and protein drinks since surgery, 5-12-08. Early this morning I woke up with the most horrible epigastric pains. I got nauseated, cold and clamy. I got up and took some liquid tylenol, gas X and a little milk of mag. Nothing was working. I was up walking for an hour when I looked in my Lap Band compainion book and it said to try some warm tea, so I a made warm pepermint tea. Finally at about 4:30 am I was able to go back to sleep. I had to be up for work at 6:30. This happened one other time and I called my Dr and he had me go for an upper G.I. Everything looked good at that time. I just don't want to go through this again. Anyone else have this problem and how do you prevent it. Becky
  7. As soon as I got to my room and started waking up a little more, I had my sister help me out of bed and then walk with me around the med surg floor. I was a little dizzy so good to have someone with you. First stand at your bedside and get your bearings. I just tried to do this about every 1-2 hours. It is easier to move when you have some pain medication on board. As for the anesthesiologist, you will have a change to talk to him/her about your concerns before you go into surgery. Mine asked me if I wanted a little relaxation medication and I said yes. Nothing like a little chemical courage. I really don't remember anything after that. The next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room. Say a little prayer before you go to sleep the night before and leave it with God. You will be fine. Look at it as a new adventure in your new life. I will say one for you too on Sunday evening. Best wishes and keep in touch.
  8. Best wishes to all you up coming banders........it is pretty exciting and so worth it. I am 5 days post op and doing well. Looking forward to my new lifestyle of health and vitality. I'll be thinking of you!! Becky
  9. I had my LB on Monday, May 12th and I am still on liquid protein and water. My abdomin is still pretty swollen but coming down. I take gas x for the gas pains and Lortab elixer for the incisional pains. Everything is getting better each day. It is very challenging getting in the protein drinks. It takes me all morning to get in one glass. I am pretty much just sipping protein or sipping water all day. I also have to wait 30 min before and after water before I can have the protein. I feel extremely full and have no appetite, but I know I need the protein to heal. I am still 100% happy that I had the surgery. Every little bit of discomfort is so worth what I will have for the rest of my life.....portion control. Becky
  10. Good for you...keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I had mine on Monday and it went perfectly. A little pain at the port site on the left but not horrible. They give you pain meds that help all that. Everyone told me to start walking right away to prevent gas pains and that really worked.....no gass pains.......Yippy I am so glad I did it and want to support any one out there waiting..I am here for you. Becky
  11. Just another high five to all you May Banders coming up...best wishes and I know you will be so happy that you did it....I am!!! Becky
  12. Good for you Sadie.....that is fantastic!! May 12th was my LB day and I am doing great. I am not going to weigh until I see my doctor. I know I am up because of all the IV's and I tend to hold onto water in my body. I am so glad I had the LB....WOO-hoo Becky
  13. Hi Amsderb, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Any thing that will help make your surgery go smoothly will be great, plus you have a jump start on your post op diet. I had my lap band May 12th and I am doing well except for some pain around the port sites on my left side. It is so worth it. I really have no appetite yet and have just been sipping on protein drinks and then waiting for 1/2 hour to have some water. You spend most of your day sip, sip sipping. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Keep us posted. Love, Becky
  14. I think the poor lady is still in shock and unbearable pain from her loss. I hope she can find a grief web site where she can talk with others sharing the loss of a loved one or go to a grief counselor. Anyway I had a perfect surgical experience yesterday and now I am home starting my new life........................YIPPEE Becky
  15. Hi Garden Girl, My surgery went perfectly. It was a great experince. The only discomfort was right at the main incision where they put the port, but the pain pills knock and I am using a heating pad. Some one on this site told me about that. I just couldn't be happier and so so glad that I went into the process well informed and all my legal papers in order. I wasn't one bit afraid, I new that God was with me every step of the way. Thanks for your support. Becky:lol: t o
  16. Hi Journee, I was having ups and downs with my decision, but I now feel very informed and ready. This site has helped so much because real people just like you and I have gone through it and are happy they did. I found out about a book on this website called Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Robert Sewell, MD. It addresses that fear of failure that all of us have experinced at one point in time. We all have lost weight for short periods of time only to gain it back and then some. With our LB tool and with support, we never have to fail again. I found the book on Amazon.com. It talks about all aspect of surgery..pre, post, during and food planning. My LB is tomorrow morning at 7:00 and I can't wait! It is a little scary having surgery but it is more scary facing multiple health problems that obesity can cause. I hope you find peace with your decision or wait until you are sure. Best Wishes to you. I'll let you know how mine goes, ok? Becky:tongue_smilie:
  17. Wow, I am truely sorry for your loss but I wish I would not have seen this today of all days. I am having surgery tomorrow. I have all my things in order and I have made a very informed decision to have this surgery. I researched for over a year. My surgeon is here in the US with outstanding credentals and a member of the Bariatric Society. He has never had one mortality and very very morbitities. I know the risks, I am an RN and have worked in surgery for over 15 years. This website has always been a source of inspiration and positive support until today.
  18. Good for you little shirl.......you can do it!!
  19. Glad to hear everyone is doing so well:thumbup:In 4 more days I will be one of the banded:tt1: Becky
  20. I am being banded on May 12th and was told at my preop class to keep the food to 2 tbs also. Sounds like you are doing very well. Keep up the good work and keep us all posted on your progress. Becky
  21. Salam, that is the great thing about this website, you hear alot of valuable information to help you along the way. You need to find out what will work out the best for you. Always keep in mind that good nutrition comes first. There are a couple of good books that I found on Amazon.com on Lap Band. I think one is called the Lap Band companion. It discussed nutrition and psycological aspects of having the band. I found it very helpful too. Good Luck, Becky
  22. Hi Crystal, I am now on day 6 of my 10 day pre op diet. I felt the same way the first 2 days but now it got easier. I let myself have a tiny taste of hot sauce or mustard which was nice because I got tired of the sweetness of the shakes. I also found some unflavored whey protein which I put in plain chicken broth which helped me. Having something kind of salty and warm for variety. I even went out to dinner with friends last night and sipped on my water with lemon while they ate and drank wine. It was kind of hard but I just tried to focus on the conversaton and enjoy being out with friends. I had a shake right before I left the house so I wasn't really hungrey but it sure smelled good. This won't be forever. We will be able to eat what others are eating, just in way smaller portions. Won't it be great to have a tool that will give us portion control!:thumbup:My band day is May 12th and I am really excited. I had some fears and doubts until I found this site. The people here are so helpful and supportive. Hang in there....YOU CAN DO IT! Becky
  23. HairyDay, Congrats! YOU MADE IT! I hope mine goes as well. Keep up the good work and take good care of yourself! Becky (6 days to go for me)
  24. Congrats! I am so happy that you have done so well. It gives me hope that mine will go as well in 6 days. You are an inspiration. Take good care and keep us all posted. Hugs, Becky:lol:
  25. My doctor told me to get at least 20 gms of protein per drink. I found that I can add BeneProtein (by the same company that makes BeneFiber) will add another 6gms of whey protein and it is flavor free. You can put in anything. I put it in my broth to up the protein.
