lzucks got a reaction from Zemi in how has surgery impacted your hunger?
I still get hungry, sometimes every few hours. The big difference is my ability to control cravings and make healthy choices, plus I get full by eating a fraction of what I used to. I had the sleeve in Aug 2018. I’ve lost 104 lbs and am 11 lbs from goal. 😊

This is a really solid article I came across today. It feels pretty universal that by about month 7-ish, our experience with our tool starts to shift and become a bit more challenging--for a variety of reasons. And one thing I certainly noticed was the larger capacity. Yikes! It's enough to send fear down my spine.
This article is by the OAC (Obesity Action Coalition) and just very very good information for all of you struggling!

Gatorade zero and Vitamin Water zero. Regular water didn’t taste right to me for several months.

    Great question!
Things I am looking forward to:
    - Blending in a crowd. (Being a major, major introvert, I HATE being the BIG GIRL standing out all the time.)
    - Gardening and breathing, all at the same time.
    - Feeling like I have taken back some control over my own body. Making peace with it. Knowing it will always be a work in progress, even a struggle, but something that I CAN now do.
    - Being in a position sometime down the road to "pay it forward" by helping someone else dealing with their weight issues.
    - Breaking up with my CPAP machine.
    - Never having to make a list of joys/goals that is based on how my current weight affects those things I want to do, Ever, ever again. LOL!

I’ve had this goat cheese ball recipe done with oil (pan fried) at a party and it was amazing. Looks like I’m going to have to get an air fryer to make this! Thanks for sharing.

Yes and yes!! I used to sweat really easily and now I have a hard time working up a sweat even when working out. Yesterday I was freezing AT THE GYM! I’m cold all the time now. This changed immediately after surgery for me, before I’d really lost any weight. I find this so incredible.

Hey y'all! Anyone and everyone is welcome to jump in and join us.
This is the Intermittent Fasting DAily Menu/Results/Accountability Thread. It's where a few of us (or many) are going to log in and encourage each other while we experiment with our own IF plans. You can list or talk about anything--not just your food. I look forward to adding in HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and core exercises to my walking plan while practicing IF. So expect to hear about that too. hehe I expect some of us will talk about the known IF side-effects like insomnia, circadian rhythm disturbance, etc. It's all good! Let's hack this IF mofo! mkay?
There is not any 1 specific IF plan--there are so many to choose from, so this is a BYOIFP (bring-your-own-IF-plan) and join the fun! This is the thread where we'll post our daily menus and maybe some piccys at times! We can discuss progress, issues we might notice, look at how we may want to refine our own personal plans. I do think you should be healed from surgery and have your doctor's and RD's blessings to try something like this and you should do a ton of research and reading about Intermittent Fasting.
IF isn't only about weight loss, it's about taking specific measures to limit either quantities, calories, macros, or sometimes only consciously altering eating windows/schedules in order to effect metabolic change and reduce inflammation and improve health markers.
    Ok, let's do this thang!!!

Yesterday I drove 2.5 hours to meet up with my very dear friend that had gastric bypass only 3 months before I had my sleeve. We enjoyed our day together shopping for new clothes, talking about life and the joys and struggles of WLS. She has also lost 100lbs.

Exercise NSV today! I walked 5k on the treadmill in 1 hour 7 minutes. I’ve never walked more than 40 minutes on the treadmill so this was a big accomplishment for me. I I entered a 5k that’s in a couple weeks so it’s very motivating. 😊

I believe most plastic surgeons want you to be at your goal for at least 6 months or longer before post-Bariatric plastics. 6-7 months post-op might not be a realistic goal.

lzucks reacted to FluffyChix in Is anyone angry about food?
So I think as everyone here agrees:
    1. This is a very common experience many bariatrics share.
    2. You should really seek a referral to a bariatric therapist to help facilitate your movement through this process. Or maybe join a local group session with your surgeon's practice. I'm a member of 2 -- 1 I attend monthly and is awesome. We talk about our feelings, our challenges and triumphs and life in general and it's awesome! Plus this place is just super duper!
But what you are experiencing is grief. There are 5 stages of which anger is one of them. It's important to share your feelings, talk, get the anger out and work thru each stage so that you can progress to the last stage which is acceptance.
I knew about this going into surgery and so had done a lot of the head work in the year leading up to surgery. Because I was ready for it, lol, wouldn't you know? I didn't have any grief over food. I'm lucky.
I did have bouts of being hangry/angry/terse and did have bouts of sadness that came and went like a flash. That's due to the hormonal shifts happening as we liberate fat for fuel. It can totally jack with us. But it wasn't related to lack of food.
I had been eating healthy for so long leading up to surgery that I actually had a taste preference for healthy "clean" low fat foods like lean Proteins, leafy grees/low glycemic veg, and low healthy fats. I know now, that's because I actually re-built my gut microbiome because of my great diet and that biome caused my preferences to shift. Now, that didn't and doesn't mean I don't have cravings, head hunger, and desire for bad stuff. It didn't mean I was 100% perfect. But I strove to be, cuz I knew, that way too soon--that bad decision making would express itself and I would cave and eat something "bad"--and feel miserable (hurting, sick, nausea) afterward as a result.
So it's not that you will never eat your old foods. You should work on reframing your brain. Use this honeymoon period that is WAY too short, to shift your thinking. Think instead: Look at what GREAT choices I'm making, and let me see how healthy and dense I can eat, while keeping my calories and food quantities the lowest and let me see how quickly I can get this 10lbs off of me! See how MUCH nutrition you can get per calorie. Focus on "nutrient dense" low calorie, real food!!! And resign that it's OK, to be hungry! Cuz hunger only lasts 20 minutes then will go away if you don't feed it. It won't grow. It won't kill you at this point. You have a feast table on your tummy, thighs, and bottom.
I kept a spread sheet. And each decade of weight, I knew approximately how many days it would take me to lose that decade! And I made a game of it. I was so thrilled with the movement on the scale and the smaller sizes of clothes, that it kept me busy and engaged in the process in a very positive way. I was laser focused on losing the current decade of weight. Then it was onto the next decade. It's all about the spin you put on things. You know?

@Vanessa Blair—I’m 8 months post VSG and I was recently discussing this same issue with my therapist. I feel like I have no emotions, very cold. I also happen to be going through a divorce. She thought it might be because I’m in my all business, super confident mode between my weight loss & marriage. Unfortunately, someone close to my son recently committed suicide and I found out I can cry and feel very sad. It was just kind of buried inside me for a while. Long answer, hope it helps...
