Meetups do have volunteer groups [emoji6] [emoji2] I met a guy here in NC, who was from my hometown in NY and was best friends with my neighbors when I was 5 years old. We always had a good time reminiscing about those days. Haha.
  2. My plan is very similar to what I posted, but since their publishing, even their plan had been modified. I was allowed Gatorade zero, powerade zero and not mentioned, I've been a fan of sqwinchers zero. It's always important to follow your plan and follow up with your team.
  3. I'm not in PA, but I can tell you that it took almost a solid 30-days for the final approval to come from the insurance company and we do use Aetna. When I called the Dr's office 2 - 3 weeks in, they said Aetna takes 30-days. Once they approved, I had my surgery scheduled within 2 weeks.
  4. Sorry for the rough start, I swear it gets better and the surgery day will be an after thought. Just remember to stay on course with meeting your protein / fluid goals. and don't forget to walk, walk, walk.
  5. I recently tried RawRev Glo - Creamy Peanut butter and sea salt Protein / Fiber Bars (15g protein / 14g Fiber, 2g Sugar, 3 Net Carbs) - It's super filling and compact, easy to keep in bags, etc. Mozzarella Cheese sticks - 60cal - 7gr protein Tender Beef Jerky in 0.625 oz bags, again small and compact easy to keep in bags single serve Cottage cheese - I've become a huge fan of cottage cheese since WLS Matt Z mentioned Kay's protein snacks, they are pretty awesome and easy to use for 2 snacks if needed. I also make hard boiled eggs to travel with to work each week, I have an egg maker which takes roughly 12min total, no hassle, perfect cooking every time and then easy to travel with.
  6. I just saw my Surgeon's PA and she only stated that right now I should be focused on my protein and water intake. I told her I was concerned about my carbs (30-40 Net) per day and she asked me where they were coming from. When I responded with Cottage Cheese, Beans, Nuts, etc... she asked if pasta, potatoes (white and sweet), rice were in that mix and I responded with no. I'm only eating non-starchy foods. She stated that's all that mattered. Stay away from starches and focus on Protein and water. Your goal is to work up to 90g of Protein per day and as @Matt Z said get upwards of 128 oz of water a day. In this early stage, stay focused on the 60g protein and more than 64oz of water. You will work up to increasing your portion sizes as your belly lets you. Listen to it. Chances are (and from what it looks like) you are still at a 1/4 cup per serving.
  7. I would first refer to your plan as set forth by your Surgeon and NUT.... But many plans are as follows with some variations based on individual surgeons CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY Make sure all items listed below are sugar free. Water Broth Jell-O Decaf tea Decaf coffee Sugar free Popsicles Sugar free drinks that are not carbonated You should avoid: Carbonated beverages Very sweet beverages Sugar Caffeine FULL LIQUID DIET WITH PROTEIN Your diet may include all items from week 1 plus: Protein powder mixed with a sugar free non-carbonated clear liquid. Sugar free pudding. Soup with soft noodles. Non fat yogurt. Carnation instant breakfast. Look for the sugar free option. Very thin creamed soups. No chunks. Sugar free sorbet. Very watery hot oatmeal. Check the sugar content. Diluted no-sugar added juice. Sugar free, nonfat ice cream Thinned applesauce. Check sugar content

You're not. Seriously... if you don't try online dating. Check out the app called "Meetup" - It's NOT a dating site, it's really about finding like minded people in group settings. The hardest part no matter how you choose to proceed is getting out there.

Tinder is what you make of it. When I was on there I met more people looking for relationships than those looking for hookups (not saying that they didn't exist). But I had a lot of great dates from Tinder before I met my BF. We spoke for about 2 weeks (because of our schedules) before we met in person and dated for 2 months before we became exclusive. If I hadn't tried Tinder, I wouldn't have met the great guy I did. Who shares the same religious beliefs, morals and activities as I do.

I didn't use the service, For a $1000 +, I could think of better ways to use my money at the time. But basically they were going to do the "searching" for me based off my likes / dislikes. What my hobbies were. Based on the cost, I wasn't willing to put my trust in a company to "find" me a suitor. Hence I went to online dating... had a few rocky years but was pretty much always dating and then 3 years ago, I tried Tinder and met my current love.

I can tell you here in Charlotte, NC - a matchmaker service was well over $1000.
  12. I had the same thing and when I asked my surgical team about it, they said keep on eye on it, if it lasts longer than "normal" they will check. It was gone in less than a week.

I hate to say this but online dating is the easiest way to get back in the dating pool. It will help you regain that dating confidence. I met my bf on Tinder, we've been together almost 3 years. Some people think it's a hook up site, but I think it's what you make of it and how you use it. Being in NYC, I'm sure there are a ton of groups where you can meet people face to face. I used an app called "meetup" and it was for various meetup groups, like singles for dinner, or sports clubs, etc. I met a lot of great people that way (of all age groups). Go have fun! You deserve it!
  14. I love their syntrax brand and the coffee/latte/mocha flavors are hands down my favorite while I'm on a caffeine restriction.
  15. I have a misfit phase and ray for date nights and swimming. They are all water resistant, but don't want to get my leather strap wet. The ray I can wear on my wrist, ankle or necklace. Downside they really only provide progress and reminders not heart rate.
  16. I agree with@crankymagpie, you need to decide what features you want. I have a garmin, misfit and 2 samsung gears. My favorite is the misfit, it syncs and looks like a real watch with the analog face. But when I volunteer I like my samsung because of the other app features. Research them, compare reviews and find one that works for you.
  17. The object of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. The smaller your liver is during surgery the less surgical complications can arise. You don't want the Dr nicking your liver while cutting in to you? As for sabotaging, I guess it depends on what you're eating. Additionally, your intestines and colon need to be "clean" for the surgery. The last thing you want is bacteria oozing out if there is an accidental nicking. You have a little over a week to go, follow your plan - now is the time to start your new healthy habits.
  18. If you're still concerned, contact your medical team. But my guess is it's probably all normal. Just keep walking, getting your proteins and water in.
  19. My suggestion to you is to read and research as much as you can online. Find a bariatric center in your area with a reputable surgeon and speak to them. For me personally, I did my research for about 2 months online before I ever consulted a physician. When I did, I knew what questions I wanted to ask and didn't go in there with the mindset that I would have surgery, I wanted the guided non surgical weight loss, but I did go through the process as if I was going for WLS so that when the time came to make a decision everything would be done no matter what I decided. Ultimately I opted for WLS because the diet and exercise weren't enough and my medical conditions were stacked against me. This is your journey, research and ask questions...Only you can decide if this is the right decision for you
  20. Yes, my first stall came at the end of my 2 weeks post op and lasted about 2 weeks, I came out of it and now right back in it. Just follow your plan and trust the process. Remember you didn't gain the weight overnight, we won't lose it overnight. Be patient, it will come off.
  21. I did not solve my head hunger prior to WLS. It wasn't until after that I finally understood the difference. And sometimes even now I need reminding. The most important thing to remember is to drink, drink, drink. The more fluids you consume the less hungry you are.
  22. My dietitian / NUT prior to WLS kept telling me I wasn't eating enough carbs (I haven't seen her yet post WLS, appoint in Dec). And I've been on a yo-yo the last two weeks with weightloss / gain. I have a follow up today with my surgical team and will mention this, but where I was going with this was.... I could distinctly tell pre WLS and now post WLS that if I consume more than 30 Net Carbs per day I will NOT lose weight. I will maintain or gain weight. So my question becomes - How can you be successful going against the NUT when you clearly know what your body is doing and how it's reacting to carbs? I'll let you know what the surgical team says. But at least this time I have it well documented in MFP how the carbs are affecting my weightloss. @Kaseyn2boys - I think you have to find the right "recipe" for you. Remember, no two people are alike and this journey while we have lots of support (from the web and externally), it's our individual journey and we have to find what's right for us. It may require you pushing back to your dietitian but tell her what happens and start tracking for yourself what happens when you increase carbs, decrease carbs, etc... listen to your body. No one knows it better than you.
  23. I've noticed this several times over the years of traveling. I somehow manage to lose weight much easier when I'm overseas. Over the last few years, I've visited Eastern Europe and Greece several times and on each trip I lose anywhere from 5 - 10lbs. I'm not doing anything I wouldn't be doing in the US, but I am eating more forbidden foods on my travels and still manage to lose weight. There is definitely something to be said about the processed foods that are found in the US. While in Hungary on two separate occasions this past summer I lost 5lbs each visit and ate bread with nearly every meal, had dessert of ice cream or another sweet and ate the things I would avoid at home. Even when we ate out, I didn't walk away with that bloated feeling as I do here. As soon as I got on the plane and headed back to the US, the bloats came back and I was in misery all over again. Unless you are able to eat "clean" in the US, I really feel like it's much harder to remain healthy here. And for many people, they can't afford to eat clean.
  24. you can wear jeans, but I doubt you will be comfortable. Honestly I would just wear something comfortable. I don't know how long your flight is, but honestly the last thing you want is to be on a plane with restricting clothes. I would also make sure you pack a bottle to keep full with water. You will definitely want to drink as much water as possible (even though your body will resist) this will help prevent blood clots.
