I keep retaining Fluid, but like most I weigh myself daily. I only change my ticker if my weight goes down. If it goes back up, I just wait it out until it less than it was again. Maybe that is cheating, but we really are not supposed to weigh ourselves everyday and everyone's weight fluctuates. I do hope the edema resolves itself soon though. My heart is good and they don't know why I am retaining fluid other than the trauma of surgery. Surgery was 4 weeks ago...

    Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and had my surgery on June 11. My surgeon is Dr. Anton Cheng. I found this forum yesterday and can't wait to share my journey.
I didn't do any pre-op diet, my surgeon didn't see it as necessary. I fasted 10hrs before surgery though (no food and drink).
I was discharged from the hospital on June 13. I must say, I had to force myself sipping Water or my surgeon wouldn't let me go home. I had tough time sipping liquids when I was at the hospital, the feeling was super uncomfortable. Ice chips was my best buddy and nurses were great in fulfilling my requests but surgeon said I must sip water haha.
I was sore (the incisions) after the surgery and was on IV drip pain killer on the 1st day. I started walking slowly few hours after surgery ( as instructed by surgeon) and even had a normal shower the next morning (with nurse waiting on the other side of the shower curtain of course). I was on "fall prevention", I must be accompanied at all times if I'm m not in my bed.
No painkillers anymore after Day 2, I was still sore especially on my left side but it was bearable.
Home few days now and diligently looking into my diet ( well, my beloved aunt is doing all the work actually). I'm on my 6 day post op today. I was already on full liquid diet on my day 3, as instructed by my dietitian. She didn't want me to continue with clear liquid diet once discharged from hospital. I have been given sample meal plans and that makes it a little easier on my side.
Day 3, I had low fat sugar free yoghurt, sugar free vanilla ice cream, home made chicken Soup(strained) and Protein Shakes.
Day 4, I had chicken and mushroom Soup for me and added some cream in it (strained it of course).
Day 5, I had potato and beef soup. My aunt pureed it until it turned into a delicious thick soup ( like applesauce texture).
I'm sticking to my yoghurt, Protein shakes and ice cream still but adding new item to my diet each day. This really helps me not to feel frustrated with my liquid diet. Plus, I'm a savoury person, I do not enjoy sweet things.
My aunt has been a tremendous help in preparing my meals and my greatest support. Today, she is cooking chicken and egg soup and almond milk Jello for me.
My 1st post op appointment with my surgeon and dietitian is on June 26. By then, my dietitian is hoping that I have started with scrambled eggs.
Lastly, I'm not on any pain meds since discharged. I was borderline diabetic pre-op (no medication) and my glucose reading has been great since post op. I weighed 244 on surgery day and today, I weigh 224. :-)

It sounds off-putting, reading most of the forums honestly is off-putting, how does one even start to manoeuver through the swamp of disparaging topics with obvious solutions at best or unsolicited snarky advice at worse?
Yes a lot of us are at different stages in our journeys, most of us probably want to use our walking stick to wack some sense into someone else's skull but that is beside the point.
I didn't join this form for a wine fest, I joined for support.
I'll be damned if I'm going to be a 'keyboard warrior' stick hitting or an emotional punching bag for someone's idea of a grand get off.
I choose kindness, I choose to stick up for those other's will not. I choose loving myself where I am at now. With God's help, and a lot of locals here support I'll make it fine.
My name's Hannah J Capps, don't mind me much I love singing playing guitar and being my own self-advocate but also asking for help when I need it.
Mom has and always will be my biggest human support. I become lonely quite often, I have trouble voicing what is in my voice.
I was bullied online before it became chic. I was verbally hazed before it became an epidemic right alongside the opiate overdose epidemic and the rising suicide epidemic.
I'm sure self-mutilation is on the rise more so then when I last check the CDC statistic.
I'm coming to slowly know that a group of opinionated people who really just wish to dump and not help clean up afterward is what this forum is made of.
The few that are good-hearted, who take time to listen (or in this case read the text) are a rare thing. I've been beaten up too much socially to stick out my neck again.
I'm a turtle 'is it OK?' nope. In I go. But I offer my meager kindness, for those who wish may partake. Enjoy your weekend.

Of course, i'm still "overweight" according to my insurance guy....but I'm not "obese" anymore...and definitely not "morbidly obese" like I was at this time last year.
So yeah..."Overweight" sounds pretty darned fantastic to me:)
Today I broke my doctor's goal for my weight.... which is 172-178 pounds:) My body fat is right around 30% according to the underwater scale and metabolic analysis....which is generally considered Healthy/Acceptable for women.
My personal goal is 170, and I'm looking forward to popping my calories up a bit to maintain after I hit that goal. More good carbs! More fruits and whole grains!
Have been crazy busy, but life is good:) Still loving my forever diet and not feeling deprived of anything. Getting exercise in is not hard with 11 year old neicey running us around to the zoo, forest, alligator farm, natural history museum, aviation/space museum etc....and needing a swimming buddy.
Have been cooking healthy for guests, and they seem to be enjoying it:) Had a couple nights of junk for the kids on the grill, or pizza. I just throw some salmon on there and have some avacado and cukes and other veggies and call it good. Grilled salmon with balsamic glaze is my new go-to favorite.

So I have been fairly quiet on the message board but I have learned a lot by reading all of the different posts here.
so today was the day, I'm in my room now following my Sleeve surgery and I couldn't be happier, a new chapter has stared in my life!
my story starts back in September of 2017 where I had some bad liver results in my blood work, so we followed up with three month follow up and my numbers had tripled from the bad results that they already were at and prompted a comment from my GP that changed my life. She told me that if I continued on the trend I was doing that within 12 to 18 months I would be looking at a liver transplant in worse. It was my wake up call. for 15 years I had been promising I would get back into shape after being a state level rugby player in high school and earning my second degree black belt in taekwondo, I had certainly let myself slide.
On Jan 15th I weighed in at 305.6 lbs with a BMI of 44.5. I worked my butt of, literally, and today I weighed in for surgery at 230.0 lbs! And I feel great, coaching rugby again, even runnng with the kids I coach, running!
So now the second phase begins, my ideal weight I'm told is 154 so my goal is 160/165 so that when I get the little rebound I can level out at about 175/180.
so sleeve is complete, fixed a hiatal hernia and I'm up walking, downing my Water, all is well in my world right now and the future is looking bright. I have already stopped my diabetes Meds, stopped my cholesterol meds and looks like I'm going to go home with no blood pressure meds after cutting the dose in half already. So thankful for my wake up call and then the opportunity to get this done!

You know what surprised me? How difficult it would be to get in enough Water. My advice? Put your credit card away. Turn from focusing on the external to focusing on the internal. Prepare yourself to work on getting in enough water after surgery.
Good luck. You are not alone.
