New Lap Band Member in Maryland
Hello, I had my band in April 21st. and have lost 43lbs since the band, or so my scaled this morning and 40 lbs before during my 6mth diet i had to do. I am on my 3rd fill and have great5 restriction. You usually dont have restriction until the 3rd or 4th fill. Until then you are still on your own to lose the weight. Good rule to remember is Protein first, then veggies. no Pasta, no bread, no rice, no potatoes. anything else you eat besides meat, fish, chicken, seafood, pork or turkey and veggies, you have to count the carbs. Stay below 30 carbs a day and you will lose. Good luck on your journey.

Pre-Diet Question
No that shouldn't hurt anything. Just make sure about 2 days prior to your operation you go on clear liquids. This will shrink your liver and empty out your stomach. Stock up on sugar free popsicles cause the first 3 days after surgery you will be on clear liquids. The sugar free life savers popsicles are very good. I drank crystal light and SF popsicles, oh and water during my clear liquid stage.

liquid pain medication question
I live in Florida and on the shelf with the regular pain reliever you can get Liquid Tylenol for adults. It works faster then the pills and doesn't taste to bad. At my store it isn't kept behind the counter.

3 Months Out: Struggling
Eat proteins, chicken, fish, beef, pork, seafood, eggs and cheese. Then if still hungry eat veggies, except carrots. They are very high in carbs. stay away from potatoes, bread, pasta, rice and fruits if you can. If you eat anything besided protein and veggies, like potatoes, bread, pasta, rice, fruits, junk food, count the carbs. If you stay below 30 carbs a day and away from the high in carb foods you will lose weight steadily. I walk about 1/2 a mile every day is all the excercise I do. If you have things like pudding or popsicles eat sugar free. Good luck on your journey

Unbearable Shoulder Pain!!!
Hello, The shoulder pain will go away. Mine took about 3 wks at least. It was a hernia repair also. Pain meds help some, and sleeping in a sit up position helps as well along with a heating pad on my upper back. You need to drink lots of liquid. I use to drink the liquid then usually burp to help relieve some of the gas. I couldnt drink the protien shakes they made me feel ill. So I would buy campbells canned Soup like beef barley and drink the juice only and throw out the veggies. By day nine i was allowed to go to soft foods. Good luck on your journey.

Is this how its gong to be??? HELP!
Hi, You usually dont fill any restriction with the second fill. you just have to stick to the program. Eat meat, fish, chicken, seafood, cheese, eggs and veggies. Stay away from bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and fruit. All are high in carbs. Always go for sugar free and and if you eat anything besides protein and veggies count the carbs. You are guaranteed to lose if you eat less than 30 carbs a day. veggies dont count toward carbs, except carrots, potatoes and corn. Practice portion control and no snacking and find other things to do to occupy your time. And try not to think about food. The more you stress over what you are going to eat, the more you will make yourself hungry. Good luck on your journey

Post op question
Hello. I had that. My doc said it was because I had a hernia that had to be fixed. It is gas, but the pain was caused of the hernia he fixed. My hernia was right where the band was located. I had that pain for several weeks. It does get better and go away eventually. Good luck on your journey.

Restriction-less!
Hi, Feeling very little restriction is normal. You won't really feel any restriction until the 3rd, 4th or 5th fill. I depends on how much you doctor saline he puts in. So basically you are still on your own for weight loss. I just had my 3rd fill and I do have restriction now. Good luck on you journey.

Just banded-Introduction
Follow your doctors plan. Keep in mind you have stitches inside you and you do not want to tear them or your stomach by putting to much weight in your pouch. That is why you are on liquids. You can cause slippage or even damage to your stomach. Good luck on your weight loss.

I'm finally posting!!
Congrats on being banding. Early morning you will usually tight. I try not to eat bread for that reason, cause bread swells up. Fried chicken is okay to eat, as long as you dont eat the skin or the crust. Dark meat is easier to swallow than white meat. I am going tuesday for my 3rd fill. I have now lost 76lbs Good luck on your weight loss.

Starting new job, but want lap band surgery!
Well first off, you didnt say what type of insurance. Im assuming you know it will be covered. my husbands insurance and my company insurance is with the same insurance company, his plan covers the procedures by my company didnt include it in their plan. Luckily I am covered under his. Most insurance companies require some type of diet plan first anywhere from 3-6 months. I started my process in September of 2007, by the time we followed the insurance guidelines and completed all the required tests. I was banded finally in April 2008. I would just let your employer know for now that you have a doctors appt and that is it. Advise her it was planned before she offered you the jobs. Then after your insurance kicks in and you get all the details on how they work it, then go from there. My surgeon only does the operations on certain days of the week. Mine was done on a Monday. You kinda work around the doctors schedule and the insurance company. I have lost a total of 76lbs. Good luck on your journey.

Either the band or me is not working! :(
The band is just a tool. You have to work hard at losing the weight. Eat alot of protein, meat, fish, chicken, seaford, pork, eggs and cheese. eat that first then eat some veggies if you are hungry. Stay away from bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and junk food. no soda, after the meat and veggies if you have to eat something like fruit count the carbs. stay at 30 or below on your carbs. I have been following this food plan since january and I am now down by 76lbs. i lost 40 before my surgery and lost 36 since. I was banded April 21st. I go next week for my 3rd fill, which will give me more restrictions. You should only eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cups of food at one sitting. Do not drink liquids while eating. Wait at least 30 min after each meal to drink. then only sip the liquids. The more carbs you eat, the more you crave them and you will not lose. You need about 60-90 grams of protein a day. no snacks between meals. If you do make it high in protein. 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds has 19 grams of protein. anything you drink make it sugar free. same with popsicles and pudding make it sugar free. What happens is your gets to many carbs then all it does is store it. Start excercising or walking. Well good luck on your journey.

I can barely eat 1/4 cup of food!
remember that first thing in the morning, you will be tight. cause your stomach swells in the middle of the night so your band will be tighter. it is okay to skip breakfast because of this.

Question for someone banned with Cigna
I have cigna also. The hospital submitted a claim and it is still pending. I was banded on April 21, 2008. They havent paid anything as of yet. Go onto their website and watch your claims carefully. Cause they have denied a few claims and had to run them back through because I am covered. I still have a claim pending back to november 2007 for my psyc eval. Another reason to watch it carefully is if the doc send something under the wrong code it wont get paid. I have to pay my copay and then 20 of what is left.
