Sure it's normal to worry. It's a new phase of your life, a new adventure that you haven't done before. It's all a matter of trial and error within the parameters that your nutritionist set out for you. Hang in there, it gets easier with practice.

I am 4 weeks post op and just starting soft foods. I feel like it’s so vague and I hate that I can’t just get a structure for this but instead have to figure out what works for me. I feel like a fish out of Water and that I don’t know what to have. I dont know why I’m so confused by that?
my period is a week late and I’ve been spotting and extremely hormonal but it’s not here yet.
I have random thoughts running through my kind of regret. It’s not really regret it’s just more that I’m just feeling not confident and unsure and wonder how long that will last for and hoping it’s not just forever.
I’m still on anti nausea meds because I get it everyday.

am I normal? Do people have these struggles and worries? I have good moments where I can start to see my weightless which is exciting but everything seems so hard right now with a constant fight to get Protein in.

Hi! Today I reached a milestone. I've lost 50 pounds, which I have never done in my life. I once lost 30, but gained it back plus eventually 50 more.
I'm going to buy myself a waterproof Fitbit. I started wearing one 3 weeks ago that my husband got me for Christmas, as he knew I wanted one for after surgery. He got me the Alta, but it's not waterproof.
Also, I'm interested in buying a scale that measures body fat. I have no idea how they work or the first thing to look for. Any tips are welcome.
    Thank you!

Hello. I'm post VSG as of 2015. 130 lbs down. My recent labs came back with High A, High Copper, and low Vit E. Has anyone had higher lab work then expected post VSG & what did you do to tweak it? My surgeon doesn't want me to back off on my Vitamins, but I'm scared I'm going to ruin my liver.

Liz The New Me reacted to Frustr8 in SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
And since I am having ambulatory/short Stay Surgery at 7: 30 am , I had to have a pre-surgery appointment on Monday the first a.k.a April Fool day. So I took the opportunity to get weighed, 232 pounds, do you know what PeePs? This gives me a BMI OF 35.27 and that means I AM NO LONGER MORBIDLY OBESE- I have entered the world of merely OBESE, on the outside It is yawn, "Yeah that's nice" on here It is TRIUMPH pure clear TRIUMPH and I am both proud and dumb-struck it happened to me!
In case anybody is remotely interested , all that is happening, is the titanium plate and 12 screws that held my badly broken upper right arm bone, the humerus in place for 9 years and 2 months needs badly to be removed, either 1. it has outlived Its usefulness 2. with the weight loss it's like it rocks and pinches nerves, but I have not been pain-free for weeks, it is affecting my life quality, can't sleep without my pain meds that I have hoarded, don't like them, a potential Constipation factor, and have enough sorrow there already, wish I could get back my nice easy to pass daily πŸ’©I had prior to surgery. Maybe when my diet gets more complete it will happen! Gosh I do hope so!!

Surgery: VSG (just a little over 5 months post op, still losing...)
    Starting weight: 146.4
Goals: Get to 135 lbs (which would mean a 100 lbs loss for me since October!) && increase strength training time/amount. Right now I do maybe 20-30 mins twice a week, I want to do more.
#1 Something I'm proud of today: I am getting so much better at remembering the steps in Zumba. I didn't feel as stupid as I normally do this morning at class.

And you may discover things later you never liked that you do now. And perhaps they will stay down where these things don't. I still have trouble with Greek Yogurt, cottage cheese and bananas and I'm 7 months past surgery. And all 3 were go-to prior to surgery, so I do miss them.

Remember we are all at different stages. The only one that counts is your stomach. Think of the plan as a guide only. Listening to your stomach it's new and in training. We all learn the hard way. I'm still learning to eat slower too or I start getting the "foamies". To this day I can't eat anything that is over cooked, or yogurt but that's me. So don't be to hard on yourself.

Wear your loose skin like a badge of honor! It's a reminder of what a success you all are!
I have the middle 'apron', I think it's called. I've had it since pregnancy, so it's only going to get worse. Since the skin has been like that for years, surgery will be my only option after weight is lost.
My dermatologist told me years ago to use Zeazorb, a powder, in the foot care aisle. It keeps me from having skin problems. I use it anywhere there is skin to skin contact.

I'm only 3 months post opp and I have so much loose skin in my arms... I started going to the gym right after I got cleared. But like they say in the other comments, it's also about genetics( I'm 23)

moisturize and hydrate!!!! I am 52 and already have quite a bit of loose skin to deal with. strength training and toning exercises will help as well. YOGA and Pilates are your friends! I also use Nivea skin firming lotions every day! twice a day!
  24. Congrats!

There will be loose skin bc of how rapid the weight loss is. Start exercising and weight training as soon as you get cleared to. Also, lotion lotion lotion. Keep your skin moisturized. Other than that the rest is genetics...some people have great elasticity and others not. My skin is loose but I didn’t weight train right away...wish I did. I am now. I’m 44 as well. But ill take the loose skin over how big I got any day!!

Liz The New Me reacted to RickM in Skin??
1 - have your surgery younger (get out that time machine!) as we lose elasticity with age, and
2 - choose better parents - genetics plays a big role.
The various creams and lotions may do something, but it is very hard to do any kind of scientific investigation (because of the variables involved) and the manufacturers of such products aren't inclined to fund such studies. The best that one can do for such a study is to gather a group of WLS patients together and apply the product to half of their body and do nothing to the other half (or use a placebo cream) and who will sign up for that?
Exercising and toning can help some, but what one really needs to do is to build muscle mass (rather than just tone) in the areas where the fat is being lost to fill in the lost fat volume - plausible in the upper arms and legs, not gonna happen in the abs (think of classic six-pack abs vs the folds of flab we usually have there - muscle won't fill that.)
Resolve within you that you will probably need some kind of reconstruction done and start saving your pennies for it. Do what you can on exercising and try whatever products make sense to you and hope that all those various factors work out in your favor - then you can buy a new car instead with what you have saved up.
