  1. Thanks to all of you for your reply. It is helpful to know people who used Dr. Black and were happy with the results. Did ya'll have alot of pain afterwards? I'm nervous about the healing process. He is a very confident Dr. and always makes me feel at ease when I talk to him. I know he is good at his job. My fear is... Is my body going to be good at this?
  2. Anyone use Dr. Clifton Black in Anniston? I've met with him, and had an upper GI for hernia/ reflux problems. I really like him as a gastro dr. I was wandering if anyone used him for lap band, and what the experience was like for you.
  3. I had the same symptoms with a hernia. Good luck
  4. I have a hernia, so I'm going to tell everyone that I'm having hernia repair surgery. Alot of people have them repaired during lap band. If you are comforatable with a fib, that will work. Seems to have the same recovery time, and will explain your "new" diet.
  5. Ok, so it would be easy to give you the "everything will be fine spill" but the fact is that anytime you have surgery there will be risk involved. HOWEVER, living obese is higher risk than surgery. Keeping on the weight for years will increase your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, even stroke. All which could result in surgery. You are doing the right thing for your health, and your family. You have made a decision to take control of your future, and you should be proud of yourself. Take pride in your bravery, and "trust" that everything will be fine. I will say a prayer for you today, and keep you in my thoughts. Good Luck!!!
  6. Maybe they don't know if you want to talk about it. I would bring it up, and see how they react. As for the cookies? I can't understand why anyone would flaunt food in front of you, but she might think that not offering one to you will help you avoid the temptation. Does she usually offer "goodies" to co-workers, or is this out of the norm for her? People can act very strange when they feel threatend. I would be willing to bet that she feels that her new (thin) friend (you) won't have room for her in your new life. Good luck. I hope that ya'll work through it. I'm sure that insecurity is playing a big role in their attitue, and actions toward you.
  7. I am in the same boat as you. BCBS Peehip. BMI also 38, and I'm 37 years old. Your post is like reading my own story. I have considered gaining a few pounds, but like you, my past weight was lower, and I'm required to complete a 7 month physican assisted wl program. If I lost weight that would put me back below the required 40 bmi. I do not have other health issues. I am also worried about poblems, and payment by insurance if they occur. I have been told by a receptionist at the Dr. office that if the procedure needed removed (life threatening) they would pay.
  8. That is exactly why I've decided not to share this with any of my friends. Once I've had the surgery (this summer), and I feel confident with myself and my success, I'll let only my close friends know. I hope that I'm more energetic, and healthy, and that they will agree with the outcome of the surgery. They will see the positive impact it has had on my health and life, and who can argue with results?
