  1. I just tried the mushroom bisque for dinner, strained of all veggies and rice (I'm on full liquids). It was the first tasty thing I've had in a week, but sadly my stomach said "Uh-uh, no way". I started feeling lousy as I ate, so I put it in a container in the fridge to try again in day or two. It isn't as fatty as a bisque normally is, so I'm not sure why it was causing a problem. I hope I can tolerate it tomorrow because it was good. No protein through.
  2. It seems like there are a lot of teachers with weight problems. I guess we have too much stress and develop bad habits.
  3. Amen! I used to like it, even the sugar-free kind. They brought it to me the 2nd day in the hospital and it was repulsive. Your taste buds really do change, it is the strangest thing.
  4. I am Day 5 and my plan says I can add Greek yogurt today, but I was scared because the full liquids plan says to only have liquids that pour off a spoon and Greek yogurt does not. So I just had 1 oz., and took 20 minutes of baby kitten licks to finish it. So far I feel ok, it went down smoother than some other things. I'm frustrated by conflicting information!
  5. Thank you, looking him up now!
  6. I'm only four days out. First three days it didn't bother me. Today it did so I had my pitiful chicken broth in another room as my husband ate his burger and fries. I could barely manage a few ounces of broth, so it's not like I could cheat even if I wanted to, but I just couldn't really handle seeing that food (this afternoon was the first time I felt hungry). I would have been ok eating a healthy salad or some plain grilled chicken as he chowed down but with liquids it's just sort of depressing. It's going to be a long couple of months until I can eat solid and satisfying food but you gotta do what you gotta do. My husband was supportive of me getting the surgery and didn't judge me for needing the surgery to lose the weight, so I feel lucky.
  7. I am 4 days out and I haven't gone in 5 days, which is to be expected when all you are consuming is a little bit of liquid. My belly hurts so badly from the surgery and while I'm taking Colace I'm worried about when I finally go it is going to really hurt me. Can you tear stitches like that? I'm trying not to take much painkillers because I know that makes the poop situation even worse. I'm terrified of throwing up too, I just started my chewable vitamins and I know those make a lot of people sick.
  8. I was sleeved on 11/8 and I'm having a real hard time with pain and with getting fluid and protein in, I'm not coming even close to my goals for protein. Those of you that were sleeved in early November, how has your progress been?
  9. Thanks! Even if it doesn't come in decaf that brand will come in handy in a month or two!
  10. Thanks! Do you know a brand of low acid decaf?
  11. Thanks! This sounds like a good idea. Can we add fruit to shakes? I imagine it would be ok unless it has small seeds like strawberries.
  12. The conflicting information is really frustrating. What the dietician says v. the materials they give you, then v. other sources of information. It doesn't make sense that some doctors allow yogurt at a certain time and others don't unless they are tailoring the rules for an individual patient. Its so arbitrary. Like, Doctor X says SF pudding is ok on full liquids but if you have the surgery with Doctor Y SF pudding is for the soft food stages. So annoying.
  13. Thanks for all the suggestions. I liked PP in coffee pre-op, but my stomach is so sensitive that I'm afraid to try something as acidic as coffee just yet, even though decaf is supposed to be ok. I'm going to try thinning out the PP with Fairlife milk as Fluffy suggested. Thanks, everyone.
  14. I thought I was prepared. I tried a bunch of shakes pre-surgery and found that Premier RTD was the most palatable, and almost good when mixed in coffee. All of the other shakes were gag inducing after one sip, and that was pre-op. Well, I moved from clears to full liquid yesterday and I nearly puked trying to choke down 2oz. of Premier...and I bought so many of them! I know it isn't a great option but this morning I used some Carnation Instant Breakfast (the sugar free kind) in the higher protein Fairlife milk and I was able to get down half (4oz.) because it was a lot less sweet. 4oz. of this combo has 9 grams of protein, which isn't a whole lot but I figured it was better than no protein at all. It took me 40 minutes to drink and that was with great effort and a lot of disturbing gurgling. Maybe I can add some unflavored whey to it to boost the protein. I knew to expect that tolerance for sweets would change (and that was part of the reason I wanted to get sleeved) but I was shocked that it happened immediately. Sugar free Jell-O, which I really liked before, is positively disgusting to me now. In an attempt to get rid of the dead raccoon taste in my mouth I took a sugar free mint and had to spit it out. This is a good thing, but not in the liquid phase when shakes are so important.
  15. I got sleeved on Thursday. Sugar free clears since Tuesday (only broth, SF jello and lots of water), no more than 200 calories each day. I advanced to full liquids today and was able to choke down about 2oz. of protein shake. Upon arriving home today I weighed myself and I was 3 lbs. heavier than I was on my surgery morning. I was urinating a lot so I didn't think I was retaining water but it has to be that. It certainly wasn't from excess calories. Is this typical?
  16. Thank you for the advice and best wishes! My surgery was uneventful actually, I think they are just cautious and backed up a bit. Fingers crossed for this afternoon!
  17. I got sleeved on Thursday morning. Broth and water since Tuesday, which is getting old and even those gross protein shakes seem appealing at this point! I miss my husband, visits to the hospital aren’t enough! I miss my dog too. I want to go home and not be hooked up to an IV and those annoying leg cuffs and have some uninterrupted sleep. I know, I know, I’m whining, and this was important to do, I’m just over the hospital experience.
  18. One more thing, for those being sleeved soon... when I woke up from the anesthesia I had a lot of chest pain from gas and I got really scared. That was actually what I said first, not it hurts but “I’m so scared!” I wasn’t prepared for feeling pain in my chest.
  19. Got sleeved on Thursday, hoping to be discharged today. I’ve been able to get a full glass of water in within an hour, but it’s really hard and I’m not getting enough fluids. I am on clear liquids only. So my meals have been about an ounce of broth, some water and a few times a bite of jello. The hospital jello is really disgusting, I buy sugar free Jell-O brand normally and it’s ok, I’m wondering if this is a taste bud change or if their brand of jello is just awful. I still have both had pain (chest, abdomen, upper back) pain and belly pain. I had single insicion laparoscopic through my belly button. Walking isn’t hard and I’m wandering around the floor with my IV but getting up from a reclining position hurts really bad. They are moving me from IV meds to pills, I had to break each Percocet into 4 pieces last night and I felt like one of them was stuck for a good while. I’m full of bruises from the blood thinner shots. I’m want to go home so badly but I’m also afraid to go home, if that makes sense. I’m still kind of in schock that I finally did it. I’m hungry, but not nearly as hungry as I thought I would be considering I’ve had only broth and water since Tuesday.
  20. Not long now, just waiting to be prepped! Good luck to you, and everyone getting surgery today.
  21. I just signed all the papers and I’m waiting the be prepped. I so desperately hope that this surgery gives me a tool to help me control my overeating. I don’t expect to be skinny, I just want to be in control of food instead of feeling like it controls me. I’ve never had any kind of surgery and I’m scared of the anesthesia nd the pain but I’m trying to look at this logically instead of emotionally. 20lbs down pre-op, 80-90 to go. Here goes nothing!
  22. Exactly. Most patients would assume that their doctor would give them necessary care and pin relief.
  23. Is your hunger satisfied by eating according to plan, or do you just never feel satisfied anymore?
  24. They say that you regret the things you don't do more than the stuff you do. I'm 44 and have been overweight my whole adult life and dangerously obese for almost 20 years. It's time.
