3 fills, no restriction
I'm so with you!! I was banded on June 23rd. I've had 3 fills and only lost about 16lbs. My doc is not concerned either, but I feel your frustrations. If this were any other diet, I would have thrown in the towel by now. I want it to work! If I could do this by myself I would not have gotten the band, and right now I feel like I've lost the 16lbs with my own willpower, not the band. I've restricted my intake, etc.. but as always I'm not able to keep it. I'm at the point of regret, and feel like I've wasted my time, and money. I feel like I'm failing at this too. I just hope that the next fill gives me a little more control. Hang in there, unfortunately there are many of us in this situation. It will get better, and easier as we find our "sweet spot", and learn to work with our band.

heart palpitations anyone?
I had the same problem. I attribute it to fewer calories, and cutting out caffine. I was an avid soda drinker. My doc did check me out, which I would also advise. It took about 8-10 weeks for it to completely go away. I thought I was going nuts. I will tell you that I have experienced heart problems, and the feeling is quite different. My chest felt like an elephant was sitting on it when it was my heart, this was more like a racing feeling that was accompanied by a very nervous feeling. As the others have stated, check it out. If it's not your heart, it may take a while to subside. Good Luck, Kami

Are We Ready For A Woman VP?
I am so sick of this pro-life pro-abortion crap! Why are we still fighting this battle? Of course women have the right to choose. They have the right to choose not to have sex, or use birth control if they are. It is a human life we are talking about! NO one is suggesting that women who suffer from rape (which can avoid pregnancy with a DNC) or incest should not have the right to an abortion, but to just be able to kill an innocent life because you were not adult enough to prevent it is just absurd. Grow up, or keep your legs shut. That is my opinion. To answer the question, are we ready for a female vp- YES! Are we ready for this one, Absolutly!

Why did my cholesterol level go up?
Are you eating alot of meat? Cholesterol is found in meat, meat by products, dairy, and eggs. If you are eating more of these foods it could increase your numbers. Increase your fiber, and it will help drop the numbers for you. As you lose weight it should balance out. Good luck, and Congratulations on your band.

Trying to stay positive
I'm with ya. I was banded on June 23rd. I've only lost 12 lbs. The day of surgery I weighed 234.6 lbs. Today I weigh 222.4. I've been at this weight since about the 2nd week after surgery. Ive gained and lost 2 pounds about 4 times. I also walk most every day. Only difference is I'm on solids now. I have NO restriction, I can eat anything, and as much as I could before surgery. I just hope that as I get fills, the restirction will help kick up the weight loss. I am now on a "diet" to keep from gaining. Hang in there. I'm sure it will pick up for both of us.

what the ?????!!!!!!!
Hey Clair: We have the same band birthday. I was also banded on June 23rd. I've only lost 12 1/2 lbs, and 10 of that was in the first couple of weeks. I have had a fill, I got it on July 23rd, and honestly it has not helped much. My doc does not have the same "rules" as yours. Is it because of the pcos, or just his rule? My doc won't do a fill early. One a month and only 1-2 cc's at time. He said that doing too fast causes problems later. He wants me to "adjust" my lifestyle slowly, and bond with the band. Even if I have to diet, which I AM. I understand your frustration with the weight loss. I also waited FOREVER to have it done, and wanted to be like the others on this site who lost 20-30 lbs the first couple of months. I guess we are truly all different. Good luck. I hope it gets better for us as we get fills.

Worried/Confused/Need to Understand
Aww, I could just hug you. Let me ask you one question. What if nothing bad happens, and she ends up exactly like she wants to be? There are no guarantees in life. She could have had a number of problems with the operations that you described, but she did'nt. Sometimes you have to make choices based on faith alone. I prayed about the surgery for months, and when I finally got a surgery date, I was still a maniac. But, I'm so glad I did it. I'm ony 7 weeks out, but my mindset is already focused, and positive. I've not bought clothes for next season, because I KNOW that I won't need them. That is a GREAT feeling. One I'm sure your wife dreams of. Good luck to you both.

quesyion about fills need advice!!!
My doc did not use a scope. I'll explain what he did to me, it might help you feel better. 1st he poked around on my tummy, then he had me do a mini crunch. (yep, like a sit up) then the inserted the needle. It did not hurt. It was a small stick, just like a regular injection. Once the needle was in, NO PAIN. It took less than 5 minutes total. He had told me before the fill that I might have to reschedule if he could not find it because I have extra adipose tissue. BUT, no trouble at all. Good luck. I was so nervous before mine. Hope this helps!

Anxiety AFTER surgery?
YES!!! I know exactly how you feel. About 2 weeks after surgery I started having these "fluttering feelings" in my chest that were leading to anxiety, and I was really grumpy. I went on chat, and after talking to several different people, I realized that my body is adjusting to less sugar, less caffine, less food, and recovering from surgery. It is getting better every day. Hang in there. If it does not get better, mention it to your doctor. He might give you something to settle your nerves until your body adjust. Good luck!

Has anyone seen your scars & asked?
First, get a tube of Mederma- It will help fade the scar. However, make sure you keep sunscreen on them when you are "shirtless" the sun will cause the scars to become more noticable. Once they have faded you should be able to get a tan, which will help hide them. Also, I had a hernia repaired at the time of my lap band. My doc said that the inscisions were the same, except I would need an extra one for the hernia. You could always use that excuse.

Confidence Killer
You should have given her the "So I am fat, but you are UGLY, and I'm loosing weight." What are you gonna do? Plastic surgery? By the way, I'm just kidding. You can't fight fire with fire. Simply put she is a child. One who apparently did not have parents who raised her to be respectful to others. You really should focus on your success, not only in the weight loss, but in your parenting skills. Take pride and confidence in knowing that your child will never make another person feel that way, and he will not be the cause of someone else loathing themselves. You are doing great! Be proud of yourself. And, think about it, you might get the opportunity to see potty mouth after you have reached your goal. Maybe then you will be able to hold your head up, and let her EAT HER WORDS!!

Eating right before a fill???
My docs rule is no food 2 hours before. But as stated, all doctors are different. I was not on liquids after. Went out to dinner with my family, but I did take it easy. Good luck!!

Okay Seriously how much do you eat?
I'm with you. I can eat way more than 1/4 cup. However, I am still a band baby. (June 23rd), and I have not had my first fill. I hope that will help kick start my weight loss, and help with appetite and portion control.

Gas and chest pain
WALK, WALK, WALK. It really is the only thing that will help. I know you don't feel like it. My gas pain was pretty bad too, and I did not want to move, let alone walk, but the more you move the better it will be. A couple of other things that helped me. Use a heating pad, and have someone massage your back and shoulders. Also, my husband would "pat" my back, like burping a baby. All seemed to help, but the walking did more good than anything. Good luck, and Congratulatons. Every day is a little better.

To Cut or Not To Cut
If you are going to get more than 10" cut from your hair, consider donating it to locks of love, or the panteen program. (they make wigs for cancer patients) It might help you feel better about your new style if you know that you have helped somene else.

post op nausea
Are you eating enough? Is your sugar or iron getting too low? Sounds to me like you need nutrients. I get like that when my sugar is low. Does it improve after you eat? I have not gotten nauseated, but very weak and sick feeling. I've had to stop getting ready a couple of times, and lay down. It usually clears up when I eat or drink something. Hope this helps. Good luck! Banded on June 24th

I Had A Cupcake :-(
I'm only a week out but, I agree with everyone else. How many times have you had a cup cake on a diet? The question is, will you stop at one. I remember times at my job when donuts would be available. I would eat one about every time I entered the conf. room. So I say this was a successful day. You ate ONE cupcake, not a whole cake. Congratulations!!

I can't feel my port
Gosh, I hope not. I'm only 5 days out, and I can't feel mine.

Banded June 23
I was banded on the 23rd also, with a hernia repair. I'm like you. I don't feel that hungry, but my body seems to be getting weak from lack of food. It would really like something to eat. Soup, and protein drinks are not getting it. Truly the gas is the worst part. I've been walking on the treadmill (very slow 1.5 mph) for 10-15 min every afternoon, when the gas is the worst. It seems to help, and, makes me sleep better. The heating pad, and walking seem to help more than anything. However, I have found that a ride in the car seems to help. I'm like a colicy baby. I'll start burping about a mile down the road. :tt2:

I'm keeping it quiet, but I'm a terrible liar!
I am having a hernia repair, and from what I've read, and been told a lot of people have them fixed during surgery. Most surgeons won't implant the band witout fixing it. Anyway, to answer your question. I'm telling people I'm having a hernia repaird. And the above answer is correct. Even the scars are the same, except with a hernia you have an extra one. Good luck! By the way, gallbladder surgery is similar too

Bumble Bree- I get your respnses on my e-mail through lap band. I don't know how or why. I tried to "reply" to you but it was returned stating no reply available at lap band. I would love to keep in touch, and I hope you will let me know how it went for you. Good luck Tuesday. And, for me the emotions are truning from fear to excitement. I realized it takes alot of courage to do what we are doing. We are walking into the unknown with faith that we will succeed. Good luck again, and keep me posted. Where do you live?

NSV - Must we be honest with strangers :0)
I put 130 on mine when I turned 16. It still has 130 on it. I'm 230. LOL. I'll NOT change it. I've got a while before I renew them, and I'm anxious to see if I'm at my goal!

Yes ma it helps. Any advice is helpful. Today I'm much better the fear is starting to diminish. I've trusted the Lord to point me in a direction, and this is where he led. If this is what he wants for me, I'll sail through it. By your faith you are healed. Right?

I'm from Alabama. I went for my pre admission for the hospital today, and paid my part of the lap band. I felt pretty good at the hopital. Talking to the nurses, doctors etc.... Then on the way home, I went into panic mode. This is scaring me to death. I don't know why, or where the emotions are coming from. I was SO certain about my decision. I've been researching this for over a year. I've been thrilled at the thought of NOT buying clothes lately (on sale) because I know that this will be the last season of my life that I will be in the "plus" sizes. By next summer I should be in the regular misses dept. So why the fear? I guess anytime we go into the unknown it will be un nerving. I'm worried about: recovery, two weeks without food, following the rules, complications, 5 years down the road. All unknown! I'm certain that every bandster has gone throught the same emotions. I just hope that we both have a VERY Happy Banding Birthday. I look forward to hearing from you. I will keep you in my prayers, please do the same for me. Good luck. I will have to stay overnight in the hospital because of the hernia. I will try to email you on Thursday to let you know how it went. Good Luck.

Hey Bumble Bree- We will have the same banding birthday. "If" I don't chicken out. I'm starting to get super nervous, and doubt my decision. How are you feeling?
