Also, you can freeze Protein Shakes as ice cubes. I added banana to my vanilla and 2 cubes were better than any ice cream bar. Beat the heck out of it to make it smoothe. Sometimes use milk instead of Water for rich taste.

I hope you are feeling better soon and you get home to your boys. I myself had zero complications and my pain was minimal and managed well while in the hospital but one of the men in my local group who had surgery around the same time as me had a really rough go. He had a leak and ended up on life support in the ICU for a while and had repeat surgeries. It was touch and go for a while but he is now almost a year out and has no regrets. He comes to support groups to tell his story to and let people know that even in the darkest moments there is sunshine. He said that his weight would have killed him if he didn't take control and now hes healthier than ever.

I too am so sorry. It was rough a little after surgery for me but nothing like what you describe. My pain meds and walking took care of it. And now 5 months out I feel it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I hope to Gd that soon you feel that way. I have total Portion Control, still losing, so much more energy, I feel my body is so light and I never want to sit down, love being active. Getting compliments. Only negative: I’m colder now! I’m complaining when it’s cold like those skinny people always do! My internal sweater is shrinking. Feel better soon.

Everyone's journey is different. I've had no issues with pain. I took their pain meds for the first night, was taking down my 4 ounces an hour so I was released the next day. I then took Tylenol only 3 times over the next few days. Has it been hard to drink enough daily? Yes. But it's because I'm not feeling hungry or thirsty. I'm no longer having issues with nausea. If this is something you really want for yourself then there will be challenges but there will also be amazing changes!

Best of luck no matter which path you take.

Great job! I can see a big difference! Don’t be sad eating less, especially if you are satisfied with the smaller amount. You will be even more satisfied with your new, smaller sizes! Hang in there, it’s worth it! You look great! Keep us updated!

Just wanted to share my first progress pictures. Some days the weight loss seems so slow and I am still dealing with some sadness of only eating small meals..but when I see the difference it’s made I am exited. SW: 240, CW: 195, GW: 145.

I didn't speed it up - it was fairly slow-going all the way. The thing is, after the first six months or so, it's pretty much slow-going for everyone, so after that point, we were all pretty much in the same boat. I just stuck to the plan, that's all. It came off slowly but surely. I almost never went off my plan - I suspect I was more compliant than a lot of others in my group, so I had great success with it (losing 100% of my excess weight). And yes - I did have two or three major stalls along the way (some people have more than that). My first one lasted two weeks (it was weeks 2 & 3 post-surgery. My weight loss started up again week 4 post-surgery - I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days, then the "slowly but surely" thing started up again). I don't remember how long the other stalls lasted - maybe 2-4 weeks? I remember thinking during those times that this was it, I wasn't going to lose anymore, but then....it would start up again.

I did work out (still do), but I'm not a gym rat. I mostly went to Water aerobics a couple times a week and yoga a couple times a week. A lot of it was weighing & measuring my food, tracking, weighing myself several times a week, and not going off plan. I was determined to lose as much as humanly possible!!

my starting weight was 373 lbs and yes, I was a slow loser. I was behind my cohort for at least the first six months (although I think I ultimately blew all of them out of the Water - I was *very* compliant and lost 100% of my excess weight)

you lost it faster than I did. #1 rule with this - do NOT compare yourself to others. Rate of weight loss can vary tremendously depending on a number of factors - age, gender, starting weight, genetics, metabolism rate, whether or not you lost a lot of weight pre-surgery, etc. Stick to your plan and the weight will come off.

You lost 51 lbs in four months? That's great! Congratulations!
You didn't gain all your weight overnight so you're not going to lose it all overnight either.
Good luck! You are not alone!

Ok. Dr said I was rushing food. Back to liquids and puréed foods for me. Yuck! My stomach isn’t ready for the food yet.

I too was told to walk walk walk. However I injured my back two weeks after surgery and have not been able to. I find the slower I eat the better I feel. If I have any gas pain, I chew A Gas-X and it goes away quickly. I'm a month out now and I don't have the gas as much as I did. I have developed better habits as far as eating slower and very very small bites that I chew a lot. Also I had severe Constipation from the pain medication due to my back. This really was difficult. But I'm past that now no more pain meds. I'd rather have the back pain.

I am terrified to eat my first serving of Peanut Butter - that was one of my binge foods. I know, however, that I won't be able to eat much. My stomach gets full now. It didn't before surgery. I feel like my brain has been rewired by the surgery - that's a good thing

I am too afraid of a sugar dump so I'm not tempted right now to eat anything with sugar or even Pizza Crust. My only fear with this surgery was that people talked about how they threw up a lot. I couldn't even help my kids when they were little and throwing up I was right in there with them and it wasn't pretty. I have found substitutes for pizza crust and bread. I'm using cauliflower rice to make rice, grilled cheese sandwiches, and as a snack.

I'm honestly baffled by this. You ate a small portion of food, that in total probably had 300 calories in it. You are more than two months out and this doesn't sound like it represents any kind of overeating. Just because you are eating healthier doesn't mean that you are limited to only eating healthy things for the rest of your life. The goal is moderation which it sounds like you are doing, don't try to convince yourself that you did anything wrong or that you "cheated." You ate what you wanted and did it in a way that conformed to your weight loss goals, so congrats.

I would like to be Type A, a lot of us in the first flush are. But in most other things in life I'm--- B baby- all the way. So in Bariatrics i expect I'll be the same. Spent too much of my life beating myself up,mentally and emotionally and it gained,me,nothing except disgust and self-loathing. I realize now how counter-productive it is to hate yourself. So I'm learning day by day, I'm pretty cool, and quite worthy of love. And I'm going to reward myself with the Surgical renovations I need to live in this body.Like the flippable houses on HGTV I have "good bones" instead of hauling me off to the dump, I will tear my flawed drywall off, get down to the studs and rebuild myself out. Don't need to sell myself, indeed I don't have to even try to be marketable, I'll just stand firm on my foundation of healthy diet. and good lifestyle practices. And the winds of fattening fast food, sugary Snacks and missing meals will not prevail for I know me, I love me and from now on I'M STANDING STRONG!😛

People seem to fall into two camps on this one.
Camp A.....absolutely NEVER cheat! You're flirting with disaster! Tough love...you are going to throw your gift away and you will be sorry. Why would you work so hard to sabotage yourself? What were you thinking?
Camp B....if you can't prove you can set a limit, eat a sane amount of a treat and walk away, food still controls you. You haven't won. Life is about compromise. You should allow yourself to enjoy treats once in a while within reason.
I think there's some wisdom in both of these ideas.
You want to be really careful with foods that can trigger reckless eating. You want it to be your idea to indulge...and not let the food or food situation control you. Too much indulgence can be a slippery slope.
But fundamentally...I'm a Camp B person. I don't usually get my own desert, but I will pretty regularly take a bite or two of my husband's. I eat a truck ton of carbs....but they're not white anymore...everything is whole grain and low glycemic. I let myself have treats, but I try to put thought into it, plan for it...and not do it on impulse anymore.
I try to live with balance. It's tough. Sometimes you fall off the beam. LOL. Just keep getting back on. If you notice a pattern where you are out of control...address it.
Awesome idea to see the therapist for extra examination of this issue:)
