Thank you! I'm a little worried about the pre_op diet. I get bad headaches if I don't eat enough.

Christabelle reacted to Alex Brecher in Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?
I know Dr. Vuong for over a decade. He is a very nice and entertaining guy who IMHO gives out so-so medical and surgical advice. He bounced around from practice to practice and has never been able to make it as a bariatric surgeon.

To me, a lot of it rings true (tho I wouldn't nessesarily limit lean meat or minimize dairy.)
I like his whole food, vitimins and nutritional content first approach
For example he recommends instead of a sugar-free fat free cookie made with aspertame, guar gum, olestra, msg, and splenda (no actual food was harmed in the making of this product)
Just eat an apple full of vitimins, photo chemicals, and Fiber
It worries me when I see a lot of bariatric surgery perminant diet patients recommending tons of fake food
I would rather use lettus to make a sandwich then this weird low calorie, low fat, highly processed bread they found.
I like that he emphasises veggies, which are both very low calorie and very high nutritient.
I do wonder if his people get enough protine, and if they are hungry with less animal protine as animal protine is very satisfying and digests more slowly.
I also wonder if the fruit and Beans may cause dumping syndrome or blood sugar swings.
I wonder if his blended spinnich and raw fruit smoothies are too hard on a tummy early on... (Raw plant fiber)

Amen! I was forced into it because I need VSG before any surgeon at mayo would repair my hernia and my insurance doesn't cover it. It turned out to be a mixed blessing because I got to choose my surgeon and could get the surgery much sooner. No worrying about insurance backing out or coming up with extra requirements they forgot or lost paperwork at the last minute.

Hi. Do you think they would get offended if you brought Snacks or food that you can eat? I don't think this is fair to you. I think bringing your own stuff can be like a compromise. You're doing what you can to participate if they still don't understand they don't deserve your company. This isn't your fault or your doing. Taking care of yourself is not an act of selfishness. Please consider what I say, depression has the potential to mess up all the progress you have made. Seek professional help. Maybe try attending a support group for wls patients. I'm sure there are other folks who have experienced this too. I'm scheduled to have my surgery Oct 3rd. While everyone in my household is supportive this is a fear I have in regards to visiting my boyfriend's family. Reach out please.

Not sure why you thought being lighter would make you miss food less. Did you have a pre-op mental health check? Was this not something you addressed with them? This is going to be (for the most part) a life long thing... will it get better / easier... sure it will, you'll adjust and your body will as well, things you can't eat right now, you might be able to down the road. I'm getting close to 6 months and I can pretty much eat whatever I want, making it harder than if I couldn't. Now, since I can eat cake and Cookies and drink beer and eat calzones and whatever... I have to make those choices myself, of my own free will, I can no longer say "Oh, I can't eat that cookie it'll make me dump" because that doesn't happen anymore. Not sure what surgery you had... but *it does get better*.

If you are having issues, get back and talk to a therapist.

This is a super easy fix.
    Stop it.

Get back on your diet and start tracking EVERYTHING.
Put the pity back in the cabinet with those slider foods and pull yourself up and get moving. Clearly it's bothering you... so do something about it.

No one but you is making you eat those foods you know you shouldn't.
No one but you is keeping you in that chair, on that couch or in that bed when you could be out hiking, walking, enjoying the outdoors somewhere.
No one but you is holding you back!

You feel upset and depressed and disgusted. So then make the changes that'll make you feel better!

Only you can work with the surgery. Only you can change your habits. Only you can make you feel better!

    SO DO IT!
    No more excuses.
    No more "tomorrows".
No more self pity or self loathing.
    NO MORE WAITING
    NO MORE INACTION

You got this... you just have to get it.

It gets better at around 3 months. You will never be able to eat the same amount you did before, but you will be able to participate during food functions. I too, for the first 2 months was a bit angry and depressed about not being able to eat the way I used to, but it’s normal. It’s like mourning a relationship. I promise it will get better. I am now 5 months post op. I am able to eat things I couldn’t eat at 2 months post op. Some things I won’t touch for fear of gaining weight. If I want something I really shouldn’t have, I will take a little taste or bite and throw the rest away. It’s all about self control and will power. I started this journey at 242 pounds, 5 months ago. I currently weigh 168.2. Sometimes it’s not easy but I can tell you, it’s worth it. Good luck to you.

Do you have a "stick" blender, also known as an immersion blender? I know the post-op diet phases for the sleeve and bypass are different, but try and puree what you want to eat. It makes it much easier to chew. I use a bit of applesauce in my chicken, then blend it until it is pureed. For me, it is much easier than trying to chew it to that consistency.

Disney World and Disneyland are friendly to "Pooh sized" guests as some like to say. I've been size 28/30 and no problems riding any of their rides.

Six Flags and other amusement parks, not so much. I can't personally vouch for Universal Studios, but I've heard they are more Pooh sized friendly than 6 Flags, but not as much as Disney.

Two years ago, I had the Sleeve.

Since then I have lost more than fifty kilos, I have gained all my confidence back, found a girlfriend, a new job and it basically transformed my life.

I have, through those two years, sometimes gained one or two kilos back when I was on holiday abroad, when it was around Christmas or my birthday, I might have had a bit of wine, even ate fries and a burger, but I've never fallen into excess again and so far could always lose the bit of weight I had taken back in a few days.
I still bike three times a week, I walk rather than taking the car/bus/metro (when it's possible to do so), I still drink a lot of Water, eat healthy and follow strictly the same diet that has been working for me during two years.

My weight loss has slowed down a lot lately but I know I definitely need to hit the gym more regularly. So excited to be close to goal. The last time I saw the nutritionist she thought that 170lbs would be a good goal for me and we could reassess once I reach it. Today I'm 184lbs and I have my one year surgery anniversary coming up April 20th. Trying to crack down to hopefully be 170 by my annual check-up. Regardless I'm really proud of how far I've come and I know that I can get there with the same focus I've had the last 10-11 months. In the last week or so when I've seen old pictures I don't even recognize that person. Surgery was the best decision I've made!
